Hi lovely readers,
Thank you all so much for the reviews on the last chapter, it means the world that you all stilltake the time to read and review my stories.
This prompt was requested by fluffyreadsnow. It took me a while to get the ball rolling with this one so apologies for the wait. Once I started writing, I absolutely loved it so thank you so much for requesting. I really hope it's okay for you all.
As this is set in the future, I just wanted to say that my timeline for Amy and Sheldon is a little different to that on the show in the sense that they did a lot of things (marriage and babies) that bit earlier but I hope it all comes across clearly in this.
Enjoy reading!
Twenty years was an incredible amount of time. Two decades, 240 months and 7,300 days. For Amy, this time had gone by in the blink of an eye, she could remember everything about that day. Penny letting slip that she was the murderer in the crazy game Raj had probably spent ages putting together, the panic stricken phone call she had received from Sheldon when he caught his mother with another man and the reason why she was stood here right now. The pact that she and her friends had made which stated regardless of what life threw at them, that no matter where they were or what direction their lives had gone in that twenty years from now they would meet outside the Los Robes apartment building.
Like most people in the room on that day, Amy assumed the day would pass by and no one would bat an eye or think anything of it. However, Amy forgot who she was married to and the date was etched into Sheldon's eidetic memory forever. He was the one that wrote it on their calendar when the year finally rolled in, the one who sent emails to everyone involved on January 1st so they to could put it into their diaries, as well as monthly reminders. It was actually comforting for everyone to know that at nearly fifty years old, Sheldon Cooper had not changed.
Amy looked up at the building, her eyes instantly fell on the window of apartment 4A as if they had been trained to land there. The apartment had been where Sheldon was living with Leonard when she first met him, never in her wildest dreams did she think then that one day she would be living across the hall with him. It was crazy to believe it had been over ten years since a heavily pregnant Amy, Sheldon and their three year old daughter left this place with heavy hearts. It was only now they were back that Amy remembered just how many amazing times they had here, like the apartment had unlocked a treasure trove of wonderful memories.
"Where are they?" Sheldon muttered anxiously, tapping his foot against the pavement, he had always hated lateness.
"We're fifteen minutes early" Amy tried to reason with him. After fifteen years of marriage she was quite the expert at his now. "Hey" she grabbed hold of his arm and gestured up the window she had just been staring at, lost in memories from a time gone by. "Look, apartment 4A" she smiled sweetly. He still absolutely loved her smile.
"Are you getting nostalgic?" he asked glancing down at her. It really didn't take a lot for Amy to take a trip down memory lane, she grew nostalgic over so many things. A little thing that triggered something from her childhood, something from when they first met or something that the kids did when they were little. It was silly of Sheldon to assume today would be any different.
"Yeah, so many things happened here Sheldon" she told him, waiting for any kind of reaction. She cuddled closer to him, "you told me you loved me in that apartment" she smiled sweetly. It may have been close to twenty years ago but she could remember that day so clearly. The prom, her dress, his suit, dancing with him and feeling giddy with expectations of the night ahead, she never once thought it would end with him declaring his love for her. "It's where we found out we were going to be parents, the first and second time, where we brought Em back to, where she took her first steps" she reeled off numerous events.
"You're wrong" Sheldon announced once she'd finished, she looked up at him, for a brief moment confusion etched upon her face. "They all happened in 4B not 4A" Amy rolled her eyes and playfully slapped his chest.
Life before children was interesting, a period of time when you don't quite realise just how much freedom and lack of responsibly you have. Being here brought all of that back for Amy, that moment of finally feeling wanted and loved and being able to live the life she'd always wanted. All that said, she wouldn't go back, not forever at least. Her children had brought her more happiness, love and purpose than she'd ever known, she wouldn't change any of that for the world. She was about ask Sheldon the same question when she saw a car pull up in front of them. She knew instantly from the small frame and long, blonde, wavy hair that it was Howard and Bernadette.
As the years had passed they had all kept in regular contact. Sure, the contact wasn't as regular as daily take out dinners at each other's place but they always tried to make time for each other. With Sheldon and Leonard still working together and Amy and Penny still very much the best of friends, a week never went by without the four of them getting together.
"Hey" Bernadette smiled as she got out of the car and tightly embraced Amy. It had been a few months since they had last seen each other but it was as easy as ever to pick up where they left off. "Are we late? I'm sorry if we're late, we had to drop Michael off at hockey practice" she moved across and enveloped Sheldon into a one armed hug. Sheldon was still pretty averse to hugging people however, these people were like family and he knew in these situations hugging was socially appropriate.
"No, you're not late at all" Amy reassured them. "We're just incredibly early as always"
"See, I told you" Howard told Bernadette, Amy knew them well enough to know that there would have definitely been some bickering on the way here. By now Howard had locked up the car and he too quickly hugged the couple. "Does it feel weird being back here? It feels strange doesn't if?" he asked stuffing his hands into his pockets. Penny and Leonard were the last to leave this apartment almost ten years ago, just a few short months after Amy and Sheldon. Since that very day, no one had ever gone back, not for any other reason other than just simply being too busy.
"Amy was being nostalgic" Sheldon told them, rolling his eyes.
"Why do I suddenly feel like it's twenty years ago" Howard laughed at his friend and how he never once changed.
"Hey, this is important to us too" Bernadette scolded. "We got married on that roof" Howard and Bernadette's wedding had been such a quick affair that Amy had almost forgotten that very detail.
