Chapter 19: Boys and Girls

I don't own anything. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom and Tomb Raider belongs to Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, and I think Square Enix. The only thing I own is the changes made to the stories of the Tomb Raider games/comics and Resident Evil games/comics/CG movies, the Government branch S.P.E.L.L., the person that has taken over Kathrine Warren's life, and Rose Warren. This story also will be bloody, violent, and have cursing. It's rated T for Teen.

Once Ana and Konstantin left the room with their guards, Lara stood up. She walked around the landing. Both Jacob and Kat looked at her, Jacob doing a double take.

"What are you doing?!" Jacob hissed at her.

Lara jumped down from the landing to the floor below. She needed a better look at the map. Kat stood and joined her. Keeping watch.

Lara looked over the papers on the table and read them out loud. "Mankind shall be judged, the non-believers turned to ash and swept away. And the pure faith will be raised up and given…" Lara gasped as she read the last line of Latin. "eternal life."

"The—" Kat didn't finish as the blaring alarms for the complex sounded. "Shit. That's not good." She said instead as Lara, Jacob, and her looked around. "They've discovered our escape."

Lara nodded as she spotted the floor grate. She looked up at Jacob. "Get out!" She called as she walked to the grate.

"We'll find you!" Kat told him as she rushed to help Lara.

It took some doing, but Kat and Lara got the grate up. They slipped beneath it, landing in water. They didn't need to close it behind them as it was heavy enough it followed gravity's laws. Just in time too. Four guards came in with automatic rifles at the ready.

"We've gotta find them!" Called the leader. "Keep looking."

"They have to be here somewhere." Said another as Lara and Kat kept quiet.

Lara shook water off herself as she and Kat got moving out of the view of the lights. The white beams waving back and forth. Searching for one or more forms sneaking around in the shadows.

"Prison floor is clear." Said one of them from up top after the white beams vanished from the grate. "Eyes open. One of them's gotta be here."

"On it!" The other's chorused as Lara and Kat started moving again in the water that was waist high for them.

"Alright." Lara whispered and looked to Kat as they moved through the murky brownish green water. "We've got to find a way out of here…" She saw Kat's pained expression. "Are you okay?"

"Memories are a bitch. Yamatai and Raccoon." Kat told her. "All those water ways, the blood pools, and well sewers."

Lara wrinkled her nose as they kept wading forward. "Let's not think about what this water's contaminated with."

"Dose smell a bit off." Kat muttered as they were partial darkness.

They stopped talking at the sound of foot falls. Kat put out a hand to stop them moving so the water was not making any sloshing sounds.

"Sweep and clear every room, we HAVE to find them! The Croft girl and that blonde bitch." Called one of the guards above them.

"We've gotta find them…keep looking." Barked another guard.

After a few moments the shadows vanished from above them and they got moving again. But they picked up the sound of them checking the grates. Metal rattling on bolts and cement. They shared worried looks but kept moving as they rounded some pipes.

"This one's secure!"

"Nothing here!"

They then came to a collapsed floor that made a convenient ramp out of the water and flooded crawl space. The two climbed up and out. They looked around the small locker room as their radios beeped.

"Lara, Kat, the train yard is on the north side of the gulag." Jacob's voice told them. "I'll wait for you both there."

Lara pulled her radio and pushed the talk button. "On our way."

"I need assistance. The control room door is locked form the inside." Called a muffled female voice. "We're gonna have to break it down."

"Damn." Lara said as she looked over a map. "We've got to hurry."

Kat nodded as she found a tape. She pulled her stolen player and popped it in. She and Lara both gritted their teeth at Ana's voice.

"Strange being in the field again. I was undercover for so long, locked in a life of comfort at Croft Manor. Here, there is no comfort at all. The air is frozen, the food is canned and cold. The company, aside from Konstantin, is abysmal.

But I asked to be here. I need to be here. I do not have the luxury of time or patience. Konstantin and I began this journey together; I will be there when he fulfills his destiny.

So, for now, I'll breathe deep. I'll let the cold air burn my lungs. I'll let it remind me that I'm still alive. And let it fuel me for the final push towards our destiny."

"More of Ana's personal journal. She's been working for Trinity longer than I've known her. Everything I know about her is a lie..." Lara hissed as Kat popped the tape out.

"It's not your fault—"

"Did she kill my father?" Lara asked looking to Kat. "You said, back on Yamatai, that my father didn't kill himself. That it was Trinity. So, was it her?"

