Chapter 8
Solange POV
There was a sudden change in atmosphere after my stunt. It began full of rage, which was to be expected, but then a cold, blinding fear as Nicholas dropped to the floor uttering a single word.
"No."
Silence.
"Nick?" I whimpered. All the color vanished from his face leaving him pale. His body crumpled on the floor, in a sitting position. He pulled the shaggy ends of his dark hair meanwhile tears dotted his eyes. "What's wrong?"
"Bro what's the matter, you're scaring us?" Quinn asked dead serious. Nicholas didn't respond, didn't even glance up, he only shook his head.
"Home. We need to go home." He whispered and then stood almost robotically. He walked straight for the exit and we stood there for a few seconds.
"Solange follow him. Duncan go with her, we'll stay and get our crap." Logan ordered. I hesitated looking at each of their worn faces but proceeded to where Nick had left. As I exited, Nick had already pulled up and had the engine running.
"Nicholas can you just tell us what the hell is going on?" I opened the passenger door and plopped myself down next to him.
"Not here. As soon as we get home I'll explain. But please Sol, just...not here, okay?"
I was going to argue until I saw the pleading look he threw me, "O-kay. It can wait."
Accompanied by Vera, the boys exited the place with our belongings and came up to the car. Logan seemed to be seething and the rest of them had angered expressions.
"I was told to give you this. Until next time Solange." With that Vera handed me a small envelope signed by Montmarte. When she sauntered away I tore the thick paper and read the elegantly written note.
Solange,
I shall be seeing you soon little mouse. Do not worry too much for your friend, I will find her soon enough. And when I do, you will be mine.
Also, keep the gown..it suits you.
Yours Soon,
M
The paper was left in tatters and fluttered in the wind as Nicholas sped away towards Violet Hill. The rest of the ride was silent.
Mom froze interrupting her furious pacing. The rest of our jaws dropped to the floor and we all sat, stunned.
"You heard what?" Sebastion asked.
"Her voice in my head. Two different times."
"Look, son, this has been excruciatingly difficult for all of us. It's perfectly normal to think..." Dad started and then stopped as Nick groaned.
"I'm. Not. Crazy. Hell, I wish I was, but I heard it as clear as day, okay? And she- she said..."
"What did she say?" I whispered. He shook his head and clearded his throat.
"She said she was tired of fighting and that they kept- kept hurting her there. Then she told me goodbye and to tell you guys she loves us."
My throat closed and chills racked my spine and I couldn't take it anymore. I sobbed and wailed for my best friend. For our roles, that I desperately desired I could switch. I was so desperate, I even prayed for Montmarte to find her quickly and unharmed. Then I would make sure I'd never put her in any danger again. Speaking of Montmarte...
"Mom. Dad. I have something to tell you." I told them after a few minutes of wiping the traces of tears from my face.
Lucy POV
"What the fuck?! That's impossible!" I stood and yelled at both of them. "You're lying or bat shit crazy or even both!"
Alara and Jack just widened their eyes at my outburst. I tore the pages from Alara's delicate hands and skimmed them. She had done a fair amount of research; she'd even provided a similar test of Jack's blood.
The difference between a vampire's blood to that of a human was the level of blood cells one had. Vampires needed blood for survival because of such a low blood count, hence the fangs and gory stuff in movies. Once a person hits zero (has no red blood cells), nearing the age of sixteen, the bloodchange occurs. It's also what makes it so dangerous. Some people's bodies aren't designed for it and don't survive. You either go into a permanent coma (die) or become one of the undead. But this only applied to those born with it.
According to the results, if I were completely human, I would be dead. I held to fingers to my neck. My pulse was strong and definitely there. But it was slower than usual.
"No. I have human parents and I- I haven't been turned. What in the hell is this?" I gestured to the papers.
"When we originally found you, we dug into every piece of information we could find concerning Lucy Hamilton. As it turns out, as an infant you were left at a fire station. There they handed you over to CPS, where you were adopted by the Hamiltons at six months. Jack and I haven't a clue who your vampire parents are." Alara said.
"Lucy the test doesn't lie. You're going to become a vampire but even then you'll be different then a regular one. You'll be like Jack."
My head joined the rest of my body in aching and I had to sit down on the sofa across from both of them. Why didn't my parents tell me anything? This was just too much. The whole mindspeaky thing and Cassandria's questioning clicked.
What am I? It scared me how easily I slipped into thinking my words instead of saying them aloud.
