Hey guys, sorry for the late update. I know I usually update quickly. Well for those of you who review, you would know that I was on holiday for five days and I wasn't in town. How would they know you ask? Because I reply to every one of my reviewers, and they always know what's going on with me and when updates will be. My reviewers are always kept up to date, so maybe it's time for you non-reviewers to review, huh? I mean it takes like not even five minutes. I've had over 700 hits on this story now, and not even 20 reviews. How sad is that? Maybe I should start saying if I don't have this many reviews, I won't update or something. Just a thought...I dunno. Reviewing does help you know, at least I know people aren't just skimming through the chapters and that they like it.
Thanks to all my reviewers that actually do review, it's greatly appreciated!
R&R PLEASE! See that sentance? It's there for a reason lol.
Chapter 6: New Strengths
The group had finally boarded the train headed to Paris, France early the next morning, and they all sat down eagerly, awaiting they're arrival that night.
"This is like the train we were on when we first met." Mia said. Kai looked around the train, and no sense of familiarity came to him.
"Is it?" He asked. "I don't remember anything. It's all clouded up." He said as he looked down. Mia and Kai sat down on the seat together, and they both looked out the window to see last-minute passengers hurrying to get on the train before it left.
"Don't worry Kai; it'll all come to you again eventually. I'm sure it will." Mia assured. Kai wasn't too sure that he could believe her though. He wasn't even sure if we wanted to remember. What if he turned out to be someone he always hated? What if he wasn't what he thought he was? What if…
The two abruptly turned their heads to Tyson and Max when the two started fighting over the window seat. Mia gave out a small laugh and Kai didn't give any reaction to them. He always thought he was the lone wolf, not caring about anyone. But now his past was different, and he didn't know what to think of himself anymore.
"What was…what was I like before?" Kai asked all of a sudden. The train had already been going for a good two hours by now, and everyone was talking among themselves in small groups. Only Kai and Mia remained silent for that time. Mia cocked her head and smiled.
"Well, you haven't really changed much. You've definitely got the same sarcastic attitude as before." Mia laughed. "I remember you used to always wake up so early in the morning, watching the sunrise. You said you enjoyed it because it reminded you of your mother's warmth." Mia said. Kai was shocked that he had told her that before. It was true, even now it was. But he had never told anyone about his weaknesses before, at least he though he didn't.
"I don't really remember her." Kai admitted. He was talking about his mother. "I can only remember the warmth of her presence." Kai said almost to himself.
"You've never known much about her, even when I first met you. But you always spoke so fondly of your mother, something I could never do." Mia said. Kai shot a glance towards Mia, and she was looking down, it almost seemed like there was hatred in her eyes. He wanted to ask why, but he knew she would just end up changing the subject.
From the corner of Mia's eyes, she spotted a group of teenage girls eyeing Kai. She turned her head to Kai to see him trying to hide himself the best he could.
"What are you-" Mia started, but she was cut off by one of the girls.
"You're Kai Hiwatari aren't you?" She squealed. By her French accent, it was obvious that the girls were from France. The rest of the girls had joined her and they all gawked over Kai. "We are your number one fans in Paris. I can't believe that THE legendary Kai is here, on this train, with us!" She said. The rest of the girls jumped in joy and nearly pushed Mia to one side. When they finally noticed that Mia was sitting next to Kai, they all glared at her maliciously.
"What, she your girlfriend?" One girl asked Kai with hurt eyes. She looked as if he cheated on her, even though Kai had never even met her in his life.
"She's kinda short don't you think? I mean I thought all guys went for the tall and skinny kind, not short and puny." Another girl mentioned. Indeed, they were all tall and freakishly skinny. No doubt they had been working on their weight ever since they started Kai's fan club.
"Uh oh." Kai said. By now, he knew that Mia hated being called short. He tried holding her back as she reached for them, trying to punch the lights out of them. Mia's struggle left Kai unable to hold her back.
"PUNY! WHO ARE YOU CALLING SHORT AND PUNY! CAN A SHORTY DO THIS! HUH!" Mia exclaimed. She had been punching, kicking, and throwing the girls all around the train, and soon she managed to get them out of their particular car with blooded noses. "THAT'S RIGHT! GO HOME AND CRY OUT TO YOUR MOMMY THAT YOU WERE BEATEN BY A SHRIMP YOU ANOREXIC SLUTS!" She shouted.
