Orange- Desire

"An orange rose means desire- as in 'I want you'" Leanne had said.

And Seamus did want Lavender. Well, he wanted her to say yes to his invitation to the Yule Ball which so far she hadn't. A whole week it had been and there was no evidence at all that she had even received his rose except for the way that she and Parvati Patil had been giggling and nudging each other at breakfast yesterday while looking, very obviously, at Seamus.

He began to wonder if maybe he'd got it wrong. He'd thought that the colour of roses and their meanings was a universally understood truth among girls but perhaps he was wrong. Perhaps Lavender didn't know that a yellow rose with red tipped petals meant falling in love and an orange rose meant desire. Perhaps she just thought Seamus was being a bit weird.

Sceptically, he fiddled with the orange petals of the rose that was tied to his owl's leg and considered. It would be impossible though- wouldn't it?- to misunderstand the note that was tied to the rose's stalk. It was only one word long but Seamus thought that the one word said everything he needed to say.

Please?
