2: King's Cross Station
Scorpius's POV
"But father, it was hilarious, the looks on their faces. Priceless," I laugh. He looks at me sternly. He seems to have softened up to the Potters and the Weasley-bees.
"You need to stop!" Dad yells.
"But Da-!" I start.
"Scorpius Goyle Malfoy, you will stop this NOW, it's gotten out of hand. People could've gotten hurt. You practically assaulted an aruarers child!" My father commands, looking me in the eye with an authoritative look.
"Yes sir," I mummble.
"Hurry up and finish packing your things or we will be late to King's Cross Station!" Mum calls from downstairs.
Rose's POV
Dad drives his muggle car to Kings Cross. Harry, Ginny and my cousins are behind us in another car.
We arrive at Kings Cross, with thirty minutes to go. Hugo and I pull our things onto trolleys and wheel them to the front door. Lily stands at my side now, as we run through the building looking for platforms 9 and 10, so that we can arrive at platform 9 and 3/4. The pillar appears in my peripheral vision when I turn around to face Mum and Dad.
Making sure no one is looking, one by one we run into the dividing barrier. Platform 9 and 3/4 is filled with wizards running about, pushing trolleys and joining friends.
"Rose!" I hear an excited yell from in front of me. Luna and Dean Longbottom run towards me and tackle me with a hug.
"Luna, Dean!" I hug them back. "It's so good to see you!" Dean smells like he always does, like fresh berries and apple. Seeing as the Longbottoms live in a house with millions of berry bushes and fruit trees, it suits him. "Oh, Lily, meet Luna and Dean Longbottom, my friends from Hogwarts."
Luna and Dean shake Lily's hands. Professor Longbottom hugs my mum and dad. Harry's cousin Dudley arrives with Harold Dursley, another friend of mine, whom is in Slytherin, but he's still nice.
I say my goodbyes to Mum and Dad, Aunt Ginny, Uncle Harry, and Aunt Fleur ,whom had joined us with Uncle Bill. And with that, Lily, Hugo, James, Luna, Dean, Albus, Harold and I carry our belongings onto the train. James leaves to go sit with his other friends, and we all find an empty compartment to sit in.
Halfway through the train ride, the candy trolley comes to us and I buy the whole lot to share with my friends.
"I dare you to try this one," I give an every-flavored bean that I'm certain is barf to Harold.
He looks wearily at the bean and throws it in his mouth. He chews for a second with a confused face, then looks like he's going to throw up. I laugh. "I'm never going to let you dare me to do ANYTHING ever again. Was that barf flavor?"
I nod, trying to catch my breath. We all end up trying different candies, good and bad. I get an earwax flavored bean and the whole compartment is filled with laughs.
The train slows and stops, and we all look outside the window. Lily has to leave before us, since she's a first year.
Harold has to join the Slytherin crowd, Luna has to join the Hufflepuff crowd and the rest of us follow Professor Greene, the Professor for Gryffindor, to the Great Hall, set up for the choosing ceremony. All of the Gryffindors sit down at our long table and begin to converse. I see Lily walk in, lead by Professor Ferell, a tall plump woman in her fifties. I give her a wink and a thumbs up and she nods, unable to contain her smile.
The front of the Great Hall has the same long table facing horizontal, as the House tables face vertical, the same teachers sat at their typical spot at the table, the same podium with a stand shaped like a pole with an owl, wings spread, facing us, the same set up we saw everyday. But there is now a stool which I once say on with the same hat that placed me in Gryffindor.
I sit through the Choosing Ceremony, not really caring until I hear the name "Lily Potter" called. Lily sits down on the stool and places the hat on top of her head.
"Ah, another Potter, I thought there might be more." The hat says. "You're tricky, I tell you, different than most. Hmmmm, where to put you?" The hat rambles.
"Please, Gryffindor!" I hear Lily say.
"Tsk tsk tsk, I usually listen but so much more potential is in you than others. I say..." The hat finally makes a decision. I hold my breath. "SLYTHERIN!"
My mouth is hanging wide open, James seems stunned, Severus looks paler than usual, with wide eyes. Hugo, like our father, is too worried about the food that will arrive soon to even react. I see Lily face the ground as she walks to the Slytherin table. I follow her with my eyes. She sits down in the first empty seat she finds, inevitably, it's three seats down from the Malfoys. I see Scorpius staring at her, then looks at me, almost amused. I realize the whole room is quiet and everyone is staring at Lily Potter, the first Potter to ever be placed in Slytherin.
"Um, let's continue," I hear Professor Ringell say. His voice echoes throughout the silent room, as if we were in a cave.
The rest of the choosing ceremony, I once again, do not listen to. I try not to stare at Lily, the new Slytherin. But really, when your best friend is now in the evil house of the four, who's not going to stare?
The food magically appears on the large plates in the middle of the table. I try to converse with my group like everything is normal, but we're still too stunned to be 'normal' right now.
Scorpius's POV
Potter? Who slipped a confusion potion into the sorting hat's drink? Okay, that's irrational, the hat doesn't drink, but still. A Potter in SLYTHERIN? Like the Slytherin? The one I'm in? Um, no thank you.
"So, you're really a Potter?" I say to the girl, who hasn't looked up from the ground since the S in Slytherin was pronounced. "You sure you're not adopted?"
"Go screw yourself Malfoy!" Lily whispers, but I heard her alright.
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME POTTER?" I yell, infuriated.
She looks up, wet lines on her cheeks. Was Slytherin that bad? "I bloody said TO GO SCREW YOURSELF, SCORPIUS!"
I reach for my wand but decide not to use magic. That won't be punishment enough. I stand up, kneel down, so that we are face to face, and slap her. That's unlike me. Why did I just slap a girl, two years younger than me?
I sit down, the whole table looking from me to the girl in tears three people to my right. I cannot back down now, I will look weak. "You deserved it fat one." What has gotten into me? She's not even fat! And she hasn't eaten a bite at this table while I have been stuffing myself to my bloody bones!
I hear footsteps behind me and wands, too many to count, but at least three, pressing on the back of my neck.
"If you dare touch her, look at her or speak to her again you will be sorry." Multiple voices voices say at the same time. I turn around and see the rest of the Potters, Harold Dursley, the mud-blood, both Longbottoms, and almost every Weasel child alive, staring down at me with deadly looks.
"And what exactly will you do, Weasel-Bee?" I say, standing up and staring back at the Weasley that I had dumped ice cream onto, Rose, I think.
"Guys, I'm fine, just don't fight, I'm not really worth it," Lily's small voice comes from my left. Rose rushes to her side and comforts her, while the others still stood, wands at my throat.
Professor Reeve, the Slytherin teacher, tells them off, and they walk away, still glaring at me.
After the feast, the Prefects lead the first years to the dungeons, the rest of us follow closely behind and to our common room.
Lily runs up to the dormitories before anyone else can bother her. I feel pretty bad but, I just can't apologize.
