So I wrote this a little while back and decided to go back to it for a quick one-shot idea lol Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this concept and have a wonderful night! :D
The mission was simple.
Take down the terrorist group aiming for the czar of Grulovia to stop another rippling war in the already struggling country.
I swallowed hard as the man across from me pushed a bowl of something closer to me. His burgundy hair was wild and messy, forced down just a tad by a pair of red goggles that seemed to have seen better days. A ripped-up green t-shirt covered his torso, but it was evident by the small holes and rips that it too had been put through the trials of war. A small smile graced his lips as I glanced down at the food moment to realize it was some sort of soup before looking back up toward him.
Simple until you realize that the king himself was the terrorist and the group rebelling against him wasn't killing anyone when the king was killing thousands daily.
"You should eat." The man's accent was thick but easy enough to understand as he nudged my spoon closer to my hand. "I doubt you would want to feel weak during your stay here."
"Don't know how much longer I'll be here."
"Better reason to eat then." I scanned the man's features for a moment as I knew that I could trust him, but the idea still seemed off to me.
Razputin Aquato. Wanted co-leader of the rebellion group called The Muxs and great nephew of Lucrecia Mux. Seen as a terrorist to the world, but saved my life. Saved many lives by how it seems. Breaking into correction camps and freeing prisoners is the worst thing that man has done in the eyes of the law.
But here I sit across from him. The agent is given the mission of hunting him down and tearing his rebellion apart. Now being fed and looked after by his people, while the king and his men left me to die during an attack.
"You know what I am, right? Who I am?"
"Agent Zanotto, I am well aware of what you are." Razputin gave me a soft smile as he leaned back in the wooden chair he was occupying. "Does not mean you do not deserve food like any other being on this earth. I know what your people do and what you must have been told to do. Your government agency is known for taking out terrorists and things, after all." He shrugged a little as if he did not care about the last bit of information. "The Psychonauts. Never thought they would go after me though. As a child, I wanted to be one, after all."
"You wanted to be a Psychonaut?" I gave him a curious look as a small laugh escaped the man.
"Wanted nothing more than to be their best agent by the age I am now." He took a small breath before releasing it slowly. "A lot has changed since then."
"Is that why you helped me, then?"
"I helped you because you were needing help." He crossed his arms over his chest as he gave another small shrug. "I've vowed to help whoever needs my assistance. Even if it's someone told to kill me."
"So you would risk your life twice over then?"
"I'm already a dead man." He gave a smirk as he continued. "I'm wanted dead by the crown for my blood alone. Why not make a difference as I can then?"
"For your blood?" I gave him a confused look as he let out a small laugh once more.
"I've had a target on my back before I could even walk." He let out a chuckle as he leaned back in his chair. "My family ran from the crown for years. Until we were found when I was eleven. Then it was just me, my sister, and my older brother."
"Frazie then? Your co-founder of The Muxs?"
"Yep, and my older brother Dion. Though he's a bit more of the hidden kind." He unfolded his arm to reach for a cup that was sitting on his side of the table. "We understood then what the crown truly stood for and what psychics like us were going through on a daily. Being left orphans and losing siblings. Losing their lives or their rights to be who they are. It's why we became Muxs. It's why we do what we do."
"And what exactly do you do?" I watched the man as he brought his cup to his lips and took a sip. "Because the Gzar likes to preach to foreign countries that you're murdering innocent people." He scuffed as he took his cup away from his lips and placed it back down on the table.
"That man is the true murderer. Putting psychics into concentration camps and forcing them to use their powers for his liking or dying from refusal. Making children orphans of war and leaving them on the streets. That or taking them away to be cheap labor in mills." His voice was full of emotion before he took a break to seemingly calm himself. "No, we do not kill. We never have. And that man is why we never will."
"You've never killed?" I grew curious as I now leaned against the table with my elbows. "Honestly have never killed a man in this war?"
"I aim to wound. Never to kill. It's why I used a bow instead of a gun." He gestured with a hand over toward a table I knew had a longbow and an arrow quill. "I myself am an orphan of war. I will never force another child like me into this world. Even if it's an enemy's child."
"You're nothing like your government paints you as." I kept my eyes glued to his as a small smile graced his lips.
"I take that as a compliment." With a small push of his finger, he placed the bowl right in front of me once more. "But I hope my honesty is enough for you to have a few sips. You'll want to keep your strength, Agent." I looked down at what I realized was some kind of soup before looking back up at him. "I'll even take a sip first if you wish." A cheeky smile cracked across his face as a more childish demeanor released itself from the young man.
"I doubt you would have poisoned it." I spoke softly as I lifted up the small spoon he had given me before. "But the offer eases me."
"I'm glad." His features softened as I used the spoon to lift a small amount of the soup to my lips. "You can call me Raz, if you wish." I swallowed quickly as my body finally acknowledged how truly hungry it must have been.
"Raz?" I took another spoonful as he gave a simple nod with a warm smile.
"It's what I personally prefer. What should I call you? After all, you might be stuck with us for a little while." I swallowed once more before speaking.
"Lili."
"Well, Lili, it's a pleasure to meet you. Despite the circumstances." He let out a small chuckle as I quickly finished up the soup. "And I'm glad I could get you to eat. It must have been a little while since your last meal, I bet."
"I'll have a lot of explaining to do once I can reach my overseers."
"I hope it'll be all good things." The man leaned back in his chair as his arms crossed over his chest once more. A smile spread across his cheeks as I gave him a small nod.
"A lot that they're not expecting."