Kat frowned. She thought about it then pulled her pack from her back. She dug around in it for her journal. "I want to say yes, but I can't remember. Let me be sure before you began seeking vengeance." She said calmly as she found her journal. She leafed through the pages then shook her head. "No. She couldn't do it. She was ordered to do so though."

Lara didn't relax though. "I think it's worse that she was present for it." She shuttered.

"I know. The fact she was involved makes her an accomplice. Complicit. She's as much to blame for your dad's death as Trinity is." Kat put her book away as they moved to the metal door. "Ready for this?"

"Tear this place apart!" A voice coming from the crawl space floated up. They have found the lose grate and know that someone was in the water. Their walking had stirred up mud and debris so it was painting a path for them to follow.

"Yeah." Lara pushed the door open.

They peered out and looked around, Kat ducking lower than Lara so they both could look out at the same time. Kat muffled a snort when she realized that they must look like they are Scoobying this shit as they looked like Velma and Daphne looking around a door when the ghost was right behind them. They had to be quiet so they moved slowly to close the door behind them. Once out Lara turned the handle to lock the door with a sliding plate. If the guards found where they came back up, they might think this door wasn't the one they went through. Or it could delay them as they try to break it down.

"Alpha, what's the situation?"

But both knew there weren't just the guards behind them, there were a few ahead of them too. They moved fast a quietly to the next room, rounding a chain fence. This room had a collapsed floor. It would be fine to cross if the water that flooded the hole wasn't electrified by a hanging power generator. But it had ropes wrapped around it that could make an arrow anchor. Then there was also a winch.

"No sign yet. Heading to the control room now." Said another voice.

Kat stopped by a table as Lara found a winch for crossing the collapsed floor. Kat picked up a triangular shield patch. It was red with gold thread bordering the edges of both the outside and the black open winged bird in the center.

"Trinity soldier's military patch." She said as Lara loosed a rope arrow at the generator. "No markings or text of any kind. No rank, name, or anything like that. Not even a division or location. Super secretive." She tucked it away as evidence. "But I wouldn't be surprised if they have pins for suits, fancy badges or maybe coffee mugs."

Lara frowned and looked at Kat. "Why?"

"Secret organizations tend to do that. Put their symbol on shit for everyday use. Heck some of its members might have it tattooed on them." Kat said with a shrug. "It's the really good ones that have no identifiers. Like…" Kat's nose curled with anger. "Like 'The Family'. A group that is like the Illuminati and try to control everything. Now that I think about it, they might be part of Trinity."

"Wouldn't surprise me." Lara grunted as she used her climbing axe to wind the rope attached to the generator with the winch. "So far, everything's been linked to Umbrella and Trinity on some level. If that secret 'Family' is linked to anything, it's probably Trinity."

"I just hope I've got the ball rolling enough to get them off the board. Don't need a clone of Ada running around and infecting a city in China or another small town." Kat sighed. "I just hate I can't do much else other than warn S.P.E.L.L. and they warn other divisions."

"Why not?" Lara asked.

"Sherry's linked. Therefor I'd have a personal link to the case and couldn't 'think clearly'." Kat said as the generator lifted from the water and the water ceased being electrified.

"There." Lara said once it was high enough. "Let's go. And I get why. You kinda went over board last year when Sherry was kidnapped. But I wouldn't change a thing of what we did. Other then have Sam zap the case as soon as we saw it."

They rushed across the water.

"They're here!" Shouted a voice that was close by. "Get in position!"

Lara pulled her pistols and Kat her bow.

"Bust this thing open! Come on!"

The door busted open shortly after those words. The man who was entering gasped at seeing the dual pistols pointed at him. "Oh shit!"

Kat rushed the door and rammed her shoulder into it. "NO!" She hissed. They had to find a different way out, they were low on ammo, Kat knew. Both on arrows and bullets.

"Let him in!" Lara told Kat.

"Let me crush his hands first!" Kat called as she grabbed his assault rifle and pulled it sideways.

She rammed the door again and the man screamed as the heavy metal door crushed his hands. She heard several sick cracks and crunches. She smiled as she yanked the gun from him and backed from the door. She'd broken his hands or his fingers. Didn't matter. Either way, you can't use a weapon with your hands if they are damaged enough.

She checked the assault rifle. Fixed the sights, racked it, adjusted the clip, just as the man rammed the door open.

"Get ready to die!" He yelled one hand bloody the other gripped a knife with a bloody pinky.

"Not my death!" Kat yelled as she raised the gun.

