Chapter 9: Drawn to the Glow

Tyson and Hilary walked ahead of everyone else speaking silently to each other. The Bladebreakers walked slower than usual, and their friends weren't any different.

"So…how far until we get to Enrique's mansion?" Hilary asked Tyson, trying to start up a conversation among the two of them.

"It's not far from here. Maybe ten more minutes I'm guessing." He replied. Hilary was shocked that such an answer came from Tyson. Usually he'd whine about walking, but today it was different. Then again, everything was different now that they were gone. Tyson's eyes were averted from Hilary, and were directed to the side. "Just like Zeo." He whispered quietly to himself, but Hilary had heard it. If it were anyone else, they wouldn't have known what he was talking about. But she did.

"They are." Hilary answered.

"You were right, Hilary." He said. This shocked her even more. Since when did Tyson Granger admit that she was right? "It must be so hard on the both of them. Daryl, an imperfect child. I know I'd be lying on my bed all day long at that thought. That I was imperfect, and I couldn't do a thing about it. Feeling so helpless."

"And for Mia…" Hilary started, but instead she was cut off by Tyson.

"When we were on the train, her coat came off and the passengers saw her arm. You know what they did?" He paused for a moment for Hilary to answer, but she didn't. Instead, they silently spoke to each other, and he knew to continue. "They immediately accused her of being some kind of murderer out to get them. How inhumane is that? It may not have been a racist comment, but I still took it in like it would have been." He said. Hilary stopped herself from teasing him for using 'big words'. But at a time like this, it wouldn't be right. As an alternative to teasing him, she merely smiled which caused Tyson to stare at her confused.

"You've really grown, Tyson." Hilary complimented. Tyson blushed at the comment, and he avoided his gaze to the mansion that stood in front of them.

"Uhh, we're here now. Maybe we should ring the doorbell." Tyson suggested as his blush held its place on his cheeks.

As he walked in front of the gate to ring the bell, the others had finally caught up with the two. Tyson's blush had faded at last, and everyone was surrounding Tyson. All they needed to do now was wait for Enrique to open the enormous metal gates for them.

Kaya stayed in the back with Kai. Both didn't know why they were here, but they were. They didn't need to speak to each other to tell what each other were thinking. They already knew. It was like a connection between brother and sister. It felt nice to have someone that cared for you, and someone to care for again. Kai was always so alone, and he still kept away from his friends still. Even though they cared so much for him, he didn't know how to respond to their kindness. Having such a kind sister, he didn't even think he deserved a life such as this. He didn't deserve such kind friends, and such a warm sister. But through all the pain and suffering he had endured as a child, God finally gave him another chance. If only he could give that second chance to Mia. He would gladly give it up for her. Why was she being punished so brutally for something that she never did?

Enrique stepped out of the door with a huge grin on his face to see all the visitors he had. Oliver stood next to Tyson and Hilary at the front, and Enrique walked down the long dirt path towards the gate. The last time they were here, he was escaping and heading towards a date with his two ladies. Of course he had other girls to worry about now. They changed every week after all. After several minutes of waiting for the blonde to reach the gate, he opened it and greeted every one of them.

"And who's this lovely young lady?" Enrique's eyebrow raised as another grin was placed on his lips. This time there was a sparkle in his eyes that he had mastered over the time as being the 'ladies' man'.

"Don't touch her." Tyson glared at Enrique as he slowly stepped back from Hilary who held a blush on her cheeks now.

"Alright I get it, she's yours. Backing away now." He implied putting his hands in the air as if surrendering to Tyson. Tyson blushed and Hilary's blush grew redder, and she was sure her face was as red as a tomato at this point. His eyes wandered else where and immediately a laugh came out form his lips. "Don't tell me that Mr. Sunshine, the Sourpuss got himself a girl too now." He pointed to Kai as Kaya was still standing closely beside him.

"She's. My. Sister." Kai growled angrily through clenched teeth.

"I'm surprised she's not a sourpuss like you." Enrique said as he walked towards Kaya. His attention then turned to her as he held her hand and raised it to his lips. "You have exquisite taste in your gowns, my lady." He kissed her knuckles and bowed in front of her, showing what a gentleman he was.

"Why thank-you, kind sir." She replied with a smile, not minding the compliment one bit.

"If you don't mind. May I ask for your name?" He inquired. Everyone rolled their eyes at Enrique as he flirted with the new lady.

"My name is Kaya Hiwatari." She answered politely.

"It's a great pleasure, Miss Kaya. Shall we enter my mansion? It'll be my pleasure giving you the grand tour." He kept saying as his flirtatious skills were becoming more and more obvious.

"Sorry, no flirting unless her big brother approves. And I'm more than positive he doesn't." Ray chuckled as Kai grew more and more furious, trying his hardest to hide it. Of course he failed miserably at that task.

"THIS PLACE IS HUGE!" Everyone screamed in unison. Kaya and Kai just looked around as if it were only the size of a small garage. Kaya went over to observe some of the paintings on the walls. They were quite remarkable. Each painting held one of Enrique's ancestors, staring off into the distance proudly.

