Don't own Inuyasha… cries .o.o.
Kagome always dreaded the day it would happen, in the back of her mind she was certain she had prepared herself for this moment from the day her son was born; though she had hoped it would never come to this.
"Momma... what's a half-breed?"
Kagome stopped cutting up the daikon she was preparing for supper at her son's question, the room grew quiet except for Anna's soft giggles as she played with her straw doll her father made; just thinking of her mate Kagome also noticed it was silent outside where Inuyasha had been chopping wood which meant he heard his son's question too. She couldn't see him because the door was closed but she could already picture the look of terror on his face as he relived the very day he asked his mother the very same question; Kagome wanted to go and comfort him but she knew she needed to find an answer for her patiently waiting small child who was still staring at her.
"W-Where did you hear that word sweet heart?" She tried to take this situation as calmly as she could, if Inu discovered that term on his own she would answer as honestly as she could; but if he overheard someone else say it she would have a lot of damage control to do for both her son and his father. There wasn't a doubt in Kagome's mind that if Inu had heard someone say it or it was directed towards him or his sister she was would have to stop Inuyasha from hunting the person down.
And speaking of the dog demon, "Answer your mother pup, where did you hear that word?" Inuyasha was standing in the hut's doorway ready to bolt the minute he got the name of the villager who called his pup that disgusting word.
Inu could sense the tension between both of his parents and immediately regretted asking the question that had been plaguing his mind for the last few days. And now hearing his father's angry growl behind him the little boy didn't want to answer for fear of something bad happening and his mother getting upset.
Kagome seemed to be the only one with a clear head in the hut right now, she watched as her boy hid his face which was a normal sign that he didn't want to talk about the current situation but that only made Inuyasha more angry; being both mate and mother Kagome needed get a handle on what was happening before it got completely out of control. "Inuyasha, please come and sit."
"I'm not moving woman... I want an answer as to who told him that word."
"Well you aren't going to get one if your growling like that... can't you see he's scared; come and sit so we can talk... dinner is almost done as well. You don't want to upset Anna do you?"
Their younger pup, who was barely a year old, was completely oblivious to what was going on around her, but the minute she saw her daddy a big smile came to her face and she dropped her doll raising her arms to be picked up. Since she was born Inuyasha had been unable to deny her anything, much like her mother, so seeing her now calling to him without really saying a word he couldn't stay angry about anything while in her presence.
Kagome inwardly cheered again that her daughter was able to calm her mate down within seconds, it was gift she had passed on to the small child and worked every time; now that Inuyasha was sitting by the fire with Anna in his lap there was no way he would leave quickly which meant she could get an answer from their son. Opening her arms in invitation the little boy got up from his pillow to sit in her lap, "Now sweet heart... where did you hear that word from? Did some one in the villagers say it too you?"
"Saburo called tennyo-chan and me half-breeds, he said his Papa called us that too; Sango-obasan got mad and sent him home."
"Saburo? Ain't that that Aoi's boy... didn't his family just move here before the rains came?" Inuyasha shifted Anna in his arms since the pup was trying to grab at his hair, she had became fascinated with the fact that her daddy had the same hair color as she did, so every time he held her she tried to grab a piece to find out why.
Kagome could hear the anger still in her mate's voice, Aoi and his family were a sore subject for Inuyasha and finding out it was his boy that called their children that hateful word only made things worse.
Aoi was a very abrasive man and sadly he was teaching his boys to be the same way. The man wasn't born in their village but came to live here last spring when he married Hoshi, who was the only child in her family; Aoi lost his wife the previous year and was left to care for three boys alone, Hoshi's father made a deal with him and the two were married but the man wasn't happy to find out that a demon and his family lived in the village he would now have to reside in. Aoi wanted to return to his own village but Hoshi refused to leave her parents without any form of care and they were too old to travel the distance, so he would either lose another wife or be forced to live in the same village as Inuyasha. They stayed but Aoi made his displeasure known verbally about having to live so close to a demon's 'nest', Inuyasha had heard it all before so it didn't bother him what the human said... but now Aoi was using his band of trouble makers to go after his pups and he wasn't going to have that.
"I'm sure if we talk to Hoshi she will talk to the boy and her husband, after all you saved her father from that serpent demon last harvest so they aren't against us."
"Keh, she can talk to them till she pops but that as-man ain't going to listen to her," Inuyasha caught himself before the curse word left his mouth, Kagome was always yelling at him for swearing and if one of the pups starting saying those words he was certain he would be sleeping outside in the trees again.
"Momma?" Inu watched as his parents spoke back and forth, his father aura would flare every few minutes and his mother's would react trying to calm him, the pup wasn't sure if they forgot he was still there or that he asked a question that had yet to be answered. Judging by their reactions to the word Inu concluded that 'half-breed' was a bad word of sorts like the ones his father let slip every now and then that his mother yelled at him for... but what did the word mean?
Kagome was so busy trying to reason with her mate that she completely forgot that her child was still waiting for an answer, "Um... well. Half-breed is a... a mean word for describing someone who... who's momma and papa are different."
Inu was even more confused now looking between both his parents he couldn't see a difference other than papa had white hair like Anna and momma had black hair like he did. But that didn't mean anything really since Sesshomaru-ojisan also had white hair and he was mated to Rin-obasan so what difference was there to call him a half-breed.
Kagome couldn't stop the soft chuckle that slipped from her lips because of the cute confused look on her son's face, "No sweet heart not that, yes momma and papa look different but what Saburo meant by... half-breed, is that momma is a human and papa is a demon so that makes Anna and you... half demons." Kagome let that sink into the boy's head before she spoke once more, "But you must know this Inu, it doesn't matter what you are but who you are. Papa was a half demon when we met and though he was somewhat rough around the edges he soon began to trust momma and we became friends; there's is nothing wrong with be a half demon so don't let anyone tell you there is okay?"
Though Inu didn't understand much of what his mother just said, he was only three after all, he understood that he was a half demon and there was nothing wrong with that... now to just get it through Saburo's head.
So this is going to be a two part story since Inu's powers didn't show up in this chapter, I don't intend for these little stories to be that long but this one got away from me. So you'll just have to wait and see what Inu has in store for the little trouble maker Saburo in the next chapter.
Thanks for reading!