"Looks like someone was a bit too jealous." Tyson commented. Ray and Max both sniggered and Mia glared at all three of them.
"Jealous of what? Them being so tall, if only the height in our family wasn't passed down to him then maybe I'd be a bit taller." Mia said pointing to Daryl.
"Hey it's not my fault I'm tall. Besides, it probably has something to do with me being older and all." Daryl said trying to defend himself. He held up his arms as if surrendering to his chaotic twin sister.
"By two minutes!" Mia countered back.
"Two minutes and fifty-seven seconds." Daryl said.
"Technicalities." Mia mumbled to herself. Everyone else had heard and started laughing. Mia looked around and sighed. She then sat back down with Kai.
"I've always wanted to go to Paris!" Hilary said. "I always dreamed of coming here on my honeymoon. Sitting on top the Eiffel Tower, listening to romantic Paris music with my new husband, eating delectable French cuisines, gazing into the beautiful night sky of Paris." Hilary sighed as she daydreamed of the perfect scene played out in her mind.
"Oh please. I'd much rather go on a cruise." Mariam countered.
"Oh brother." All the guys chanted. They all sweatdropped when the rest of the girls started arguing of their favorite honeymoon locations. The only one who didn't fantasize was Mia, who had fallen asleep on her seat. Soon after, her head leaned against Kai's shoulder while she was still asleep. Kai was still awake and when he noticed a sudden pressure on his shoulder, he started blushing. He took a blanket out of his bag and put it on Mia. She snuggled closer to him from the warmth of the blanket, and fell into a deeper sleep.
Kai could hear Max and the rest of the guys trying to contain their laughter when they saw Mia resting on his shoulder.
"Oh put a sock in it." Kai grumbled. "Honestly. Why am I stuck with a bunch of immature brats?" Kai pondered.
"Hey we may be immature, but she's the brat around here." Tyson pointed to Mia. Even though she was asleep, she immediately sat up and glared at everyone staring at her.
"Who called me a brat?" Mia asked with hint of malevolence in her voice. "Tell me or I'll kill every single one of you." She threatened. Everyone pointed to Tyson, and he suddenly became very blue.
"Uhh…I…I just suddenly became very…uhh…train sick…yeah, that's it! Hehehe…" And with that he dashed off to another car in the train, and Mia sat back down. She noticed a blanket on top of her, and she looked around to catch the person who had given it to her. She noticed Ray motioning that Kai had done it. When she looked back to the seat beside her, he was gone.
Mia got up from the seat and went searching for Kai. Tyson came back looking in ever corner to make sure Mia wasn't there. He suddenly went pale and everyone was worried.
"Tyson? What's wrong?" Ray asked, approaching Tyson slowly. He started shaking and his face went blue.
"Tyson?" Lee asked.
"I can't believe it." Tyson said. All of his friends stared at him, waiting for a reply. Concern was written all across their faces. "I can't believe that…that I…AHHHHHHHH! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS! I FORGOT TO TRY SOME OF THAT SWISS CHOCOLATE! I'M SO STUPID!" Tyson whined. He ran around screaming and kicking, and everyone fell down anime style, sweatdropping along the way.
"Well, I can't argue with that last statement." Max said with a laugh. Everyone got up from the floor, laughing uncontrollably.
"It's all Kai and Mia's fault I forgot about the delicious Swiss Chocolate. I'm goin after them." He said as he stormed off to the cars, searching for the two who had gone off. He paced down every car as the passengers looked at the boy strangely. Car after car, there was no sign of Mia or Kai, until he reached the second last car. Mia's white trench coat had come off somehow, and all the passengers were looking at her strangely.
"Look mommy. That girl's arm is strange. She must like metal a lot to be wearing it on her arm, even in a train. Do you think it gets hot?" Tyson heard a little boy say.
"Now Travis, that isn't a very nice thing to say. I think that's actually a metal arm. She must have done something terrible to have lost her arm." She accused.
Tyson could see Mia was hurt, but she didn't show it well. She grabbed her coat from off the floor and put it back on.