"That one's my mother and father." Enrique said. He pointed to the one with a couple both smiling broadly. The young man standing next to her definitely resembled his parents greatly. Something she was sure he was very proud of. "They passed away a long time ago." He finished solemnly.

"Oh, I'm very sorry for your loss." Kaya said. They exchanged smiles and everyone else sweatdropped.

"I bet he uses that line on every girl." Mystel commented.

"Hey, it's working." Michael beamed at a new thought coming into his mind. "Kaya sure is a nice girl. She's the complete opposite of Kai. If I haven't ever met Kaya, I would probably picture her as a sourpuss just like Kai. The thought gives me the creeps." Michael added, shuddering to make his point go further.

"Very funny." Kai said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm gonna go train." And he walked off without saying another word.

"Hey Kai, wait a sec." Enrique called. Kai stopped in mid-step, but he didn't look back at the blonde. "If you want a really good place to train, you should head to the Roman Coliseum. It's got the greatest obstacles if you want to add in some technical routes into your training regiment. It may not be the best for the blade itself, but it improves my skill by ten fold each time I train there." He suggested.

"I'll think about it." Kai said. Once he was away from the mansion, he took Enrique's advice for once and went to the Coliseum. He didn't care what he did, but holding a straight face with everyone was his top priority at the time. Now he let everything out. With a heavy sigh, he looked into the sky and saw the sun about to set.

Where are you?

"This is it. I know he's here somewhere." Clutching her arm, she didn't realize it was in pain.

"Maybe we shouldn't…" The expression held was one of worry and concern. Hands reached up to rub his eyes, trying to clear his vision for it was becoming blurry.

"Of course we should! Don't chicken out on me now. We've come too far to back away now. I can feel it." She was determined to do this. Too determined.

"Me too."

"Exactly, why shouldn't we…?"

"No, not that. I can feel it in my chest. I can't…"

"What's going on?" Her eyes widened as a red light overwhelmed their bodies.

The group split up all over the city, doing whatever they pleased. Hilary decided to join Tyson to go to a Beyblading shop. Everyone else was doing something else though, so it was just the two of them.

"You want to get something to eat after this? My treat." He offered. Hilary looked up from one of the parts she was looking at. It was a new attack ring that would suit Tyson more than anyone. She had picked it up and she now held it firmly in her hands, but a blush crept onto her cheeks once again.

"Since when did you become so nice?" Hilary joked, trying to bring Tyson back to his old self.

"I don't know. I thought you might like it is all. Unless you want to pay for the buffet for me." He said, defending his title of the clown. "But seriously, it's just been different now. You might even say I miss the twins, even after just a few days. I can't believe I was even against them in the first place. I'm glad you made me change my mind, Hilary."

"I'm glad too." She stretched her hand out, and before she knew it they were holding hands. With a faint blush on Tyson's cheeks, he tried to hold a smile and took the attack ring from Hilary's hands.

"It's a nice attack ring; you've got a good eye for these parts you know?"

"Thank-you." She squealed. Tyson then led her to the front and paid for the attack ring. They walked out with a small bag in Tyson's hands, and they were still holding hands.

"Well lookie here. What do we have?" Michael taunted as Rick, Lee, Garland, Mystel, Brooklyn and he marched towards them.

"Come on Michael, let's not disturb the love birds." Rick followed Michael in their series of taunts.

"Oh man, now I know how Ray feels when he's with Mariah." Hilary let out a small giggle beside him as they let go of each other. "So you guys checking out the Beyblade shops too?" Tyson asked, trying his best to change their embarrassing situation.

"Yup. Wanna go check out that Roman Coliseum with us after? I think Kai should be there too." Lee said. "I'm pretty that's where everyone's gonna end up going anyways. We might as well get some good training while we're here, right?"

"Catch me if you can!" Mariam called out as Max raced after her. She was laughing hysterically as Max panted heavily trying to catch her. "Come on slowpoke. My grandma can run faster than you!"

"Well then…you're grandma must have…some amazing steroids." Max called in between pants. "Come on, this isn't funny!"

"It is to me!" She yelled back waving a book in the air. The book was labeled 'Max's Journal'. She had found it when she was looking at all his stuff back in Enrique's mansion. Apparently he kept a journal of everything that had happened since he joined the Bladebreakers.

Mariam decided to have some more fun when she leapt up onto a tall brick wall and sat down on it, opening the book. Max jumped up and down in front of the wall trying to climb up, but it was too tall for him. Mariam had been able to jump it easily thanks to all of her training in the Saint Shields.

Note to self; ask Kai for jumping lessons the next time we're training. Max thought. He wasn't sure if it was sarcastic or not though. The thought of being able to jump a tall house was tempting. Man she's skipping to the part when we first met the Saint Shields too! What did I write that day again? Oh yeah! Oh shit…

Mariam climbed back down from the wall and threw the book in his face.

"An old bat! Is that really what you thought about me when we first met?" She was mad, to say the least. And Max knew he shouldn't have written that. He knew some day it would come back to haunt him, and this was the day.

