I don't own digimon.

Story 28

Tropical Wakeup

Melody wasn't completely sure why her head felt as if it had been hit with a cinder block. She would blame it on her friends, but none of them had come with her to the beach. Even if they had, would they even believe what had happened? A ball of light appearing out of nowhere, bringing with it her beloved veemon and some kind of business woman. Before she had a chance to check if she was alright, the ball of light collided with her and everything went dark for a bit. Now that it was gone, she could finally look over that woman for any injuries and figure out what the heck was go-

Or would've, if not for the sudden disappearance of the business woman and her beloved veemon. Heck, even that strange ball of light had disappeared on her before she could see what exactly it was. Maybe even document it. How rude of that entity.

"Where did they go?" Melody announced, gazing about her surroundings. Had she somehow imagined all of that? Wasn't out of the question. She had gotten other vivid dreams before after long tireless days of work. But those were the result of exhaustion, not balls of light. So she scratched that idea. There was always the prospect of some kind of illicit substance in her system. But Melody had no recollection of consuming any of those. "Veemon, where are you?!"

Looking about, the beachgoer could make out no sign of the blue digimon. Against the sand, they should stick out like a sore thumb. But no, they somehow evaded their amazing vision. At least, she thought her vision was amazing. Her friends would claim otherwise. What did they know? Most of them couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, even if they were aiming directly at it.

"I'm over here, Melody!" a voice called out, Melody's gaze swiveling over. From the look of things, that was where Veemon was. Or at least, she hoped they were. Charging in that general direction, the beachgoer's gaze caught a glimpse of a turned over umbrella. Coming to a stop, she looked around for the possible perpetrator of such petty vandalism. When her gaze couldn't find whoever it was behind this, Melody took the time to put the umbrella back in the ground. The least she could do while over there. Once that was done, Melody took the time to look for the voice. They couldn't have gotten that much farther in the time it had taken her to fix that umbrella. Heading off, she gazed about the beach one more time. Ignoring most of the people, she instead tried to find Veemon. If her eyes could catch a trace of them, then finding that business woman would be a cinch. At least, she hoped it would be one. Her human friends were great and all, but it sometimes felt as if they didn't quite understand the various challenges of being a nurse around here. From the weird idiots doing stupid stuff to their bodies, to the irate people who believed they needed to be treated even though they very much didn't. There were only so many times she could laugh it all off before the beachgoer would reach her breaking point. Getting possessed very much didn't help with that either. But she pushed that thought to the back of her head and looked around one more time. Her partner had to be around here. Why else would she have caught a glimpse of them? She very much needed a clue of where to go from he-

Black Hole!

Black Hole!

Sadly, just saying the magic words wasn't enough to bring forth a black hole. But it did clue Melody in on where she needed to go to find her partner. Heading in that direction, she could make out something blue. But would that somehow be Veemon? Or was she about to find yet another false sign? Melody wasn't completely sure. The only real way to find out was going full speed towards the blue she saw and hope for the best.

"Veemon?" she called out, waiting a moment for a response back. Surely he had to have heard her calling their name while practicing their signature black hole move. Even if it never caused the desired effect. One of the many things Melody loved about her partner.

Black Hole!

Coming to a stop on the sands, the beachgoer gazed about her surroundings. Veemon had to be close. Or at least, closer than when she was the last time they used that attack. Were they training or had they somehow gotten attacked by a rogue digimon. When was the last time she had to treat a digimon-related injury. Had to be around the time people were ending up in comas. Thankfully that didn't last. She didn't want to imagine having to break the news to grieving family and friends that the people they (hopefully) cared about had passed on even with their best efforts. Even in the best of times, they would all break down. Hopefully that wasn't a sign of things to come. For now, Melody pushed that thought out. Not much use in thinking about that. Instead, she should be thinking about all the activities that could happen now that Veemon was back. So many restaurants she could take the blue digimon too. They had told her right before disappearing that they wanted to have crab. A perfect excuse for the pair to go to a seafood place and have a couple legs. If crab legs were on the menu. If not, there was always the option of imitation crab. Veemon probably wouldn't know the difference. Not that Melody knew either. Crab was crab in her book. Artificial or not, it still tasted good.

"Melody, I could use some help here!" a voice announced, Melody's gaze swiveling up ahead. Veemon currently hung from the leaves of a palm tree, swinging about violently at an unseen entity. Definitely the work of that ball of light. Melody was sure of it. Or at least, whoever that woman was. Perhaps they were working together. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing she had heard or seen today. That would go to the man who thought it would be cute to shove a pool noodle up his ass. Claimed that he would become a unicorn if he left that in his rectum long enough. Beyond being unable to put pants on and use the toilet, he wasn't anywhere close to becoming a unicorn. After he was told that, he let them pull the pool noodle out. For now, she pushed that story to the back burner. Maybe Veemon would appreciate it.

"I'm coming!" Melody announced and approached the palm tree. In retrospect, going with her bikini had been a pretty bad idea. Any other outfit would work far better for climbing up a tree. But no, she had wanted to believe this would be a normal beach day. Grabbing hold of the trunk, the beachgoer got to scurrying up the palm tree. Looking up to Veemon, she should hopefully be able to grab her partner and then carry them down. If that didn't work, she could just throw them down. Veemon probably wouldn't mind. Didn't explain how her partner got up there in the first place. Had something freaked them out so much the only option was to climb up a palm tree. What exactly that was, Melody wasn't sure. "How are you doing, Veemon?"

Veemon looked down to their partner. Taking a moment to think it over, they weren't completely sure where to start here.

"Pretty good, minus the fact that I accidentally got thrown into a portal while visiting Imperialdramon." Veemon answered and watched Melody come to a stop. Clearly she had heard his attempts at sucking the palm tree away to get back down. Try as they might to get it work, something didn't click and gravity refused to bend to their will. Absolutely aggravating right now. Thankfully Melody was no longer possessed by that ball of light. They weren't completely sure what they would do if she somehow wasn't. Would headbutting their partner dislodge the ball of light? Veemon wasn't sure. Nor did they wish to find out in any sense of the word. Why would they even want that in the first place? Thick as Melody's skull was, that wasn't a legitimate reason to test that theory out in the slightest. "Do you want me to jump?"

Melody shook her head. What made them think they would need to do that? Especially after all the effort she had put in just climbing this tree. How else would this conversation be occurring? Melody let it slide for now. Climbing the last couple feet, she carefully scooped up Veemon with her free hand. Then came the hard part - actually getting down. In retrospect, maybe it would have been better if she had just asked her partner to jump down. But she just had to climb up a palm tree in a bikini. Pushing that thought to the back of her mind, Melody carefully descended the palm tree. Hopefully there wasn't a law against climbing palm trees. Considering the circumstances, she highly doubted any prosecution would occur.

Back on solid ground, Melody set her partner down and dusted herself off.

"Are we good now?" the beachgoer inquired and Veemon nodded. Even with no sign of that mysterious woman and the ball of light, this was good enough. Especially if they got some crab after this. Melody was going to take them there, right?