"Hold it. Why would anyone let a freak like you get on this train? What if you use that arm as a weapon or something?" A man said. "For all we know you could be some kind of murderer out to kill every one of us." All the other passengers gasped and backed away from Mia. She merely ignored them all and left to go find Kai. She didn't even notice Tyson had entered the car.
"Mia, are you ok?" Tyson asked as he finally caught up to her. She was surprised when she saw him, but didn't pay any more attention.
"You get use to this after a while Tyson." She said glumly, and walked off into the last car of the train. "It's not everyday that a person sees someone else with a metal arm. When they don't know what really happened, they start making assumptions to ease their curiosity. That's how the human mind works." She said as she opened the door. The wind blew through their hair, and this was the last car of the train so Mia knew Kai would be there. The two of them walked over the connecting joint of the two cars, and opened the door into the last car. Inside was the storage room, and Tyson could hear the sound of a Beyblade.
"Hey Kai. We've been looking for you ya know." Tyson said with Mia standing next to him.
"I'm just training. Since you kids are taking a nice relaxing vacation, everyone is getting weaker by the day. I don't intend on doing so." He retorted.
"To train the mind to its potential, you must also train the body." Mia spoke all of a sudden. "That's what you used to always tell me." She directed her statement to Kai.
"But why would you say something like that?" Tyson asked Kai. Kai glared at the boy and Tyson shut his mouth when he realized Kai still didn't remember anything.
"You guys are always training your minds and your bit beasts when you're blading. But have any of you actually sparred with each other in a real fight?" Mia inquired.
"A fight? You mean like fists?" Tyson asked. Mia nodded. "Well…no we haven't."
"You should try it. It'll help you out in the future." Mia said. "Come on, it's time to eat."
"Alright! Food!" Tyson exclaimed, and he raced out the door to their car. Mia and Kai slowly followed the hungry boy to their car.
"So I take it that you and I used to spar." Kai said. Mia merely nodded, and no other words were said. On their way back, the people that had been eyeing weirdly at Mia fell silent right when she walked in.
"That must be her accomplice." A man said pointing to Kai.
"Someone should get the police." Another man piped in.
Kai glanced back at Mia who looked pained, and he could tell. She put her hands in her pockets, trying to hide the metal hand. Kai glared at everyone on the car, and he grabbed Mia's left arm and paced down the hall. Once they reached the next car, Mia felt relieved, but she knew that other passengers probably knew about her arm by now.
"Come on, let's get some food and then I'll try sparring against you. Just like old times." Kai said, trying to change the subject.
"Sure." Mia said half-heartedly. Her eyes still held the pain and sorrow from before. Without another thought, Kai moved in and wrapped his arms around her body. Mia was shocked, but she leaned into his shoulder and closed her eyes, enjoying the sensation of the warmth around her.
"I'm sorry." Kai whispered into her hear. "It must be so painful for you to go through that everyday of your life." They both pulled away and stared at each other. After a moment, Mia just gave him a smile.
"Thank you." She said. The two walked back in to see everyone else enjoying their meals. Mia and Kai found two trays on their seats, and they both picked it up and sat down to start eating.
"Thish is sho goo!" Tyson said with his mouth full. As he spoke, food spat from his mouth.
"Tyson, that's gross!" Hilary yelled. "Don't talk with your mouth full and wipe your mouth!" Hilary snapped.
"Yes, mother." Tyson teased as he swallowed his food and grabbed a napkin. The rest of the boys started sniggering, and both Tyson and Hilary eyed them suspiciously, wondering what was going on.
"Hey are we in Paris already?" Max asked. The train was stopping at a station obviously in France, but they weren't sure if it was Paris.
"The conductor is just taking a break, and the passengers get to sight-see as well. Let's see, according to Dizzi, we're stopping for an hour and a half." Kenny explained as he observed the schedules on his laptop.
"But where are we stopping at?" Ray asked, looking out at the scenery before him.
"This place is called Lyons. It's not exactly on our way to Paris, but it's part of the train's route." Kenny said. Everyone left the train to go look around the city.
"This place is no Paris. But I still like it!" Hilary said cheerfully. It was still a nice city for tourists to visit. The city was an attractive scene with two hills and two rivers surrounding the city. It was also very close to the Alps and Mediterranean Beaches which was a plus for tourist attraction. Unfortunately the gang didn't have enough to time to go to any beach, but they could visit the numerous shopping malls and Beyblade stores.
