Chapter 14: Naraku Inc.
"Onigumo," he greeted with the utmost contempt in his voice.
"Sesshomaru," the man replied. "Another lawsuit? One would think you have it out for my company. Have you no heart for the little man just trying to make it in this cruel world?"
"Little?" he sneered. "I would not have to waste both our time if you simply acted within the laws." He sat down next to the company's lawyer. "Let us get this frivolous meeting over with."
An hour later the meeting was done and the Taisho team returned to their own headquarters.
"You should accept his deal Onigumo, your case will not hold up in court."
"No? Eyewitness testimonies are only so helpful. He can only prove his defense with the January trial data. Without that, there's no proof my dear Kagura."
"Do not address me that way!" She shook her head, "I'm your lawyer and only because I need your connections for Kanna. But if you continue to treat me with disrespect, I will quit like your last 7 lawyers." They both knew it would take something far more drastic for her to follow through with that threat. Seeing that she wasn't going to get a response, she continued, "As I was saying, the current evidence supports that Taisho Industries manufactured the first functioning drug and have rights to the patent. It's rather clear cut. You're lucky he's willing to settle as opposed to forcing you to owe him back your profits. Settle it at that."
He appeared unbothered, "And if we take it to court, how long will it take?"
She sighed, "Months. It's a long, expensive, and unnecessary process for a case we're going to lose."
Onigumo smiled, "then you should get started. That's what I hired you for afterall."
Seeing she was getting nowhere, Kagura just groaned in frustration, "I can't tell if you're doing this to spite Sesshomaru, or me. Whatever, just handle your end. I don't want to know the details."
"Of course, but don't worry. I'll do a little better than hired thugs with guns this time." Onigumo had always been fiercely protective of his prized company, Naraku Inc., but in the past year that ferocity had changed. No longer did he protect his company from those trying to surpass him, no, he always sought to crush others by any means necessary. Unfortunately, she was desperate enough to compromise her work and turn a blind eye. Despite being a youkai using only an illusion, she never felt the minute change in the atmosphere when his thoughts turned dark. But she had the instincts to be worried. Even she had no proof tying him to the Taisho accident, but she had her suspicions. Onigumo was only human, and he had no idea just who he'd been messing with this time.
Yet sometimes it felt like he knew too much.
AN: Needed a short chapter to introduce the 'shocking' big villain of this story. New normal length chapter should be up tomorrow though: introducing Rin.
