I don't own digimon.

Story 26

Won't get fooled again

From her limited perspective, Lunamon couldn't believe what her eyes dared to show her. This was blasphemy of the highest degree. She had known that Lindsey was more than capable of doing such a thing, but to see her actually commit it was on a whole different level.

"What could've gotten into you since I left?" she thought, trying her hardest to remain hidden from this precarious spot. Why did the forces controlling this see fit to drop her near a ledge of all places? There had to be better places she could've been placed without putting her in danger. But she pushed that thought to the back of her mind and continued to watch. Currently, a woman was working on a laptop. Fingers whizzing across the keyboard, there's the occasional glance to a second woman. Occasionally striking poses, were they the first woman's reference material. Probably. Why else would she go through the trouble of touching and sometimes holding hands. Whichever one of these was Lindsay was going to get a serious talking too from once she got down there. Lunamon was absolutely sure of it. So what if she was much shorter than both of these women. What she lacked in height, the rookie digimon made up for in heart. At least, that was what she told herself. Whether she could actually pull this off remained to be seen. The jump alone was quite a lot farther than initial examinations made it look like. Even then, a large creature of sorts would sometimes open the window. What

"Give me an opening." the rookie digimon muttered, doing her best to look for something to throw in the direction of the window. Sadly, Lunamon could find nothing in the way of a rock or other object of sorts. Even if she could, her throwing arm was absolutely jack. Even if her projectile did hit, the monster would likely show up and then eat her. Would make Lindsey an absolute awful partner though. But she came close to crossing that line by letting a monster of all things into their home. If Lindsey gave her a good answer, Lunamon was willing to look past that. But not the other woman. Clearly she and Lindsey had something going on. But what exactly, the rookie digimon wasn't particularly certain of. Obviously she needed to spend more time observing. "There has to be a way down there."

Looking about her surroundings, Lunamon tried to figure out a way down. While jumping to her destination was very much out of the question, there was no one telling her that she couldn't at least jump down. What was the worst that could happen? Probably landing face first or getting stuck. Better than getting eaten by a monster and never getting to see Lindsey again.

Staring over the edge, Lunamon took a moment to compose herself. Letting out a deep breath, she swung her hand forward. That was all it took for her to go over the edge. Falling through the air relatively, Lunamon did her best to straighten herself out to land on her feet. The result… was acceptable. She didn't land on her face, but her feet would've been a far more preferable outcome here.

"Let's see now." she thought and dusted herself off. Looking about, Lunamon's gaze found its way to the door. Slowly making her way over, she took care to look out for any monsters. Beyond just the one, Lunamon could say with certainty that she had not seen any others. Those could easily be in part of the home that she couldn't see. But she pushed that thought to the back of her mind as the door came into view. Quite higher than she remembered it being, this obstacle could be overcome. Hopefully.

"Here goes nothing." Lunamon thought and squatted down. Concentrating all energy into her legs, she jumped up at the doorbell. Coming within inches of her goal, she flailed about in the air. This time, it was her face that hit the porch. "Ugh."

Taking a moment to dust herself off, Lunamon's gaze found its way back to the door. Somehow taller and imposing than it had been mere moments before, she would just have to keep fighting. Regardless of said 'fight' devolving into hitting the barrier with her hands. That usually works here. But here, all it managed to accomplish was nothing. Neither Lindsey, the other woman or the monster. Someone had to have heard that… right? They couldn't have gone deaf. Unless that was the result of the monster. She could very much see that. Lunamon wasn't going to stop though. Not until someone answered her. She didn't care who or what it was for that matter. Long as she got into this home, that was the only thing that really mattered to the rookie digimon.

"Do you think the package finally arrived?" a voice announced and Lunamon looked about. Eventually, her gaze came upon a woman. Dressed in what looked to be a rainbow-colored top and tan pants, a set of cerulean eyes set against faded brown locks stared down at her. "Lindsey, did you order a cute little plush?"

Lunamon looked about. She needed an escape route. A fast one, too. Or would've, if not for the hands of the woman scooping her up and bringing the rookie digimon up to the light.

"Could you please take me to Lindsey?" Lunamon announced as she fudgeted within this woman's grip. For a brief moment, she could make out a wedding band. That couldn't mean what she was thinking that it meant. Impossible. She had to be in some kind of strange dream world. Or maybe not.

"Lindsey, the plush wants to talk to you!" the woman announced and got what sounded like a response back. Not that Lunamon was able to catch what was spoken. Not that she needed too, the woman setting her back down. Lindsey was hopefully on her way ov-

Or would've been, if not for the fact that the monster of all things came into view. A wyvern, the wingspan alone was enough to snap her up and split her in half. Gray scales were on full display, a set of yellow lenses bouncing about the area. Settling on Lunamon, what looked to be a tail swung about behind them. Yet, something about this monster felt… kind. Not that Lunamon could put her finger on what it was or really was. Maybe because it felt familiar to her. Yeah. That was probably it. Just raised further questions in her head. Why did this monster feel familiar? Why hadn't either of those feelings come to her earlier?

"Rawr!" the wyvern announced and waved their wings forward in a hugging motion. At least, that was what it looked like from Lunamon's perspective. Didn't come close to lifting the rookie digimon up.

"Oh right. You probably need some help to get the head off." the woman explained and made her way over. Lifting up at the wyvern's head, a woman wearing a balaclava stared down at Lunamon. Locks of strawberry blonde just peak through from her head covering, going surprisingly well with the forest green eyes staring at her. "Better now, Lindsey?"

Lindsey nodded, doing her best to bend down to meet her partner. For a brief moment, Lunamon swore she could just make out a digivice decked out with all sorts of childish stickers. Yes, this was most definitely her. Didn't change the fact that she tried to make her think there was somehow a monster running around the house.

"You tricked me!" the rookie digimon announced and found herself faced with looks from both women. What else were these two hiding from her? That they were a couple? A possible underground organization involving people in costumes fighting monsters? No, the last one sounded too silly to be true. Would make for a really good television series, on the other hand.

"Not really?" Lindsey answered and watched the other woman bring Lunamon in close to her. A very limited hug followed. "Outside of me marrying Kim a couple months ago."

Lunamon's gaze swiveled over to the other woman.

"She seems alright." the rookie digimon muttered and got a chuckle from her partner. Looking past their attempt at tricking her, she had just met her. Time would truly tell whether or not this would work out.

.

"And that's how I met back up with my partner." Lunamon finished and got a nod from her audience. Regardless of said audience consisting of a single Renamon. Waiting a moment for any remarks, she let out a sigh. "Would it be wrong of me to assume you met back up with your partner in a similar way?"

Renamon rolled her eyes. She wasn't completely sure why Lunamon was even asking such a silly question like that. Especially having already told the story multiple times. At least, she had thought that it had come up. Or was she thinking of someone else entirely? That was probably why. Not that she could really think of any other Lunamon to begin with.

"You could say that." the vulpine digimon answered and looked about. Eventually, her gaze came upon a cow carefully petting a wyvern. All while it's rabbit handler held the wyvern's leash. "We should probably get back."

Lunamon nodded and got up from seat. Taking the short distance down gracefully, she made a beeline for the wyvern. Renamon followed right behind, trying to make it look like she wasn't interested. Not that she was successful on that front.

Notes:

So this one was based off one of the original story ideas for Tales of the Returned. That being a Lunamon getting tricked by her own partner. While the spirit of that original idea is here, I've taken the time to expand it out into some far more proper.