"I guess a lot happened on that roof" Sheldon agreed. "It would have some stories to tell" Amy looked over at him and smiled, now who was being nostalgic.
"You know, I can't believe we've never brought the kids here. I guess they both have memories here but now that they're older" Bernadette shrugged. It was funny to Amy that they still referred to Halley and Michael as the kid, Halley was almost eighteen years old, nearly an adult herself. She couldn't quite believe that.
"I'm sure they'd love that" Amy told them.
"Have you ever taken the kids to the Athenaeum?" Bernadette asked.
"We took Em a few times when she was younger, she used to be so interested in it all. She's now at the age where breathing the same air as your parents is completely uncool" she laughed. "And I really don't think Arthur could care less" Amy loved her children dearly but she would love to go back to when they were little to when they were so enthralled and excited by the simplest thing. It was truly magical.

As Amy glanced down the large rectangular table where they had been sat at the restaurant of Sheldon's choice. She felt her heart warm with happiness. It must have been years since they had all been together when she thought about it, she figured the last time would have been at Raj's wedding almost six years ago. She never wanted it to be that long again.
After Raj's failed engagement to Anu, he gave his parent one last shot at setting him up and into his life walked Ashvi. She was beautiful, funny, kind and loved a musical just as much as he did, she was everything he wanted in a partner and so much more. Everyone around him could see just how happy she made him and that alone made everyone in their friendship group fall in love with her. She wonderful and absolutely perfect for Raj. They had married rather quickly and despite being married now for over six years, babies just weren't to be for them.
It saddened Amy to know that Raj would never get to be a father, he was the most amazing uncle to the kids and she knew how much they all adored him. Both he and Ashvi lived an amazing, rather lavish lifestyle but they were happy so unbelievably happy to Amy that was by far the most important thing.
Stuart and Denise were here too, they had never married but had surprisingly been blessed with twin boys in their early forties. This came as quite the shock to everyone but at six years old the boys were just delightful and when they got together really got along well with Arthur.
They still had their comic book store in Pasedena somewhere where the guys would still enjoy hanging out but they had since moved to San Francisco and opened up a more stores. Considering for a good chunk of time Stuart lived with Howard and Bernadette he was now doing pretty well for himself.
"I want to make a toast" Leonard announced as he rose to his feet, holding his glass in the air. The chatter and clatter of cutlery all stopped, he now had everyones undivided attention. "Thank you everyone for coming today and thank you to Sheldon for making sure that since January 1st no one forget about it" Sheldon nodded rather proudly. "I can't quite believe twenty years has gone by since our little pact was made. In that time we've become husbands and wives, mothers and fathers and all gotten that bit older. I guess the one constant though has been everyone sat round this table, it makes me very proud of us all to know that so much time has gone and yet we're all still the same. I love you guys and here's to another twenty years" Leonard raised his glass a little higher as did everyone else, joining him in the toast of their friendship.
"Statistically, it's quite possible some of us won't be here in twenty years" Sheldon muttered leaning across the table to tell Amy.
"Sheldon, stop" she playfully kicked him under the table, when he looked up at her with a little twinkle in his eye, it made her heart feel all giddy. Still even after twenty years he managed to make her feel like an excited little girl.
"Have you heard from the kids?" he asked. For today they had been left with Amy's parents although, they had had numerous arguments with Emily who insisted she was old enough to stay home and take care of herself and her brother. She was a sensible kid but neither Amy or Sheldon thought she was ready, maybe they were being over cautious, they very protective parents, especially Sheldon.
Amy shook her head but quickly reached into her handbag for her phone where she was greeted with a message from her daughter.
Em: When are you coming to pick us up? I'm soooooo bored!
"Oh look" she laughed turning her phone to show Sheldon the message. "She's having the time of her life."

There was something very comforting about being at home and knowing your children were safely tucked away in their rooms, whether they were sleeping or not, just knowing that they were there brought a feeling of contentment over Amy. She had always been this way, right from they were little.
"You know, I really, really enjoyed today" she spoke from where she was sitting up in bed, Sheldon beside her reading as she was scrolling through the endless amounts of photos Penny had sent her. "It so nice to finally get everyone together again"
"I enjoyed myself too" Sheldon placed his book down on his night stand.
"You did?"
"Of course" he nodded.
"Can I ask you something? she placed her phone down and turned her attention to him, watching as he thoughtfully nodded. "Do you ever wish you could go back? You know back to when we were in our twenties and didn't have any children?" she had been intrigued to know his answer ever since the idea popped into her head.
He sighed. "It was a pretty good time wasn't it" he smiled and Amy saw how his eyes lit up. "But I don't think I'd give up what we have now" he threw his arm around her and Amy immediately took comfort in resting her head against his chest. "You and the kids are everything to me"
"I love you" she gazed up at him and placed a gentle kiss to his cheek. Sure, he had changed in twenty years but in that very moment he was the Sheldon she had fallen in love with all those years ago.
Thank you for so much for reading. As always yours reviews are always welcome and so appreciated. I love hearing your thoughts.
I have been sent a request by a guest and I just wanted your opinions on it as it would be different/very similar to what I have written before. It was based on a current storyline in Call Me Kat (never watched the show before so would have to clue myself up). The general jist would be that Amy would embark on having a baby via sperm donor and after some time Sheldon would offer to do this for her. They wouldn't be a couple though just good friends. I think this would have to be a fic as opposed to a chapter on here. Let me know your thoughts.
Stay safe
Lots of love