"I'm sorry, but you were wearing that old cloak when we met, and it made you look so-"

"Oh shut up already!" Mariam yelled and slapped him across the face. He stared at her with shock as she ran away from him. After he had taken in what just happened, he bent down and picked up the journal. Yeah, the first entry was definitely harsh, but maybe he should show her what he wrote about afterwards. But then again, Mariam hated him now. She probably never wanted to see him again. And this would make things so much weirder.

"I need help." He mumbled to himself.

"Are you alright? I just saw what happened." Max turned around at the familiar voice. It was Crusher. He looked intimidating as he walked up towards him, but Max was used to that kind of presence from him. Deep down he was really a kind hearted person. The voice he had just used was soft and gentle. It made Max feel a little bit better about himself.

"I'm fine. I just never expected her to ever read that." Max replied. "I was wondering if you could give me a little advice." He said after a while.

"Well, I'm not the best when it comes to women. Maybe you should ask Enrique or Oliver instead. They seem to know what women like and don't like." He said. As if on cue, Oliver and Enrique walked up to Max with Kaya linking arms with Enrique.

"Is something the matter?" Kaya asked kindly after moving away from the teen and then to Max. "You don't look well."

"It's a long story…"

"And remember when Gary ate all of Kevin's birthday cake? Poor Kevin cried the entire time." Mariah laughed as she recalled the memory with her voice. Her sweet, beautiful voice. Ray thought, and blushed when he realized what his thoughts now lingered on.

"Kevin was still small then. And Gary was as big as ever even though we were all still so young." Ray said. "Oh, and that time when you made your first meal."

"Don't remind me." Mariah said with distaste, which made Ray frown. "It was probably the most repulsive thing I ever had in my life. Well, except for Tyson's cooking. I knew it was something like soya sauce in that punch, but I didn't think he'd be stupid enough to put it in there."

"Well, I can't say I don't agree with you about Tyson's cooking, but you shouldn't be so hard on yourself Mariah. Your cooking's always been delicious. Even the first meal you made. The reason I remembered it so well was because you made it." Ray said, although without thinking it first. Maybe it was time he learned to keep his mouth shut.

"Thank you Ray, you're the best." She said with a nice smile, and that made Ray blush. Nevermind, maybe he shouldn't learn to keep his mouth shut.

"Who'da thunk we'd all end up here, huh?" Tyson asked with a small grin stretched across his face. "Ah, the Roman Coliseum. Now all we have to do is hear the sounds of misery, a.k.a. Kai, and we're all together again!" He exclaimed like calling Kai a misery was the most normal thing for a person to do.

"Yeah, fine, whatever." Mariam sighed with a clear tone of annoyance. "Kai better show up soon 'cause it's already dark out." She said, trying to sound concerned. If not for the cracking knuckles, the gang would have fallen for it.

"Is something wrong? You've been like this for a while now you know. I mean like, weren't you happy just a couple hours ago when we left you with Max? Or did he do something to make you-"

"Shut. Up. Tyson." Hilary warned through her gritted teeth. As he spoke, Mariam grew more and more furious, and Max decided this was a good time to hide behind Crusher, who backed away after seeing Mariam head towards them…or rather, Max.

SMACK!

The sound reverberated through the entire Coliseum, and a scream was heard right after that. Everyone whipped their heads to the sound to see red light coming from somewhere in the Coliseum.

"Who would have thought Mariam could slap hard enough to wake up the Gods?" Lee joked while Max lay on the ground rubbing his red cheek. A low mumble could be heard from him now and then as his cheek throbbed in pain.

"Did you guys hear that? Or am I losing it?" Ray asked aloud.

"We heard it too." Everyone said in unison. Even Mariam and Max were now joining in with everyone else trying to figure out what it was. After the light dispersed, smoke took its place and instinctively, everyone rushed towards it immediately.

Once they arrived, Kai was seen standing where the smoke was with his blade in his hands. Everyone gaped at him when a thought occurred to them. Did Kai do this?

Their question was answered when he turned to them with as much confusion as they had. He must have been training else where and rushed to the smoke like they did.

The smoke was seeping through a large door that normally wouldn't be seen. It blended in with the walls of the Coliseum perfectly. Kai stared at the door, as did everyone else, but then something caught his attention from his pocket. Dranzer was glowing a bright red and it was almost as if she was being called into the secret chamber. The door swung open as if heeding Dranzer's call. Not sure if it was ok to enter a room filled with smoke, Oracle started to glow a beautiful emerald green from Kaya's pocket, which reassured them by glowing brighter and brighter as she descended the long staircase with her master. Kaya and Kai now held their blades in front of them, as if following the bit beasts' glow.

"This place is creepy." Hilary said. Tyson took her hand in his and led her down the dark pathway. Everyone smiled at them as they proceeded to descend down the stairs.

"Is someone there?" A weak voice called out to the group. Wide eyed and jaws dropped to the floor, they ran down the staircase faster. They knew that voice from somewhere. "Draconian, please have mercy." She cried out to the glowing tablet that lay before her. Beside her, a soulless body lay on the floor.

"Mia?"