Together, she and Lara pulled their triggers. Four shots from Lara's pistols hit his chest. Four quick shots from the rifle hit his face. He dropped to the ground as Kat switched her targets. There were two more men. She fired two shots at the one on the right's head and neck. Lara fired at the left guy. Both downed their man in seconds.

"They've got an assault rifle!" Shouted one of the men behind cover to the far left.

Kat and Lara looted the bodies as they rushed outside and into the snow. It was time to go guns blazing.

Leon jolted as he pressed himself to a crate as the alarms sounded. 'That'll be the girls.' He thought as he checked his ammo.

Intensely he cursed as he counted 5 bullets left for his Silver Ghost, a 9mm handgun made by Kendo after Raccoon. He stopped moving when he saw something buried in the snow. He carefully uncovered it and found his very own tape player. It had a tape inside, so he hit play. The scratchy voice of a woman played for him.

"As we push deeper into the valley, I find myself staring at the ruins and pondering my own mortality. These structures have been here for ages waiting for this moment. I can feel their anticipation. The stone itself wants us to succeed.

And what is there to stop us? Non-believers, the fearful and the lost. Those that hid the source from Trinity for so long.

We are the very people who would use what's hidden here as it was intended to be used.

This world is too corrupt, too rotten, too sick to be saved by any means other than Trinity. We will have our army. A righteous man will lead it. Konstantin will be that man."

'Whoever the hell that was...She's completely bought into this Konstantin guy's insanity...' He popped the tape and put it and the recorder in his pack.

He peered round and saw a man sneaking around. He looked to be in some shabby clothes. They looked warm though. The man stopped and frowned at Leon.

"Who are you?"

Leon stood and aimed at the man. "Who are you?"

"I'm not your enemy." The man said holding his hands up. "We should get to some sort of cover. Trinity's men are everywhere."

"Then why aren't you leaving?" Leon asked, not lowering his gun for a second.

"I'm meeting with some people. They escaped with me. Helped me out. We are to meet here." The man said.

Leon looked to the side at the trains and the far-off men that looked to be patrolling. Then up at the helicopter. It looked to be searching too and ready for shooting.

"Who are you meeting with?" Leon asked, hoping this guy could be trusted.

"Lara and Kathrine." He said making Leon tense.

"What do they look like?" He asked needing to be sure.

"You know them." The man said nodding as he lowered his hands. "Lara had brown hair and eyes, and Kathrine has blonde hair and blue eyes. Lara's around 1.68 m and Kathrine's around 161 m. Kathrine also has a very old spear." He looked at Leon and decided this was one of the friends that the women mentioned.

Leon sighed with relief and lowered his gun. "Are they okay? Not badly hurt or anything?"

The man smiled kindly. "Just some scrapes and bruises. Nothing serious from what I could tell." They both moved to some cover. "I'm Jacob. What is your name?"

"Leon." Leon nodded as they kept an eye out for the men.

"Ah, one of the men Kathrine was worried about." Jacob nodded.

"Jacob?" Came Lara's voice from the radios. "Is that you Jacob?!"

Jacob pulled his radio and pushed the talk button as Leon looked curious. "Lara, you and Kathrine need to be careful." He warned them. "They're everywhere." He said as some men spotted them. "You'll run into some trouble—"

"There he is!" Shouted one of the men as Leon jumped to his feet.

"Who's with him?!" Shouted another guy as Leon took aim.

"Doesn't matter! Take 'em out!"

Leon got two shots before he and Jacob had to duck into new cover. "

Fuck!" He yelled as bullets fired from their attackers.

Those were his last two shots. He heard the clicking of the other man's weapon and he took his chance to rush him. He was a lot bigger than Leon first got the impression of. But he didn't slow as he caught the man by surprise and landed his elbow into the man's upper lip, just under his nose. He was aiming for the nose but missed. That was ok, his lip was driven back into his teeth.

The man staggered back in surprise and with a quick movement had a knife in his hand, but he was holding it wrong, like he was going to stab Leon like a bad slasher movie villain.

When he lunged, Leon feigned to the right and when the knife swung that way, Leon moved to the left and stepped into the man rather than dodging back. This put him inside of the reach of the hand holding the knife. He blocked the swing with his forearm and gave a quick 3 punch combo to the guys face. The man yelled in pain and loosened the grip on the knife enough that Leon was able to twist it out of his grip.

