His Heart

Her voice floated across the Millennium Falcon, individual words popping out at him, but the whole sentence not making any sense. Something about a hammer, Artoo, and a vat of cleaning oil. The only time I can stare at her without her noticing is when we're having an argument. Droids, hammers, and cleaning oils are bound to add up to an humdinger of one.

When opportunities came, Han Solo was not one to let them get away. "Hold off for a minute," he hissed at Chewie, who was working, loudly, on a piece of unsurprisingly defective equipment in the other room, bought from a smuggler for half the market price. His big fuzzy head popped from behind the divider, his facial expression as puzzled as a Wookie could make it. "Quit pounding on that stupid machine with your stupid tools, and give me a moment to think!"

It came out more childish than it sounded in his head, but where a Girl is concerned, it's okay to be a little short-tempered with your best friend. The big creature shuffled out into plain sight, nothing but a hunk of meat in one hand and a canteen full of water in the other. His lunch break. "Who's doing that infernal pounding? I need to think about what I'm gonna say to Leia to make her blow a fuse." A large finger reached out and poked Han gently in the chest.

Leia's voice, sharper, more impatient, and nearer this time, stopped Han mid-objection and whoever was pounding so loudly sped up a notch. A jolt shot through his arm where a small hand touched him, and his heart stopped beating when she came around into his line of vision.

"Who was doing that pounding," was croaked out before her face was directly in front of his, paralyzing him.

"Nobody's pounding."

His heart started up again, and resumed its crescendo as she started to talk about pesky droids and defective tools, giving him a golden opportunity to look all he wanted.
