I don't own digimon.
Story 72
Thetismon of Intentions
Even before the text came in Betty had a sneaking suspicion of what was on the horizon. Calling it superstition, call it premonition, it was all the same in her book. Someone bad was coming to this town and tearing shit up. Perhaps even kill people. That last part especially. Bad enough that they were dealing with people getting injured by digimon. Usually an accident, that didn't make explaining to the digidestined in question any easier. Didn't help when it was a repeat offender.
"Mr Larson, I assume you know what I'm about to say to you?" Betty announced and stared at her patient. A man in his mid-thirties stared back. Weathered skin on full display, locks of brown hair with some hints of blonde hair framed cyan eyes and a professional beard. Didn't hide the scar on his left cheek. A greenish cyan shirt proudly displaying 'I'm a medic but…' in red letters met that of a pair of track pants. Covered in rips and holes, it made the just as messed up loafers on his feet.
"That I need to stop while I'm still ahead?" Mr Larson answered and got a sigh from Betty. There were so many things she could say here, but her patient wasn't going to listen. So she went with the one thing that might get through. It was a long shot, but she had a feeling that this would get through. If not, there were always shots. Those did the job nicely.
"No. You need to stop willingly throwing yourself into situations that would get normal people killed." Betty announced and looked Mr Larson in the eye. Watching him look in her direction, a look of a man who had seen horrors beyond what any could imagine stared back. "Or do you have a promise that needs to be kept that requires you to get into fights."
Mr Larson stared down at the examination bed table he was sitting on. Muttering something at the uncaring fabric, his attention returned to Betty.
"You could say that." the detective answered and let out a sigh. Waiting a moment for Betty to say anything, he was instead met with silence. "I suspect that it was the same with you?"
Now, it was Betty's turn to look away. Gazing over at a nearby picture frame, she was met with a picture. A teenage Betty sat in front of a tall purple jellyfish lady, both holding Sailor Jupiter dolls. Outside of her childhood home, that was all before the mess with Ordinemon and then Eosmon. While some people liked to see the world, that didn't mean they couldn't do it in such a way that kept the number of casualties to a minimum. Menoa Belluci killed far more people than she had even managed to save in the first place. Honestly, the doctor was surprised they even let her live. So many countries were calling for her head in the way of that mess. Honestly, she would've done the same after the extent of damage caused. On par with the Ordinemon mess, if perhaps not worse.
"If my partner is still out there, I highly doubt that she would actually come back." Betty muttered and lifted up a clipboard. Looking it over a couple times, her attention shifted back to Mr Larson. "How about yours? Did you scare it away with a stupid stunt?"
Mr Larson rolled his eyes. If it was something simple as him doing something wrong, then there was a simple solution to that. Sadly, that was not the case here. Instead, he had a different kind of problem to deal with. One not easily solved without direct intervention of other entities. Sounded like a copout, but it very much was the truth.
"I wish that was the case." Mr Larson answered and shifted his seated position. Messenger bag on full display here, that was where Betty's gaze found its way over. By no means her position to judge, the kind of things a person kept on them were a good way to learn a lot about them. In Mr Larson's case, the messenger bag looked to be a cross between a container for detective stuff and medical supplies. By no means the oddest thing she had seen a patient come in with, it very much was up there. Though, it did feel like something was missing. A section near the front had been unzipped, allowing for a stuffed animal to be set within. As far Betty could see, there was no stuffed animal to be found.
"That should be all, Mr Larson. Your next appointment is in six months. If something comes up, call and reschedule." Betty announced, forcing her gaze back to Mr Larson. Getting a nod from the detective, that was his cue to exit the examination room. Giving a wave, Betty sighed. Looking back at the photo, part of the doctor suspected he was trying to get a reaction out of her. Wouldn't surprise her in the slightest. Seemed like that was the order of the day. Like or not, she just needed to make it to the end of her shift. Afterwards, she could relax for an hour or two and then make a decision when it came to possibly joining Steve, Keith and everyone else ahead of any proper communication of such an event. When was the last time she had seen everyone in one place? Had to be at the wedding. Even then, there were a couple people missing. Most notably, Sachiko, Jolyne and of course, their digimon partners. While she had not gotten to meet most of their partners, she had heard enough stories through the grapevine to know what they were capable of. But how would they react to being together? Could they even work together to defeat Belphemon? Betty wasn't certain, but suspected the question needed to be resolved anyway. A digimon like Belphemon was bound to not remain idle for long. No, she was already planning her next move. In turn, better to prepare for the inevitable than wait for it to blow over. Which was exactly what Betty planned to do between patients. Her hands were tied until the end of her shift, but that didn't stop her from heading to her cubicle and packing some medical supp-
A syakkomon hopped by, bringing a swift end to that thought. Looking in Betty's direction, they didn't look particularly happy. Betty didn't blame them for feeling that way. Hospitals could be scary for a number of reasons. In this case, this likely had something to do with their human partner. Scooping up the clam digimon, Betty held them at a safe distance. The last thing she needed was to get squirted because the little digimon had been held wrong. While a spare pair of clothes were available, the doctor preferred to avoid changing into them. Wet clothes were very much unprofessional, but so was delaying her next appointment on the count of digimon shenanigans. No one would probably believe her either. The number of digimon around was very much increasing, a majority of people had never seen a digimon before.
