Jack's POV
"What's the verdict?" I asked Vera. It had only been a few days and I was growing more impatient by the second. Damn the girl for bewitching me, like this.
I had been a fool for rushing in to take her. It was my own fault for the situation at hand. I exhaled slowly and tried relaxing. She'd be mine soon enough. She is mine.
My attention snapped back to the phone in my hand. "Her memories are mine, for now. I erased the Drake's and anything that ties her to you and this place." she reassured me.
"Then what exactly is the problem, Vera. Stop stalling and spit it out, would you?" I growled. She was beating around the bush and her excuses were wearing thin.
For a few seconds I thought I had scared Vera away. I was on the verge of breaking something when she finally answered me.
"I'm worried as to what happens when she finally turns." Vera admited. "I'm not meant to tamper with so many memories, Jack. She's already showing vast potential and she hasn't even gone through the damn bloodchange!"
"Are you frightened, dearest Vera?" I chuckled.
"NO." she snarled. "I'm only bringing it to your attention that if you want this to work, you need a more permanent solution than just robbing Lucy of her memory. I have the feeling that the second she wakes from the bloodchange, I won't have the hold I do now. I'd be surprised if it takes her that long, even."
I paused. This was good. Vera's information came as no surprise. The second I laid eyes on the Hamilton girl, I knew she'd be different. Stronger, better, more useful.
"Look. I appreciate your concern but I have it under control. Besides, soon enough the Drakes will be unavailable to her and she'll have no choice but to come to me, memory or not." I assured her.
"Fine. Believe what you will, Jack, but one day you'll dig yourself far too deep into a pit that no one will be able to pry you out of." she warned. "But by all means, continue to toy and tamper with people as if they were things to be thrown aside once you've left them broken and in tatters."
"Carefull, Vera-" I began but my voice was met with a sharp click. I saw red as I threw the phone into the marble floor and it shattered to pieces.
Oh, how I wished for Alara's calming presence. I stepped out the door and managed to spot one of the cleaning ladies.
"You." I snapped. "Your phone. Give it to me."
Her brown eyes widened as she fumbled around in her pocket. She handed me the device and I nodded. "I'll replace it with a new one."
"Thank you, Master Stanford." she scurried away as I messaged Vera.
I can handle myself just fine, Vera. Don't patronize me. You will do as you're told.
I hit the 'send' button and almost immediately she responded.
Understood. -V
Good. I wondered what progress Cassandria had made. I should hear from her and Lady Natasha soon enough. I finally relaxed and continued to wait, trying to focus on the task at hand. After all, the Drakes might prove difficult to get rid of.
Lucy POV
The following morning greeted me with another headache and the smell of delicious food coming from downstairs. I glanced at the clock on the nightstand and jumped up from my bed.
Holy crap! It was already half past noon and I'd gone to bed before ten last night. The Drakes were going to get the impression that I was some kind of indolent teenager that slept ALL day. I mean, I'm lazy and all, but I don't usually sleep for more than twelve hours a night.
I cracked my bedroom door open an inch, and surveyed the hallway. There was no one in sight and I deemed it safe to scurry into the Ryan Gosling decorated bathroom. Sometime in the middle of the night, I'd changed into some ratty sweats and a faded Rolling Stones t-shirt. You could say I looked less than presentable.
"Just you and me, Gosling." I told the poster. It took me approximately twenty minutes to shower, change into a beige sweater and jeans, and brush my teeth. I counted to ten slowly and pasted a smile on my face before descending down the stairs.
I passed by Sebastion, Duncan and Marcus who were all in the living room watching the latest Walking Dead episode. (They were all still sporting their name tags, probably curtesy of Quinn.)
"Morning, Lucky!" they chorused before flinching at the tv's gore. I managed a quick wave before I was pulled into the dining room.
"Yay! You're finally awake." Solange bursted. I felt inadequate beside the stunning girl. She was only wearing some dark blue jeans and a white, flowy top but she looked great. My admiring was interupted by her bear hug. Who knew Solange was so dang strong?
"It's nice to see you too." I laughed. It was difficult focusing on just Sol when there were platefulls of food spread across the table. Helena, Liam, the twins, Logan, and Nick were all seated and well into eating their breakfast. "Morning, everyone."
"Lucky, honey, why don't you have a seat?" Liam suggested. I complied and plopped down right next to Nicholas, and Solange took her place beside me. "Help yourself to anything you want." he smiled.
I'm sure at this point I was drooling and Liam was trying to put me out of my misery. I tried not to dig into my gigantic plate of eggs, bacon and sausage immediately.
Logan snorted and misread my hesitation. "Nick didn't make a scrap of this, so there's no need to worry about food poisoning!" He high-fived the twins and even Solange laughed.
I felt my cheeks burn as I remembered last morning's humiliation. Nicholas glanced at me and shrugged as if saying 'don't worry about it'. Even the boys in the living room were laughing at his expense.
"Logan." Helena warned. She winked at me as Logan quickly stopped his laughing and shoved a forkfull of bacon into his mouth.
"Don't mind him, Luck. Logan has the maturity level equivalent to a five-year-old." Nicholas said. I smiled at the adorable nickname. He was apparently too uncomfortable using my real name. "He wouldn't know decency if it bit him in the ass."
That was bad timing on my part, because I took a sip of orange juice and now I was sputtering/choking. Logan's ears turned pink as he glared at the twins who were now laughing at him.
"He's got you there bro." Connor shrugged, smiling wickedly.
"Honestly, boys!" Helena said, exhasperated. "Lucky, as you can see I adopted each and every one of my sons from wolves."
"Mom, that's not true! This face did not come from wolves." Quinn chimed in. He turned to wink at me. Nicholas proceeded to throw a peice of sausage at his face.
This was beginning to look like an eventful, promising week.
I hoped you enjoyed the chapter! This was kind of a filler chapter because once again I'm suffering from a mad case of writer's block. Sorry for the length :( I'll update soon, I promise! And remember to check out Falling Blossom :p Ciao!
