Thank you so much for all of the lovely reviews that you have been leaving! It means so much! I seem to be on quite a roll with these (sure it won't last long) but thank you so much for keeping me busy with all your fab ideas.
This prompt was requested by Emtherese, thank you so much for requesting. Really hope you all enjoy!
Although she was only a week in, Amy was finding the start of her third trimester exhausting. She had never known a tiredness like it, her whole body felt drained and by the end of the day she was finding that it required all the energy she had left to put one foot in front of the other. She was even struggling to keep her eyes open on the drive home but she decided against telling Sheldon about that.
Pushing open the door to her apartment, ready to just crash for the evening, she was surprised to find Sheldon already home. He was stood in the kitchen, a dish towel draped over his shoulder, his back to Amy who was unsure he even knew she was home.
"Hey" she spoke as she threw her keys into the bowl they kept by the front door, the metal keys clattering against the glass. "This is a nice surprise. How come your home so early?" she asked, he was always a few hours behind her.
"Hi" he spun round to face her, his face a little flushed from the heat of whatever it was he was cooking. "Well, I thought I would leave early and cook you dinner, you've been so tired lately" he wasn't going to tell her that it was Leonard that had told him that he needed to take care of her and cook her dinner once in a while.
"Oh well this is really lovely" she smiled, knowing that she now didn't have to cook dinner suddenly gave her a little bit of energy. "Thank you" she scooted her way round the island in the kitchen and wrapped her arms around him, now that her bump was growing bigger hugging him and people in general was becoming increasingly difficult. "What are you making?" she asked taking a peek into the saucepan.
"I thought I'd do spaghetti bolognese" he knew the simple dish was one of Amy's favourites. "It's about the only thing I can manage" he added.
"Well, I appreciate it all the same" she pushed herself up on to her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. "Do I have time for a quick nap?" she asked. "I'm exhausted"
"Sure" Amy kissed him one last time before making her way over to the couch, where she let her body sink into the soft fabric as she closed her eyes and for the first time that day, truly let herself relax.
The sound of Sheldon clattering around in the kitchen and the sizzling of the pan were noises she actually found extremely comforting. A reflection of her life now, a life that she never thought she would have. It had been three years and she still couldn't quite believe she had a husband. Growing up she was just like the other young girls that would dream about their wedding day, what would her dress be like? Where would they get married? Would they have a big party? She had imagined it all. Then one day it all just stopped, stopped because she realised that she actually wasn't like the other girls at all. She was interested in different things, she dressed a certain way and most definitely guys did not look at her and fall head over heels like they did with every other girl at her high school.
If she could go back and get that very same young Amy to look at the life she had now, she'd be amazed. Married to the love of her life with their first little baby very much on the way wiggling around inside of her. She knew there was no such thing as the perfect life, sure their apartment could be bigger, LA could be a little less expensive, they could have started this whole family journey a little sooner but as she drifted off to sleep she was content enough to believe that this came pretty close to their idea of perfection.
"Amy, are these cooked I..." Sheldon asked, spinning himself round to speak to Amy however, he smiled to himself when he saw her curled up on the sofa sound asleep. It had only been a few moments since she had left him in the kitchen but already she was out like a light.
Abandoning the vegetables, he made his way over the couch and draped a blanket over her. Although, he knew the pregnancy made her rather hot, it was a dark winters evening and the last thing he wanted was for Amy to grow cold.

"This smells so good" Amy smiled, glancing down at the plate Sheldon had placed down in front on her. The spaghetti and sauce piled rather high on her plate, Sheldon was always asking her about what she was eating and how much, he was more conscious than she was of making sure both she and the baby were staying healthy. It was incredibly sweet, really.
"I hope it tastes good. I put all the vegetables that we had in the sauce" Amy knew that was in reference to what they had been eating the last few nights. With Amy being as tired as she was and Sheldon working late they had settled for take out more times than they'd care to admit.
"I already love it. Thank you" she flashed him a smile before tucking in, if she was being honest some of the vegetables could have been cooked for a little bit longer but she appreciated the sentiment so much. "I spoke to your mother today" she revealed over dinner.
"You did?" it still surprised how much Amy and his mother got a long, he loved that they had a great relationship but it still took some getting used to to know at times she would rather speak to Amy than him.
"Yeah, she just wanted to make sure everything was still okay for her visit this weekend" Amy explained, that was really the purpose of Mary's call but like the excited grandmother to be, talk of course turned to the baby. "We got talking about the baby and she told me some old wives tales we could use to find out the baby's gender" Amy explained as she ate another mouthful of pasta.
"I didn't think you wanted to know" it had been possibly their biggest disagreement so far throughout the pregnancy. At Amy's 20 week scan Sheldon insisted on finding out the gender, he simply needed to know and wanted to feel as prepared as possible. Amy on the other hand wanted a surprise, claiming that this was one of the only genuine surprises you ever got in life. She had won the argument.
"I don't, but it's fun just to try isn't it" Sheldon just shrugged, he really couldn't understand what was fun about simply guessing when they could easily find out by calling their doctor. "She said there's this one thing you can do where if you stare into a mirror for a minute and your pupils dilate, then that means you're having a boy" she explained. "She also swears by the ring test, apparently that worked with all three of you"
Sheldon rolled his eyes. "Do you really believe that hippie dippie nonsense" he asked, he was sure Amy never fell for that sort of thing.
