I don't own digimon.

Story 53

Fielding you in

Lalamon floated about the field, searching for anything that resembled a building. She had been asleep when whatever force decided that she had needed to return to the human world. Why couldn't they wait until she was awake? That way, the bush digimon could actually see when the portal appeared and could at least try and avoid it.

"Asshole portal." Lalamon muttered as her focus turned to the field. Nothing in the way of actual plants, but someone had at least gone through the trouble of at least tilling it and perhaps seeding it. At least, she hoped that the latter was done. "Jamie, where are you?"

Waiting a moment for a response, Lalamon was met with silence. Not that she actually expected an actual response here. No,that would be silly. Beyond some kind of large farm vehicle, the odds of someone hearing her and thinking that they should approach were just not in the cards. Kind of like her poker skills. Nice as it was for the other digimon to invite her for a round, she left a lot to be desired. Oh well. She knew tons of other games that one can play with a deck of cards. Old Maid, Go Fish, even Klondike Solitaire, just to name a few. Not that Lalamon had a deck of cards to play said games with. No, she would need to find one. Perhaps Jamie had a deck that she wouldn't mind sharing with her digimon partner. She was likely in for quite a shock once they found each other. She could only hope that they were given a warning in regards to her arrival. The bush digimon could think of a long list of less than pleasant situations that you wouldn't want to have your digimon partner show up at.

Pushing that thought out, Lalamon took a moment to debate which direction she should go. From her position, it was fields as far as she could see. At the same time, the tilling looked to be going north and south. Great, minus the fact that she didn't know which direction was which. Not a big deal in the digital world, but could make all the difference in her situation. Looking to her left, Lalamon headed off. Even if this didn't turn out to be right, she could always turn around and go the other direction. Simple as that. But that wasn't factoring in a variety of factors that were well out of the bush digimon's control. Stuff like the weather, birds and even farming equipment. The last one especially so. While she could likely survive a hit from most stuff, she didn't want to test that theory out in the slightest. Jamie wouldn't want that in the slightest. No, she much rather have her partner in one piece. But that went without saying.

"Hi there, Mr Crow." Lalamon greeted as a crow landed in the dirt. Pecking at it a couple times, the bird's attention shifted to her. "How are you?"

The crow let out a 'caw', only to fly away right after. Lalamon still waved. That felt like the right thing to do here. Even if the bird was unable to do the same thing back to her. Better yet, how did birds greet each other? Did they just let out a slightly different call than what was normally used for their day-to-day life? She honestly couldn't say. Nor did the bush digimon have much of a reason to really dwell on. Instead, Lalamon continued on her merry way. If luck was on her side, perhaps something else would show up and serve to provide some amount of company. This was already a step up from the digital world. Hardly anyone ever came to see her. She had gone through all the necessary steps to provide easy access to her abode - a relatively populated area, easy entrance and of course, Lalamon had lots of snacks on hand. That last one should've been her golden ticket to many visitors… if it weren't for the fact that her abode was so high up. Easy enough for the bush digimon to reach, but quite a challenge for anyone else to even dare to come her way. Unless you were a bird digimon and just flew up. The few digimon that did were usually kind enough to stop by and relay the general news of the digital world. Whether or not any of that news was actually new or current didn't matter. Any news was better than no news at all. Even if none of it had anything to do with Jamie. Lalamon was fine with that. With all that happened in the Human World, the last thing the bush digimon needed was her partner to turn up dead or in some kind of coma. No, she was still alive and going about life to the best of her abilities. That was all that Lalamon could ask for, other than getting dropped from a closer place. But that was getting nitpicky with forces well beyond her power. If they could drop her in an entirely different world, they could just as easily erase her from existence without a trace of her ever existing. Pushing that thought away, Lalamon's gaze turned to the sky. Shining a bright shade of blue, there wasn't a cloud in sight. While the bush digimon wouldn't mind a drink, that could easily be solved with a faucet and or a bucket. Neither of which could be found in the field. If they were, Lalamon would be concerned. Whoever farming this place would be out of their league and set up for failure. Definitely a talking too would be in order, but the bush digimon let that thought be deleted.

"Jamie, are you out there?" Lalamon announced and waited a moment for a possible response back. Once more, she was met with silence. Definitely had quite a bit of distance to go before reaching anything resembling a farm or at least a town. The former, more likely than the latter. Perhaps they would have one of those big red barns. Those were always awesome. Even better if it had farm equipment or animals inside. "Are there any humans out here that can hear this?"