"Could you tell me what's wrong?" Betty inquired and syakkomon closed their shell. Shaking about a couple times, they were unable to break free from the doctor's grip. Eventually coming to a stop, they nervously crack their shell open just a little. Enough that they could see Betty, but Betty would have trouble actually seeing what was within. No matter.
"Needles. Too many needles." the syakkomon announced and shook about. Getting a look from Betty, that brought a swift end to that possible tirade. "Why can't this be like Thetismon's clinic. At least she doesn't stab us when we wiggle about."
Betty raised an eyebrow, conflicting emotions bouncing about her skull. Happy as she was to hear that her partner had managed to find something to do, that didn't change the fact that she was also the least qualified person the doctor knew to be doing anything medical-related. This was the same digimon who thought blood was in fact cherry soda. Which was on top of thinking that bones grew back instantly, regardless of the injury. Betty had learned that the hard way after falling out of a tree while waiting for her then boyfriend. Her mother was very much not amused by her partner's attempts to fix it.
"Was your partner getting a shot to boost their immunity, by any chance?" Betty inquired and felt syakkomon turn their entire body away. A few bubbles shot out. Popping before they hit anything, that was all Betty needed to know. Turning the clam digimon back around, she watched them open up slightly more. "Do you know what room they were in?"
Syakkomon bounced up and down. Shifting in the direction of a nearby door, Betty headed in that direction. Stopping in front of the door, she waited a moment to see if anyone was going to exit. When no one did, the doctor took the time to knock. Stepping back, that allowed the doctor manning this room to open the door enough to see who it was. An older man, his scrubs were looking absolutely soaked
"I think someone is missing this." Betty announced and held Syakkomon out for the doctor to grab. Accepting the clam digimon back, care was taken to spin around and bring them over to their adult partner. Turning away, Betty closed the door in the process. That was one problem solved. Which should leave her enough time to get back to her cubic-
Of course, her pager had other ideas. Going off mere steps later, Betty looked the message over. Leave it to that particular patient to arrive early. While normally an issue, this would work in her favor. Of course, she would also need to get some shots. But that was a small price to pay here for information on her partner and what the fuck they thought they were doing playing doctor. If the patient did know. Pushing those thoughts back for now, Betty headed for the fridge with the vaccines. Thankfully, it wasn't particularly far away from where she was. Entering the room, she wasted little time in grabbing the syringes. This should hopefully be a quick appointment. Shots, then talking. While similar to talking with Mr Larson, it felt less like she was going through a sense of deja vu. Probably not anything close to that and instead just how it felt. Simple as that. Bringing the pager back out one more time, she took a moment to look over the message for the room number. Once she had gotten that, its full steam ahead to the examination room. Slowing down as the destination came into view, she got her questions in order. Her patient was likely not one to want to be assaulted with questions.
"Mrs Tachikana and Mrs Tachikana?" Betty greeted as she opened the door. Entering the room, she was met with Chaos and Freya. At the moment, the former was sitting on the examination table. Leafing through a strategy guide, Betty did recognize
"Hello, Doctor Betty." Freya greeted and signed something in Chaos's direction. Chaos nodded, taking the time to close her strategy guide. Looking in Betty's direction, a wave followed. A smile hung on her face… up until she saw the syringes.
'You didn't say anything about their being shots.' Chaos signed and shot Freya a look. Nonetheless, the principal reached out to her wife's hand. Giving it a squeeze, that was Betty's cue to begin with the shots.
"I heard what happened at the school." Betty announced and Freya looked away. Muttering something out into the room.
"Yeah. Quite a mess Belphemon made, even in the face of our gym teacher." Freya announced and got a look from Betty.
"What? Is the gym teacher some kind of world-class fighter or something?" Betty joked and watched her patient nod. There were always rumors about high-powered people being in this part of the world, but she didn't think they were true.
