A/N: Post Gov Love. Serena may have come out to Jack after the case that night. Here is my take on what happened. I think Jack found out before Arthur. Also, finals are over and I have the entire weekend to write! One more semester of high school left to go! Please review. Love, Lawabidingchild.

Gay Rights

Serena stormed into Jack's office. She gave off an air of anger that was not mistaken as directed at Jack. Jack turned his swivel chair toward Serena and stared her in the eye, wondering what she wanted. Serena's gaze did not stray away from Jack's face. Jack didn't force it away. He drunk it in and waited for her to say something.

Serena opened her mouth to speak. "I hope you're proud of yourself," she scolded him.

"Not really," Jack confessed. "I'm not proud of myself."

"How do you figure, Jack?" she sneered. "You undermined Gay Rights and sent the city on a rampage. You sent a message to gays that they have less rights than heterosexual couples. Do you even understand what you did?"

Jack folded his hands neatly on his desk and stared up at her. "One sign that I'm not pleased with myself. I've managed to piss off the gay citizens of New York City. And I've made you angry. I'm sorry." He stared at you. "But I can tell that this is about more than just gay rights."

Serena rubbed her sweaty palms together. She couldn't look Jack in the eye and tell him what the issue really was. "It got a little personal Jack. Sorry."

"Personal?" asked Jack, stunned. "Do you have a gay family member or friend that tried to get married in this state?"

Serena stared at her palms. She now knew that telling him would be the worst thing that she could do at that moment. But then again, this was only about a conviction. Gay rights themselves were not the central issue. It was like the day she came out to her family all over again. She didn't know what to say and how to say it. She let Jack gawk awkwardly at her as she contemplated every single thing that she could say to him. "No. No one in my family or circle of friends is like that."

Jack cocked his head to the side a little bit to show confusion. "Then what is it, Serena?" he asked impatiently.

She opened her mouth then shut it again. When she opened her mouth again, she asked the question, "Do you have a problem with gay people, Jack?"

His answer took her by surprise. "No, I don't," said Jack, still impatiently waiting for an explanation. "Why are you asking me this?"

"Because I'm...I'm a...a..." she hesitated.

"A what, Serena?" he asked impatiently.

"I'm a...a lesbian," she said hesitantly.

Jack didn't react like she thought he would. She expected him to jump out of his chair and be disgusted at the sight of her. When she didn't get that reaction, she stared at him peculiarly. "Yes, Jack, I'm a lesbian."

"Huh," breathed Jack, still stunned. "I never expected that from you, but then again, it's not like you're wearing a label."

Serena stared awkwardly at her boss. She couldn't believe the words that came out of her mouth, but the reaction from Jack was so surprising that she couldn't help but back out of the office. "I'm just gonna...go, okay?"

"Okay?" said Jack standing up, trying to catch her before she bolted from the room. He slung an arm around her shoulder. "You know that took a lot of guts, right?" asked Jack. "And if you're a hetero or homosexual, I don't care. It was the case Serena. It was only the case. This doesn't change our relationship whatsoever."

"Good," whispered Serena.

"So are we...?" began Jack.

"Yeah, Jack," she said, chuckling slightly, "we're good."
