Ororo was furious. Logan possibly older than everyone in the mansion put together was probably the most juvenile.
"Logan! I expect you to be more responsible! You're acting as if you were Jubilee's age! The professor isn't here and I need you to pull yourself together man! Act your age!"
Scott, who wasn't fond of Logan on the best of days, even thought she was being too harsh. "Ororo, he just spilled the milk. You know that old saying…"
"It's not just about the milk! I feel like I'm the only one who is showing self control around here. With the professor gone and me in charge, I need you to be just a bit more responsible!" A strong breeze cam through the room and she walked with it to the door. You could feel the electricity on her like static. Scott followed her out the door.
"Ororo… I know it's hard right now but we'll get through it… together." They were in her office by now and he clasped the white gloved hand in his. "What was supposed to be a perfectly normal friendly gesture had a lot more intimacy then he meant it to but, he was determined to ignore and it seemed that so was she.
"Oh, Scott," she started to see why Jean used that phrase over and over again, "I don't think I can do this anymore. Perfect control over my powers, temper, and being a good leader of the X-men; it's so difficult." She sighed heavily and sank down on the love seat. The window above it showed dark storm clouds.
He sat next to her and put an arm around his friend. "Obviously, the Professor thought you could do it, or he wouldn't have left you in charge. As for me, I know you can do it… 'Ro," he added using the nickname Gambit and Logan had given her.
She smiled that dazzling smile at him and they both froze for a minute, their eyes connecting. Something happened in the second the stared into each other's eyes. Whatever happened, their relationship was never the same again.
"Scott, Ororo, lunch is ready!" Jean yelled from the kitchen.
Her voice seemed to pull them back to reality and, for some reason, she felt extremely guilty for sharing that moment with Scott. In that silence nothing seemed to happen yet everything. The way she felt she might as well have kissed him! And at that thought, she instantly wished she had. Dangerous thoughts, Ororo! Time to get up now before anything bad happens.
Scott seemed to be thinking along the same lines because he stood up quickly and called, "Smells great, Jean!"
The sun was shining bright.