"No, but she's just so excited Sheldon" Amy put down her cutlery and sat back in her chair, her hand resting upon the side of her stomach as she grimaced.
"Are you okay?" Sheldon asked quickly, his eyes on her, scanning her body for any indication that something was wrong. The tiniest grumble of pain from Amy sent Sheldon's heart racing.
"I'm good" she breathed out. "Just got a pretty hard kick to the ribs" she rubbed at the spot, trying to calm the very wiggly baby inside her. Upon getting validation that she was okay, she saw him instantly relax, she couldn't begin to imagine how nervous and worked up he would be when she finally went into labour. "They've been super wriggly recently" Amy explained, continuing to rub her bump.
"That's a good thing isn't it?" Sheldon asked. Surely they needed to worry if the baby stopped moving.
"It is" she agreed. "But I think things are getting pretty cramped in there so I'm constantly getting kicked in the ribs" she sighed. She wasn't complaining, not all, she loved feeling her little baby move and kick, it was all comforting and reassuring.
"You know they say that the kicks in the third trimester are linked to the baby's brain development" Sheldon explained. Every step of Amy's pregnancy he had researched, if he couldn't help her or take her pain away he could at least explain the science behind everything. The science that she already knew but refrained from voicing because his interest on the subject was just the cutest thing.
"And there was me thinking they were just enjoying their daddy's spaghetti" Amy smiled.

Amy retreated to the bedroom not long after dinner, she had tried to help Sheldon clear the table and wash the dishes but he insisted that she needed to take it easy and rest. There was a part of her that felt a little guilty for not spending time with him, prior to the pregnancy their evenings would be spent together, watching a movie, taking a walk, or simply just being with one another. Now, all Amy seemed to do was sleep and she was conscious that their time as just a couple was limited.
Even though it had been her intention to simply read and relax until Sheldon joined her, she quickly found herself falling asleep. She fell into a deep slumber, not even stirring when Sheldon entered the room or carefully climbed into bed next to her.
It was 2am when Sheldon woke due to Amy's restlessness. This was quite a regular occurrence, as the pregnancy progressed she was finding it increasingly harder to find a position that brought her comfort. Also contending with the constant wiggles and kicks meant that her sleep was pretty restless.
Sleep wasn't her main problem at the moment though, she was currently having a huge craving. Throughout her pregnancy, her cravings had come and go however, when they hit it was overwhelming, she couldn't rest or settle until the craving had been fulfilled.
"Amy, can you not sleep?" Sheldon asked, his voice startling Amy who up until now had no idea he was awake. He often wasn't happy nor did he cope very well with his sleep schedule being disturbed, it sure would be interesting once the baby came along. Maybe all of this was good practise.
"I'm really craving something" she admitted, pushing herself up in bed, something that now required a lot of effort. Sheldon knew what this meant, he knew how Amy needed to satisfy her craving before doing anything else, even sleeping. He had been known to rustle up something for her during the early hours of the morning or stop off on his way home from work to pick up the most random food combinations.
"What is it this time?" Sheldon asked through a yawn, as he to sat up in bed and flicked on his bedside light.
"I need fries and a strawberry milkshake" she replied. "I want to dip my fries in the milkshake" she laughed a little at the unusualness of the food combination, normally she would crinkle her nose at the idea of fries dipped in strawberry milkshake but right now, after never eating this before it was simply what her body demanded.
"But it's 2am" he sighed, he really was trying his hardest to be understanding but it was extremely difficult at this hour.
"I know, but it's what the baby wants"
"I highly doubt the baby wants fries and milkshake" he told her very matter of fact, Amy knew he was annoyed at being woken up.
"Please" she flashed him a smile but she knew it wasn't really going to work. He was trying his hardest but Amy knew he was pretty annoyed. "It's only two minutes away."
"You really want me to do this?" Sheldon asked sighing, she couldn't be serious, it was 2am, did she really expect him to venture out at this time.
"I'm really sorry. I wouldn't ask if I wasn't really desperate" whatever he felt in that moment suddenly disappeared when he looked into Amy's eyes. Instantly he could see how tired and desperate she was, she was already doing the best and hardest job in the world by growing their little baby, if all she needed him to do was go and get her some food, well then that was just a small task in comparison.
"You're ridiculous, do you know that?" the smile on his face told Amy that he was only being playful as he pulled the duvet back by and rose to his feet.
—
"Oh my goodness, this is so good" Amy announced as she dipped yet another fry into her strawberry milkshake. Never did she imagine that she would be doing this at 2.30 in the morning but pregnancy did very strange things to you.
"I can't believe you're doing that" Sheldon muttered, looking at her rather disapprovingly.
"You should try this. It's amazing" she pushed the packet of fries towards him however, he politely declined. Although, he found Amy's new dipping sauce rather gross, the happiness it brought her surprisingly made him feel just as happy. "Thank you so much for this, I love you so much" she really meant every word, she loved him with her whole heart, he was already showing her that he would do everything he could for her and their unborn baby and she already knew he would be the best father.
Thank you so much for reading. As always reviews are always appreciated and so very welcome.
