It seemed like the midnight visits from Spencer were just a dream—perhaps a drunken delusion—whenever they were in public Gus was always there and Carlton didn't want to bring up something so personal (to see if it actually did happen or not) in front of a sidekick.
Not that Carlton would call him that to his face, but he did wonder what Gus brought to the table, professionally.