That response too fell upon deaf ears. Unlike the first one, she had actually tried to shout even louder. But all that accomplished was her words getting blocked out by the wind. Quite rude of nature to do that to her at a time like this. Couldn't it see that she was trying to get back to her human? The least nature could do was be on her side for once. Considering how unpredictable it was in the first place, that was out of the question. Turning to the direction she was heading towards, Lalamon headed on. For something that felt like it could continue on forever, the bush digimon could begin to see signs of trees. The start of new leaves had just begun to bloom across their branches. Tempted as she was to make a beeline over, Lalamon resisted the temptation. When she found Jamie. There was more than enough opportunities to get up into a tree and pretend she was Tarzan. That was still popular with kids, right? Movies were generally not something that came up often in the Digital World. No, books were a heck of a lot more popular. Weird, considering that movies were far more compatible media than books had ever been. But that was how it looked in her eyes. The truth was likely a far more complicated matter.

Stopping for a moment to look beyond the trees, Lalamon found herself met with nothing once more. There had to be something here after all her traveling. That was how it usually worked. This just flew in the face of all reason and logic. Unless she hadn't gone far enough. That could always be the ca-

Before Lalamon could finish that thought, the sound of large machinery blared out. Spinning around, the bush digimon found herself staring down a tractor of all vehicles. Getting out of the way just in time, she floated up to the vehicle's roof. Taking a seat, Lalamon let out a sigh.

"Just my luck." Lalamon thought as she shifted her sitting position. With all that noise, whoever was driving probably didn't hear her shouts. That, or the driver's hearing protection was truly noise-canceling. "At least we're moving."

Per usual, her voice fell upon deaf ears. This time, the bush digimon expected it to happen and welcomed the silence. Even if it wasn't particularly long in the face of the vehicle's noises. No, that was the loudest of them all. One would think that the manufacturer would at least try to make it quieter. But instead, they decided that the noise needed to be that way for the sake of performance and/or power. If not that, why else would it need to be so loud? There was absolutely nothing as far as the eye can see. Trying her best to debate this question, the bush digimon found herself grasping at straws. Just her luck. Couldn't be one of those easy questions that could be solved with a little critical thinking. Instead, she needed to think deep on this. Or whatever the appropriate word was. Didn't really matter as the tractor came to a stop. Nearly throwing Lalamon off the roof in the process, she managed to hold on. Then it was a cinch to just float down to be in front of the glass of the tractor's cabin. Staring in, she was met with the gaze of a woman. Dressed in a red flannel top with a ripped pair of jeans, the woman had gone through the trouble of tying her strawberry blonde hair back into a simple bun. Probably just to keep it out from the controls or anything that might get thrown up in the direction of the windshield. Not that Lalamon could think of anything that could be in a field like this. Turning back to the face, she was met with lime green eyes and pale violet lips.

"Jamie?" Lalamon announced and was met with a head shake from the woman. Opening the door up, she took the time to pull the bush digimon in. Setting Lalamon down within, their gazes met.

"Her wife." the woman answered and fitted a set of earmuffs onto Lalamon. Grabbing a second pair, it was now her turn to put some earmuffs on as well. Focus shifting ahead, she started the tractor back up. The vehicle headed off, going far slower than Lalamon was expecting it too. Much as she wanted to voice her complaint, the noise of the vehicle and the earmuffs blocked it all out. Instead, the bush digimon forced her attention ahead. Beyond the trees, she could make out buildings. Sadly, no big red barn. But there were stables, a farmhouse and what looked to be some greenhouses and silos scattered about in the distance. She had finally reached civilization. Or at least, something closely resembled civilization. Either one was good enough in her book. As long as she could find Jamie, of course. Then it would be all good. Where could her partner be? In one of the houses? Out somewhere else on the farm? An entirely different place? She couldn't say. Though, the tractor was slowing to a stop. This had to be where she was getting off. Looking up to this unknown woman, she felt her earmuffs get pulled off. Looking up to the woman, she too had taken them off. Setting both pairs off to the side, the woman picked Lalamon up. Opening the door up, she took care in getting out.

"I can fly from this point." Lalamon explained as the woman let go. Flying out of her arms, she took a moment to get her leaves all smoothed out. Once they had, Lalamon returned to look around. Jamie had to be around here. Why did she feel so keen on evading her vision? Just did-

"Found you." a voice announced as a pair of arms pulled her into the stomach of an unknown person. Staring up, she was met with a brunette. Plain blue eyes stared down at her body, the fabric of a shirt doing its best to not pull off any leaves from Lalamon's body. Even as the bush digimon came upon her partner's wedding. Relatively plain, it looked nice in this light.

"Jamie…" Lalamon muttered as the tears rolled down. She didn't understand why the tears were coming down. Nor did she care. They were together. That was all that mattered.