"You could say that." Freya announced and watched Betty depress the syringe into Chaos's arm. Waiting a moment, she pulled the syringe out and treated the spot. Moving to the
'I've seen her in action. She's on a whole different level. Kind of needed to be, back then.' Chaos signed as the next needle pierced through her skin. While technically a 'digimon', it still was good to have stuff like this done from time-to-time. Just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't want to come down with the digital world version of a cold. 'I'm guessing her significant other is back?'
Freya nodded and squeezed Chaos's hand. Looking over to Betty, she was met with a confused look.
"Is this just normal for you two?" Betty inquired and got a head shake and a nod from her audience. While not answering the question, it did provide some useful information when it came to bring
"It's a secret to everyone." Freya answered and got a glare from Betty. In retrospect, perhaps it would have been better to not go with that quote. Oh well. "Not really? We've met a lot of people and gotten to see a lot of things. But we eventually decided to settle down and let peace take hold. I suspect you know that feeling quite well."
Betty stared at the floor for a couple seconds. Part of her hated how on the money Freya was here. Yes, her days leading up to becoming a doctor could be described as chaotic and less than mature. At the same time, she had felt free of the burdens that laid before her.
"I guess you could say that." Betty muttered as she bandaged up the spot. There was only one more syringe she needed to give here. All the more reason to actually ask the question that mattered to her here. Letting out a sigh, she got her thoughts in order. No matter what was said, she would just have to accept the answer. "By any chance have you seen Thetismon?"
Chaos mimed a sigh and stared at a wall. Waiting a moment for the syringe to be depressed, she forced her gaze back over to Betty. More than enough time for the doctor to do her job and the vaccine to do its work.
"Yes. I'm not certain what favors were pulled or how she managed to convince other digimon that she was more than capable of treating them, but she did it. Of course, I had to give her a stern talking too. She didn't listen, because why would she? She's Thetismon, greatest healer to ever walk the digital world. Or something dumb along those lines.' Chaos announced and shook her hands about. Waiting a moment for Betty to respond, the white mage was met with a sigh. Expected after hearing all of that. She honestly would've done the same, if she was capable of speaking.
"I suspected she was doing something like that." Betty answered and got to treating the last shot. Picking up the used syringes, she took care to properly dispose of them. Medical waste was no joke, after all. "Do you remember where you were when you met up with her last?"
Chaos stared down at the strategy guide in her lap. Miming a sigh, she closed her eyes for just a second.
'In a field, but she's probably right behind you.' the white mage announced and Betty raised an eyebrow. While Chaos was clearly telling the truth here, Thetismon being behind her was just silly. She didn't fit most hallways. If the healer digimon was here, care and attention would need to be taken in order to not cause property damage. This was a lesson that the doctor had hoped carried through with all these years of being in the digital world. She doubted it. Much like everything Thetismon did, it was either a way to gain favor for herself or to get into a better situation that her skills would not normally allow her to reach. Situations like getting into a hospital without having the proper clearances in the slightest. Yeah, she would definitely give it the old colle-
Betty found her statement cut off by way of ceiling tiles being knocked to the floor. Poking her head out, she was met with Thetismon. Holding a pink rabbit dressed up as an idol, an attempt was made to get away. The healer digimon didn't get far.
"Uh… you should probably go and find your human, Olrumon." Thetismon cooed and set the rabbit idol digimon down. Getting a nod, Olrumon headed for the elevator. For now, Betty's gaze held steady on her partner.
"I've heard some things, Thetismon." Betty greeted and Thetismon looked away. Whistling in the hopes of getting out of the conversation, one look from Chaos was all it took to bring a swift end to that. Even without her greatsword, she was still scary.
"Stupid mute. I should have killed you after you exposed me!" Thetismon threatened and Chaos jumped to the floor. Cracking her knuckles, light of all things began charging around her hands.
'You can try.' Chaos signed, Freya getting between them before an actual fight can occur. Looking at both parties, that brought an end to whatever spell that Chaos was trying to cast here.
"Save the aggression for Belphemon." Freya announced and looked over to Betty. Opening her mouth, the principal got a nod. All she needed to see here.
"Knowing our enemy, it probably won't be long before she decides to attack." Betty announced and reached out to Thetismon's hands. Grabbing hold, her partner accepted the gesture.
.
Belphemon roused from her slumber. That had been such a nice nap. Perhaps it was time to put things into motion. Yes, that sounded nice. Of course, she needed to make a phone call. Some backup would make a world of difference here…
