WARNING: their will be some racism in this chapter at the Tryouts.
Full Court Pass Chapter 8
Thursday 2028
I was practicing for tryouts, which were in a few hours. And I was nervous that I wouldn't make it to the NBA or my dream team. So many thoughts raced through my head.
What if I'm not good enough?
What if I don't make it?
And the worse one was this:
What if the NBA or the Los Angeles LAKERS didn't accept me because I wasn't human?
I couldn't sleep last night because I was so afraid of what others might think of having an alien on their team.
I made another basket. But instead of making it. It bounced off the rim. I sighed, I've been missing basket after basket for the last two hours.
I opened the large back door and walked inside. I then closed it. Sasha was still asleep. I walked upstairs, and the door to our bedroom was closed. I opened it and I saw her.
My soon-to-be wife was still sleeping in bed. I smiled and walked into the bathroom, closed the door, and turned on the water.
I stepped out of the bathroom, went into our closet, and picked out some clothes.
I stopped what I was doing and looked over to Sasha who was still sleeping. I walked over and kissed her head, Sasha fluttered open her eyes.
"Hey…" She said yawning
I smiled and kissed her
"Morning.." I said as I walked up to the window and pulled the curtains back, revealing the view of Los Angeles.
Sasha sat up and stretched. I looked at her and smiled. Sasha was three weeks now.
I walked up to her and kissed my Fiancé.
Sasha kissed me.
"I love you, Chet." she smiled.
"I love you too, Sasha." I smiled and continued kissing her
Sasha pulled me to the bed and she kissed me passionately. Moving her lips to my neck.
"Mmmmm. I love you so much, Sasha." I said as I moaned out. I pulled back, I looked into her eyes and she looked into mine. It was a nice silence between us, then one of us spoke.
"Want me to help you with breakfast?" Sasha asked
"That will be great." I smiled and kissed her again
Sasha smiled and got out of bed. I saw her walk into the bathroom.
I was now in the kitchen, I went to the fridge and I realized that we didn't buy any food since we moved in yesterday.
"Hey, Sasha? Are you okay with going out for breakfast? We don't have food in the house."
"Sure, Chet. we can do that."
I smiled, I waited for her and we both went out for breakfast.
A few hours later, I was driving to the NBA stadium where tryouts were being held. Sasha was by my side for support.
I parked our car and got out, and Sasha did too.
We both walked inside. A man wearing a t-shirt and shorts walks up to me and Sasha.
"Hello, you must be Ratchet Davis Jr, correct?"
I smiled and then shook his hand
"Yes sir, I am."
They gave me my practice jersey to play with
I couldn't believe that I was here…
I remember sitting courtside at countless LAKERS games with my parents and brother.
The first LAKERS game my parents took me to was when I was four months old.
Now I was standing on the court and I watched them win countless games.
I started and showed him what I could do.
I was playing on an NBA basketball court
And it didn't matter to them if I wasn't human.
They measured my height, weight, and wingspan.
It was now time to show them what A Lombax could do on a basketball court. Not any court, this was for the NBA.
We started doing running drills and warm-ups, and the coach was impressed, I was the fastest runner there, next to this man named Chris.
We start with a game. It was going to be a three-on-three game.
My team had two guys that were my age.
The first man's name was Daniel–He seems like a nice dude. But the second man, Justin.
He didn't like me so much it seems. Justin glared at me. After a moment of silence, Justin spoke to me.
"Why won't you go back to your planet, Alien!" he said.
I was very surprised by this statement. This hasn't happened since…
Since Steven was in High school.
I sighed, put on a fake smile, and stood there.
Like an idiot…
Sasha noticed this, got up, and walked up to the coach.
"Are you the coach?" she asked.
Oh no…
Then, I saw Justin get called up.
I looked and the coach said something, justin walked up to me and glared at me again, he then pulled on my jersey.
"This is all your fault you cat thing! You caused my chances with the NBA! You should've stayed on your planet, you Extra Terrestrial!"
I was shocked to even hear that, it took me all the courage I had not to hit this whacko!
"Get out of here, Justin!" Daniel said.
"Get out of here!" my Fiancé said.
Justin looked at all of us, but he glared at me the third time.
"I will get you, you freak!"
That was the final thing he said to me, before storming off in anger.
I shook it off and kept playing.
Then, it was a five against five. I and five others got to wear my jersey, the other five wore black.
The game was intense as we were all trying to get a spot on the team.
We played two games, it was over, I think I did pretty well.
I walked up to the coach.
"Do you think I did well?" on a scale from one to ten, how good was I?"
"Well–" the coach started.
"You did incredible! Even for a Lombax, I love your dad's games!" he said, enthusiastically.
"Awesome! What's your favorite game?" I asked.
"A Crack In Time, Up Your Arsenal and the reboot."
"Cool, what about Rift Apart?" I asked.
"I got it a couple of months ago and I love it! My favorite character has to be Rivet"
"Cool! So, will I get a call? What do you guys do after we try out?" I asked.
He explained to me that I would be called.
"Thank you so much, Coach Tompson, And thank you for booting Justin."
"No problem, Ratchet the NBA is a judgment-free zone. No matter if you're a different race, religion, or from a different planet several thousand lightyears away, we just want to see how good the player is, we do not accept those types of people here!" he explained to me.
I smiled at him for that.
"Thank you so much, coach. Tompson." I said, shaking his hand again.
THREE WEEKS LATER
I was playing PlayStation in the Gameroom, then my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is this Ratchet Davis Jr?"
"Yes."
"Congratulations, you just got drafted to the 2028 NBA draft!"
I couldn't believe what I was hearing!–
"T-Thank you!" I said about to cry.
I then hung up and posted to my Twitter, It blew up within minutes. Even Insomniac Games congratulated me. I was so happy!
I wish this was a dream but it wasn't
I went to bed that night in very high spirits. The draft doesn't start until June twenty-third, Sonic The Hedgehog's birthday.
Notes: Wow! This took a LONG time to write. I am very happy with how this chapter turned out so far!