"You're like me. I can do things no other vampire can. I have searched from the ends of the Earth to find another but nothing. Until you. One evening I was passing through Violet Hill but I felt something I never had before. It was like a tugging that had pulled me to you and I watched you every day for the past month. You had a golden aura. The only other I've seen is the one in the mirror."
My head was roaring with this intake of information. All of this was too mind-boggling to accept.
"You can see auras?"
"Yes, its an easy concept. A color radiates from a vampire showing their emotions at that time surrounded by another representing their overall personality. However, it's rare for me to see one. Not everyone has them. Humans don't." He emphasized the last part, another indication of my abnormal situation.
"What else can you- we do?" I might as well ask about what was happening to me.
"As you know, we can project our thoughts to others but its only one sided unless its between you and I. Mmm, I can pluck certain thoughts from peoples minds, even though they're really faint. Then there's the emotions and the blood. Our blood is a lethal poison to other vampires and humans. Also, I've been able to force emotions on others before. Actually that's the one I'm best at while everything else is just muted, for lack of a better word." Jack's amber eyes looked to the floor. And then up at me.
"Is that what happened to Cassandria and Mateo? When they tried to kill me?" I shuddered at the thoughts of her screams and his ashes. I glanced at Alara, who'd been very quiet. She looked emotionless and stood without a word. She held Jack's gaze for a few seconds before leaving.
"Yeah. I made her feel a sense of fear and panic but he caused his own demise. They both got what they deserved. They had no right laying a finger on you." He said bitterly. I scoffed.
"Like you had the right to pluck me from my home and make me go bye-bye? Please, you are so full of shit Jack." I was pissed. And I was getting sidetracked. I needed to get home and talk to Liam and Helena to try figuring this out. I had enough information; I could reach Nicholas and tell him something, anything, to help him find me.
Don't do that. I don't know how but you're actually blocking me again. Your abilities are getting stronger.
"What do you mean?"
"A day ago you wouldn't shut up in your head and now I can barely hear a thing. I couldn't do a single thing until I turned 16. And even then I had to practice every day to get to where I am now. You, however, are still human. You'll be even more amazing as a vampire Lucy."
Maybe that's why I could communicate with Nicholas. It was me that allowed him to hear me, not the other way around. If I could reach Nicholas and gather a response, perhaps I'd be able to do the same with Solange or even Helena.
"Tell me again who's Nicholas?" His eyes narrowed.
"What?" I asked defensively. I couldn't help the oncoming blush. Jack noticed.
You know Lucy he won't be able to help you like I could. I can show you the vampire you could be. I can guide you through this whole thing. I didn't have a single person there for me and it was the worst thing I've ever expirienced. You aren't half way through with the transformation you'll endure. I want you to like being here with me, learning how we can be together. You and I, we're the same.
Jack came and stood so close his breath stirred the ends of my hair. He caressed my cheek. I put a hand on his chest and he mistook the action. In an instant he had put a hand behind my neck and kissed me. In the next instant, I pushed him away.
"Woah. What the hell are you doing? I'm not some Barbie doll you can play house with if that's what you're getting at!"
"I just thought- I mean-" Jack looked at me, shocked. I narrowed my eyes. He wanted us to 'learn how to be together'. Holy shit, was he saying he wanted to date me?!
"I would never in a million years want to kiss you, date you or be remotely romantic with you, got that? You seriously thought that maybe if you'd kidnap me, and give me a nice room I'd start to love you, or something? Sorry to burst your bubble but you're sick."
The moment I was through ranting, Jack changed. I guess in the back of my mind I had begun to believe I was okay here. Don't get me wrong; I need to go back home, with the Drakes. But ever since Jack saved me from Cassandria I honestly thought neither he nor Alara would be capable of hurting me. Jack had potrayed a boyish personality but also an alpha male one. I even thought he had wanted to keep me safe.
Until I saw the expression in his hateful amber eyes. Jack's entire body was tense but his once handsome face twisted in a grotesque manner. I took a step back. He blinked and once more his demeanor changed.
You're right.
I am?
I should've came about this in a completely different way.
How so? I was baffled.
"We are going to start over!" Suddenly Jack's eyes lit up and he smiled, causing a dimple to appear on his left cheek. My jaw dropped. Does he really think we'll just shake hands and I'll forget everything he had caused?
That's EXACTLY how this is going to go down.
Jack smirked down at me before reaching into his pocket for a phone. He dialed a number and held the phone to his ear.
"Hello Vera, dear, I have a favor to ask of you."
Hoped you enjoyed! Sorry for any errors I'll fix them if I notice them :) Please review...I need more happiness from them lol :D
