Welcome to Minecraft You'll Never Leave...
Chapter 23
I paced around impatiently as I tried to pass the time.
"How long does it take to rewire a teleporter?" I mumbled.
"Wait, so if Annika is rewiring that teleporter, why are we going to do that?" Log asked.
"Because we have to find Adam, Ty, Mitch, Alesa, and Seto." I said.
"But what good will it do us if we don't have any idea where they are?" I sat down.
"You're right." I replied, then went to go find Anika.
"Anika?" I called.
"Yeah?" She replied, looking up from the little device on her table.
"We don't need that." She looked back down at it.
"I was wondering when you'd say that."
"What do you mean?"
"I haven't been working on it." She pulled a laptop off her desk. "I'm currently trying to find Jocelain's recent locations." I stifled a laugh. "What?"
"Your rival's name is Jocelain?"
"Yes, it there a problem?"
"No." I cleared my throat. "Anyway, did you find her location?"
"Yeah, she was last seen in New York about a day ago."
"Then what are we waiting for? We have to go to New York!"
"Hold on Tiger." Anika said. "I don't know where exactly in New York."
"New York is pretty big." I muttered.
"Exactly." Anika replied. "If we just start looking from corner to corner, we won't get anything done." She sat back down, if you and your friend wait a little longer I can get a good idea of where she is."
I walked out of the room, and back to where Log and I were sitting.
"What'd she say?" Log asked.
"Well, her rival Jocelain."
"Jocelain?"
"I said that too." I replied. "Jocelain was apparently last seen in New York."
"New York?"
"Yeah, I didn't believe it either, but Anika said if we give her a little while she can find out what part of New York."
"Alright then." Log said. "Looks like we're playing the waiting game."
"So we got the portal guns. Where do we go now?" Mitch asked.
"Well, we get out of here." I started climbing out of the murky water, but Mitch stayed put. "C'mon Mitch," I said, looking back.
"Is this all we do?" He replied.
"We solve puzzles." I said.
"That's it?"
"What else do you think we do?"
"Blow stuff up?"
"No, most of the time it's us who're blown up."
"This game sucks!"
"Then you can stay here." I went back to climbing, not looking back.
"Seto!" Mitch ran after me.
"I thought this game sucks?"
"Well, it does. I just don't want to be alone."
"Of course not." I said. "Lets just get going, we have a long way to go."
"About six hours right?"
"Yep, we better hurry."
"This is going to take forever."
"No it won't. It'll just take a little less than forever." I turned around to see Mitch giving me an unamused look. "What?"
"You're so funny."
"I know. It's my specialty." Mitch sighed.
"Anything else that you're good at?"
"I'm a puzzle master."
"Anything useful?"
"Besides the fact that this is a puzzle game? No, nothing at all." I shot a portal, and climbed through. Mitch followed my example, and I started walking up the broken down catwalk, then through an office. I finally found an orange portal, and shot it over beside the door.
I looked back at Mitch, and pretended to be annoyed.
"The least you could do is help me while the game is easy." I made sure I had a joking aspect to my voice, so he wouldn't think I was being a jerk.
"Just trying to learn the ropes of this." He said simply, then climbed into the portal, then went through the automatic door.
We both climbed into the elevator, and went down.
"This next test is very dangerous. To help you remain tranquil in the face of almost certain death, smooth jazz will be deployed in three. Two. One." The room was filled with jazz music, and Mitch started dancing.
"This is my jam!" The music player must have shorted out since the music started sounding distorted. "Nevermind." He said, then started looking around. "This doesn't look so dangerous." He stepped on a button, which opened a door. "There puzzle solved!" He got off of the button, and the door closed. "Nevermind." I watched the cube fall into a pit.
"We have to use that cube to get out of here."
"Cube? Is this like Minecraft?"
"Not really." I admitted. "This game just uses those cubes as weights."
"Wait, wait, wait! I can figure this out!" Mitch sounded excited. Okay, so we need to get the cube up here, but it's down there, so we should..." He shot a portal under the cube, and I watched it fall through.
Right on top of me.
"Ow..." I muttered, pushing the cube off of me.
"Are you okay Seto?" Mitch asked.
"I'm fine." I picked it up, and placed it on the button.
"I guess that pre-recorded voice was right about this being dangerous."
"Yeah, man, those cubes are heavy. It felt like I was just hit by a truck!"
"You sure you're going to be okay?"
"Yeah, this isn't nearly as bad was what's yet to come."
"That scared me a little bit." Mitch muttered.
"You'll be fine as long as you don't take the cake." Mitch gave me a confused look. "The cake is a lie."
"Of course it is."
We went through a few more testing chambers until we found Wheatly
"Hey Oi Oi! I'm up here! Oh brilliant! You did find a portal gun!" I shot my portal gun over to Wheatly, and started his dialogue of never being off the Management Rail. I tried to catch him, but failed.
"You're such a trustworthy person." Mitch said.
"So are you since you didn't catch him either." I put him on the stick coming from the wall, and rolled my eyes at the fact that he couldn't open up the secret passageway if someone was watching.
"Is he bashful or something?" Mitch asked.
"I don't know." I admitted, picking him up.
"Um... Let me get my bearings around here... Uh, just follow the rail actually."
"After freaking out about how he didn't have to use the rail?"
"Don't question it." I said. "He's Wheatly."
"I guess that makes sense."
"Exactly." We followed the rail until we came to a turret.
"Hello?"
"Oh no..." Wheatly groaned.
"Hello?"
"Yes, hello, we're not stopping."
"Excuse me?"
"Don't make eye contact whatever you do."
"Huh? What is that thing?"
"It's a turret. They become way more dangerous later in the game."
"Oh, okay." Mitch crouched under the beam while I just walked through it.
"It's not going to shoot you." I said.
"Oh," he stood up, and matched my stride.
"Probably ought to bring you up to speed on something right now." Wheatly said. "In order to escape we're going to have to go through HER chamber."
"Her?"
"And she will probably kill us, if um, she's awake."
"Who's her?" Mitch asked.
"Glados." I said simply.
"Glados?"
"Yeah, she's supposed to be the villain."
"Supposed to be?"
"You'll see what I mean later in the game." We opened the chamber door, and saw the broken pieces of Glados. Mitch crouched down, and looked at her head.
"Hm... interesting." He mumbled.
I continued walking, until I found the gap in the stairs.
"We have to jump down?" Mitch asked, sounding nervous.
"Sh... Listen to Wheatly."
"You've got braces on your legs." I jumped, then looked up at Mitch to show him I was okay.
He jumped down, and landed beside me.
"Woo hoo! That was fun!" He was smiling. "Please tell me we do more of that!"
"And more."
"Awesome!" I walked across the catwalks until I found the control room. I plugged Wheatly in, and let him press the switches until the platform started moving.
"Why is the platform moving?!" Mitch asked, looking around frantically. "This isn't supposed to happen is it?"
"No, this is right." I said, finally arriving in front of Glados.
"Wait, she's being put back together!" Mitch said, his eyes full of fear.
"Just relax."
Glados was finally assembled, then grabbed me. Mitch latched onto my leg, and looked down at the distance between us and the ground.
"Seto!" He said.
"Just relax, we're going to be fine." She crushed Wheatly, then sent down into the incinerator.
"Setooo!"
