"That can't be right," murmured Ryou darkly, crumpling up yet another piece of paper. Sighing, he pulled his maths book under the faint light of his desk lamp to re-read the part about scientific notation.

"Hikari?"

Ryou groaned inwardly. As usual, he picks the worst moment. That's just my luck.

"Hikari"

"Yes?" answered Ryou tentatively, terrified as ever of angering his darker half. Bakura opened the door with less than his usual swagger walked over to Ryou's desk.

"The microwave…is broken," he told Ryou evasively, eyeing a mechanical pencil.

"Are you really sure-" began Ryou.

"Yes! It's broken!" snapped Bakura, glaring toward the kitchen now, "It's not working!"

"Okay," said Ryou immediately. Sighing, he marked his place in his book and followed Bakura into the kitchen. As soon as he saw the microwave, he had to hold back a grin.

"Don't worry, I know how to fix it," Ryou assured the spirit, who was looking both murderous and sheepish, as only he could manage. He opened the microwave and saw that Bakura had been trying to make popcorn. It was almost sweet, his ancient counterpart relaxing with a late night snack, possibly in front of some inane action movie.

"First of all, it's probably a good thing it didn't work because you left the wrapper on."

Bakura snorted disdainfully and crossed his arms.

"Secondly," continued Ryou, ignoring these dangerous signs, "You keep setting the timer instead of setting the cooking time."

"Ridiculous" hissed Bakura.

"What's ridiculous," said Ryou, tearing the plastic off the popcorn and laying it out flat on the try before closing the door, "Is that I've explained this to you at least ten times."

"Just microwave my popcorns," said Bakura sullenly, "Before I send you to the shadow realm."

"If you send me to the shadow realm, you may never get anyone to 'microwave your popcorns'" teased Ryou. If Bakura was going to be a petulant brat, well then, two could play at that game.

However, as Bakura looked despondently at the microwave something occurred to Ryou. He had been working on his math homework for a good hour and a half and there hadn't been a peep from the kitchen. To confirm, Ryou looked at the TV set in the adjoining sitting room. Sure enough, the screen was frozen in exactly the same place as it had been when he had started working, which meant that Bakura had most likely been struggling with the microwave the entire time.

"Wait a minute," said Ryou, formulating an idea in his head, "I think it might be… broken. Let me check the manual." As he made a show of locating the small instructional book for the appliance, Ryou noticed that Bakura had brightened considerably.

"I told you," he smirked, attempting to read over Ryou's shoulder.

"Yes you did," said Ryou, in a voice he would have used to placate a child who was having a tantrum. He turned back to the microwave and pressed a series of numbers. He then opened the door, closed it, hit 'clear', and lastly, the 'popcorn' button. As expected, the microwave worked just fine.

"It's fixed now," said Ryou, smiling at his yami.

"It better be," said Bakura darkly, though he looked satisfied as he watched the popcorn bag revolve.