"How about we meet back here in an hour? That way we won't miss the train." Ray suggested. They all agreed and headed in separate directions. Kai and Mia had left already knowing what they anted to do. Most of the girls went shopping and the rest of the guys went to all the Beyblade stores in town.
Exactly forty-five minutes later, the girls came back with bags filled with new clothes, and the boys came back with bags filled with new Beyblade parts. But Mia and Kai were still no where to be seen. Everyone thought the same thing, and looked around for Kai and Mia. They ended up in the park in the middle of the city, and they could see a huge crowd forming around the fountain in the center of the park.
"What's going on over there?" Ray asked with his hands full of bags. He was carrying his Beyblade parts along with Mariah's clothes, and the weight was tiring him a little bit, although he didn't want to admit it. They all walked through the crowd, and Rick stood in the front pushing everyone aside.
"Move it or loose it." He yelled out. Everyone sweatdropped and the girls apologized to the crowd as they made their way through. Once Rick had pushed their way through the crowd entirely, they could finally see what was going on.
"Hey Kai! Mia! We've been looking everywhere for you!" Max shouted. But the two ignored the blonde boy, and continued with their fight. "Wow, look at them go. I had no idea Kai was so good." Max gaped.
"I had no idea Mia was so good." Garland said with an amazed voice.
This was all coming back to Kai so easily. He had never known he could fight like this so well. He always knew his physical capabilities and endurance was stronger than the rest of his team's thanks to his training in the abbey. But he never realized how he was such a good fighter. He managed to dodge most of Mia's blows, but she had been able to dodge most of his as well. He managed to grab Mia's leg while she was in the air and he threw her towards the fountain. She instinctively landed gracefully on top the dolphins that were sprouting water from their noses. Clasping her hands together, she controlled the water surrounding her with her hands, and she sent a blast of water flying at Kai. Kai had no idea what to do since he didn't know how to counter an attack so strange, so his instincts took control over his body. He snapped his fingers and flames burst through them, targeting the water. Once the two elements collided, they both vaporized.
"H-how did I…" Kai said, looking at his hands in amazement. The rest of the group were wide eyed and their jaws aiming for the ground. Kaya and Daryl merely smiled as Mia leapt down from the fountain. As she leapt through the air, she flipped her body and landed with two legs on the floor. The crowd had dispersed once the fight was over, and they went back to doing whatever they wanted.
"You didn't know how you did that?" Mia asked. Kai looked at her with a dull expression and she laughed before an explanation. "Well you obviously have your dagger and Beyblade with you, or else you wouldn't be able to do that."
"Why not?" Max asked in confusion.
"Well usually, we'd have to call our bit beasts into our dagger and use those to help us in battle. But Mia and Kai found a different way to use the elements." Kaya cut in. "For Mia it's quite simple. Her metal arm acts as a conductor and the power from her bit beast flows through the metal like electricity would. By clasping her hands together, she creates a reaction between metal and flesh and she is able to control the water surrounding her."
"Of course! It's all so simple!" Kenny exclaimed as he typed on his laptop. "I can't believe I didn't realize that sooner!" He said.
"Now for Kai, it's a bit more complicated. Mia can control water like that because her metal arm gives her a boost, and Kai can too because the thermal energy from his bit beast is easily conducted through his body. The body is made up mostly of water and metallic particles, so it's easy to conduct heat throughout his body. And when he snaps his fingers he's also creating a reaction and boom, bombs on command." Daryl finished for Kaya.
"Say whaa?" Tyson asked out of his stupidity.
"Just ignore him." Hilary told Daryl.
"Of course! Of course!" Kenny shouted typing more and more ferociously on Dizzi. "Wait, so you and Kaya probably can't do that because you can't conduct air or Earth through the body can you?" Kenny asked. Kaya and Daryl both shook their heads.
"Well I have to admit; you gave me quite a work-out seeing as you don't remember how to fight." Mia said.
"You're pretty good yourself." Kai admitted. "And as for our training schedules. I think we'll add in sparring to the list." Kai said, directing the statement towards the Bladebreakers, although he was still looking at Mia.
"I think that's a good idea." Max said with a thumbs up.
"One hour's up guys." Ray said. "We should head back to the train before we miss it." He said. They all nodded and walked back to the train headed to Paris.
