Victoire

As he was sitting in the waiting room, he observed his family. Only a year ago, they fought together and lost Fred. And now they were here, gathered for the birth of the newest Weasley.

His mother looked like a wreck, whether it was the date and memories that got the best of her or it was simply the nervousness for her first grandchild, he wasn't sure. She looked very excited anyhow.

His father sat with his head back and his eyes closed, he looked suddenly so old to him. "You okay, Dad?" George asked. "What? Oh, yes, sure. Just tired, we have been flooded with owls this week" said dad when he jumped up, apparently he had almost been sleeping.

Ginny and Ron were quietly killing time by playing wizard's chess. Ginny was the only one with the slightest chance of winning against Ron, since she had to play with him when they were kids. They both looked rather pale and a little lonely, since both their partners had decided that today was a day for real family.

Percy was working on a report and from time to time he gave the odd comment to help Ginny. He looked calm, but George knew better. Percy hadn't even touched the map on his knees in the twenty minutes that George had started observing. Percy wasn't the kind of person to deal with the tension in the room.

Charlie still had to arrive, he had been working with a rather large dragon when Bill had let him know the good news. Bill himself was inside with his wife, probably holding her hand. When George had seen him earlier, he was as white as a sheet and looked ready to pass out. He couldn't imagine that he would really come in handy in the room where the occasional scream or French curse came out.

George himself was rather calm considering the day, he was actually very proud of himself to have pulled it together so well for the sake of his family.

While he was pondering all that, the door suddenly burst open and Bill stormed out, eyes wide with excitement. "It's a girl, I've got a baby girl. I'm a father!" Everybody jumped up to congratulate him, report and chess match instantly forgotten.

Everybody went in the room to look at the youngest Weasley. The first thing George saw was Fleur, looking tired but still amazingly gorgeous, with a little pink bundle in her arms.

As the baby was passed and cooed over, George suddenly realised that this was really a step in the happy direction. You can't be mopy and sad around babies. And then the bundle was pushed into his arms. It was the prettiest baby he had ever seen. She had that cute glow that all babies have, combined with a little hint of Veela magic. She was absolutely irresistible, no one could ever hate this adorable little kiddie, his niece. Her nose looked exactly like her mums and her mouth was definitely a Weasley one. Then she opened her eyes and he saw that they had the exact same shape as Bills, as his, as Freds...

He had to swallow a few times to be able to talk, but he managed to ask:" What are you going to call her?" Fleur answered:"Victoire. It meenz victory in French" "We thought that was fitting" Bill added.

And George Weasley smiled. The first real, genuine, heartfelt smile in a whole year, because of this little bundle in his arms. Already he knew that his life would be much brighter with her, his niece, in it.

Young Victoire Weasley, who managed to do in two seconds what no one fully had accomplished in a year, would from now on be the light in his life.
