Where Do We Go From Here

A/N: (PLEASE READ) Hello everyone, and welcome back to the wonderfully popular series WDWGFH! We left off with everyone in a good mood, and possibly some minor hysteria setting in. Whatever, right? I really hope you're excited to get to the cold expanses of winter. I plan on regularly updating, so there will be a few major updates. Also, just so you know, I left last chapter short, so I could make this one, extra super-duper bored-out-of-your-mind long. Just so you know, at the 2nd black line put All Gone (Alone) on repeat. Make sure you have it up BEFORE you start reading

Chapter 11: Out of the Darkness

We came across Jackson just a few weeks afterwards. There wasn't much left, but the dam seemed to be in great working order. Other than the obvious signs of Infected and Hunters alike, the hydroelectric plant beheld a few cans of food, and a half a roll of duct tape.

"Hey guys! Come take a look at this!" James was standing outside the control room, trying to break the lock with a shiv. "I can't get it open! Somebody want to help?!" Letting a sigh escape my lips, I signal for Jess and Rebecca to follow. Jogging up the steps, we start helping him to break into the office.

"Okay, well, this is a hydroelectric plant, so I would guess that it's locked with a dead-bolt, not a normal handle lock." Jess seems to be on the ball today. I guess that she's recovered from Alyssa's death, and probably stopped blaming me.

"Okay, so that means we just need to find a way to break the dead-bolt." Looking around, there's really not much to work with, but there was something by the turbines that caught my eye.

"I think I've got it," Sprinting back downstairs, I grab what I'm looking for. Running back up the stairs, I'm back. "Everyone stand back." Lifting the fire axe over my head, I slam it into the metal door frame.

"Hell yeah! Hit it again!" A smile comes to my face at Jess' remark.

"That's what she said!" Rebecca's joke makes me laugh that I have to stop for a second. The following swing left another 6 inch rift in the door frame. Another hit, and the triangle reveals the steel bolt locking us from the outside. The last strike makes a rather loud clang, and the door swings violently inward. The following whiff of cordycep spores sent us all backwards, and holding our breath.

Everyone but Rebecca pulled out a mask, and flicked on their flashlights. The control room was like the rest of the building, relatively good condition, and full of shit. The only thing that was worth taking was the map of Jackson on the wall, beside the blueprints of the building. We took that too, just in case. As we were on our way out, a slight glint caught Jess' eye.

"Hey guys, what's that?" She pointed to something sticking out of the fungus, beside a long dead clicker. He just so happened to be the cause of the spores in the room, but any gun is a great find in my book. She walked over cautiously, and tried to wrench it off the floor. The coryceps are strong, especially whenever they have something solid to grab onto. As Jess finally scraped off the remaining fungus, she gasped.

"How in the hell did this guy get an El Diablo?!" Nevertheless, as if on Que, the clicker sprang to life, peeled itself from the wall, and clamped down on Jess' calf. We all screamed, and the clicker reared back for another bite, but the blade of my axe cleaved its head in two against the wall.

"Oh shit! Jess!" Rebecca lunges over, in an attempt to comfort her, but to no avail.

"What do we do?" Jess' voice comes out in short, painful bursts. Her jeans slowly started darkening with blood.

"Well, we could leave you to turn, not a fan of that option. We could shoot you, but that doesn't sit well with me either."

"Or we could stop thinking of ways of killing me, and help me from fucking bleeding to death!" I could obviously see that she's in a lot of pain, or not. But I quickly root through her bag for the First-Aid kit we found on the ground floor of the plant.

"Okay, uh- what do we do?"

"Well obviously, we need something to keep me from bleeding to death!" dumping its contents in the floor, I pick up the large roll of gauze, and make a wad to temporarily slow the bleeding. As soon as the bandages were soiled, I take the bottle of peroxide, and dump it on her leg.

"RIPPING SHITING FUCKING DAMN SHITBALLS OF HELL! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!" I'm pretty sure that this hurts. Taking the rest of the gauze, I wrap it tightly.

"Okay, now we just need some constant pressure, and you should turn in about two days!"

"James, shut the fuck up!"

"Sorry, I'm just being realistic." Well, that should give her a few extra hours to live, but that still doesn't explain what we do next. We gingerly picked her up, and walked her back downstairs to the break room.

"Uh… guys. You know what you have to do, right?" Her eyes betrayed her mood, I could see the concern and sadness behind the electric blue hues.

"This is your choice. We want you to make it." Rebecca has started to tear up in the corner. James has a long-distance look to his face. As if he's seeing something far away. Slowly I pull out her El Diablo. "There's only one round. This is your call." She nods slowly, takes the gun, and hands it to Rebecca. At the sight of the gun, she begins to weep harder. Jess' look encourages her to do it. As Rebecca stands up, James and I start to tear up too.

Her seemingly loud footsteps slowly inch forward, and the caulking of the hammer fills the room. A few more sobs from Rebecca.

"See you guys later! I'll tell Alyssa, Kaitlin, and Debra you said hi!" Her bright face is the last thing that we see…

BANG…

Chapter 11 will continue.
