I do not own Casualty or any of the characters.

Nita sat on the edge of the hospital roof, the strong breeze tugging at her hair. She looked down at all the cars, all the people. They looked like ants; all rushing around, not wasting a single second. So why was she hesistating?

She thought back to that first night, when her mum was at work and she was home alone with her dad. He had noone to turn on. So he turned on her instead.

She was curled up on her bed, listening to music and actually doing homework for once. Her long brown hair was thrown back into a ponytail. Suddenly, her dad burst in at the door, throwing it back with such force that it hit the wall and left a mark on the purple paint. The fury in his eyes terrified her, and suddenly she knew how her mum felt. There was nowhere to hide, nowhere to go...

She still got nightmares from the memories. How he'd dragged at her hair, burst her lip. She'd thrown the clothes away, so her mum wouldn't find out. She still had the bruises on her stomach, where he'd hit her repeatedly, again and again until she collapsed on the floor, a crying mess.

Tears were streaming down her face at the memory, and she gently touched one of the bruises, wincing slightly as her icy fingers made contact with the still-tender flesh.

She knew he'd do it again. Except now it wasn't just her he'd be hurting. It was a secret she'd kept for nearly a month, gradually drawing back with fear until she barely spoke to anyone. Because anyone she spoke to could tell him.

She knew who the father was, though. She shouldn't have got drunk, maybe he wouldn't have tried to punish her, maybe she wouldn't be pregnant. Too many 'maybe's.

One thing she was sure of, though, he'd kill her if he ever found out.

Her hands wandered absent-mindedly to her stomach, gently cradling the bump that was starting to become obvious. She couldn't have kept it hidden for much longer anyway.

She'd left her mum a note, pinned to the back of her locker where she would definately find it. Not until the end of her shift though.

Nita shuffled closer to the edge, watching the sun gradually disappear over the horizon, the sky a brilliant rainbow of colours. She took a deep breath, glancing down at the ground below again.

It was a long way down. Just long enough. Shaking, she pushed herself over the edge.

The wind played havoc with her hair, and in those few seconds her entire life flashed before her eyes.

And then nothing. There was no going back.

Really short, really morbid one-shot. And.. Well I'm not even sure where it came from really :L
