Edward POV: Chapter 2
I took a deep breath; yes I was right the hardest part was over. I knew what I had to do, what I had to eradicate I only hoped that Bella hadn't locked her window. She never had in the past; then again I knew exactly where they hid the front door key so it wouldn't be a problem if she had. Ten minutes that's all I had she could be back soon and I couldn't face her again. I knew if she confronted me in her house surrounded and consumed by her I wouldn't be able to walk away.
I ran to the back of the house, luck or maybe just because she was a creature of habit the window wasn't locked with a gentle push it squeaked open. I landed on the floor silently, even if Charlie had been home there was no way he would have heard me.
Think Edward, there was the CD I had made her and the pictures she had taken with her new camera, physically that was my only trace to her I was sure of it. I checked the CD player, not surprisingly there it was, one down one to go. Now I had to think if I was Bella where would I keep a scrapbook full of pictures? Her wardrobe maybe, I strode quickly across the room and flung the doors open. Her scent jumped out of the small space and engulfed me, I was wrong the hardest part was yet to come. I held my breath her scent was too tantalising, too familiar, a pang of loss hit me sharply. I quickly glanced around the room had could I have been so oblivious, I was a vampire! If I had just opened my eyes I would have seen the book lying on the floor next to the bed, definitely a Bella place to put it. I quickly flicked through the pages removing any photos of myself. I sighed deeply there was one taken just the other day of the two us, we looked happy, we even looked like a normal human couple. What was I doing, I couldn't take these items from her, but I couldn't leave them. I couldn't take them for myself it would just prove as a painful reminder. I started to pace, I had to decide soon, she could already be making her way home. Then an idea came to me as the floorboard beneath where I paced creaked. I couldn't take them and I couldn't leave them with her but I could leave them with her somewhere she wouldn't know about. I quickly pulled up the floorboards and stashed the items there. Suddenly I heard the front door open and close, she was back I had to leave. But then I heard his thoughts, Charlie, I still needed to leave. With that I replaced the floorboard as if they had never been touched and gave a last sweep of the room. It held so many memories, I still couldn't quite believe I was going through with this but it was for the best. It was starting to get dark, she still hadn't returned, maybe I should go and look for her. No I made the decision. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. I wanted to make sure at least one other person knew where she was.
Gone for a walk in the woods.
Bella
Charlie was closer now. I had to leave; I placed the note on Bella's bed and jumped through her window. I ran to my car and didn't look back. As I started to drive away, I glanced into the trees, I couldn't see her. There was no need to worry I thought to myself she'd promised me she wouldn't do anything reckless or stupid and getting lost in the woods would fit into both of those criteria. She was fine; she'd obviously just moved out of my sight, I tried to convince myself. I pushed my foot onto the accelerator, my speed slowly crept up. And then it struck me it wasn't early evening it was twilight.