Now Leon did take a few steps back to get out of the reach of the guys hands and feet. But the guy wiped at the blood on his face, his nose now dripping blood just as much as it was from his split lip. He gave his hand a flick, splattering the snow with the red drops. Then his spread his arms wide and gave a roar of rage. Like you would see on some episode of wrestling or a guy about to pull a Semi, like he was trying to psyche up for the attack. Still yelling, he rushed at Leon. Like he was going to grab him in a bear hug.

Just as he started there was a loud explosion to their left. The guy looked over just for a second to see, human nature to be curious. Leon used that distraction to step low and as they guy took his next running step, he used the momentum to flip him over his back. As he landed Leon spun and buried the knife into his throat and jerked to the side to slice it open. Leon didn't wait, Kat and Lara were in trouble. He quickly searched the guy for ammo, reloaded his gun and looked to Jacob.

"Do you have a weapon?" Leon asked.

"No. Just the radio to talk to the women."

Leon nodded and nodded to the box car nearby. "Hide in there and we will be right back." He quickly moved in the direction of the explosions and gun fire.

Lara and Kat looked up listening to the guns firing.

"Shit." They both said, Lara sounding annoyed at the Trinity's interruption and Kat knowing that that was Leon's voice she'd heard.

"Let's go!" Lara nodded.

They rushed along the snowy path. They slipped through a tall chain-link gate.

"Hit the lights!" Shouted a voice.

Kat and Lara were monetarily blinded by bright spotlights flashing on them. They split for separate cover. Lara to the left, Kat to the right. Just in time as bullets from their enemies started raining over the snow, kicking it up. A guy tried to zipline across this check point and Kat pulled her barrowed assault rifle and aimed up at him. Four shots and he screamed as he fell to the ground.

Lara pulled her bow when she spotted a bundle of rope. She notched a rope arrow and aimed as she drew the string back. She let her hand fall back and the arrow sailed through the gunfire, before thunking into the side of the gate's upper level. Lara then grabbed the rope and pulled all the way to the ground. The ground under a few Trinity soldiers, broke apart from stress, age, and Lara's pulling. As they fell to the ground they set of a chain reaction.

An oil lap that was lit nearby shattered and the burning oil landed on a red barrel that was leaking fuel or oil of some kind. With a roar of heat the barrel exploded. The wave of hot air had both Lara and Kat cover their faces with an arm as the fire licked up the side of the building.

Both Kat and Lara aimed their rifle and pistols at the last man, who was trying to move away from the fire. Kat fired at his exposed legs. He yelped as he fell, exposing his head for Lara. Lara fired two shots from each pistol and killed him in seconds. The pair stood up as the doors to the train yard opened and two men came running out, guns firing.

Lara changed to a new cover as Kat rushed the man on the ground with a battle cry, avoiding the gun fire from the guy that had climbed a ladder to get an upper vantage point. Kat yelled as she threw her spear at the man she was running at. Her throw got him in the gut, when she'd been aiming for the chest. He yelled and tried shooting her, but she grabbed his arm and pushed it upward. His shots going up into the air. She hoped they fell on someone other than Lara and Leon.

Lara turned the corner of the barracks window she'd ducked into and fired at the guy up top. Both her pistols ran out of ammo after that, and Kat's redirect luckily killed a guy up top. Kat then pulled her spear from the guy in front of her and slashed his neck with it, finishing him off.

Kat pulled herself into cover as three more guys came out. Lara switched to her bow and used another rope arrow to pull down the wooden upper landing two men were on. Something explosive and flammable must've been up there because as it fell fire erupted and blew up where the two men stood, and the makeshift watch tower a woman was in.

Kat came out of cover after switching to the assault rifle and shot at a man that came running from a bend in the check point. Lara reloaded her pistols before firing at the same guy with Kat, keeping him pinned down.

Just as Lara and Kat thought they could relax, the doors to another barracks opened and two more soldiers and one tall heavily armored guy came out.

"Hostiles spotted. It's only two women." He said as he gripped his assault rifle. "Move out and make it quick."

Lara switched to her bow again and nocked two of her poison arrows. She tipped her bow to the side, so they rested on the center, slightly apart. She then loosed. Both arrows flew and hit the floor at the feet of the two normal soldiers. The poison puffs wafted from their feet and was breathed in. They started couching and choking as Lara holstered her pistols.

"Kat, toss me that assault rifle!" Lara called as she grabbed out three cans and made some quick handmade grenades.

Kat, who'd moved into cover, tossed Lara the rifle and pulled her hunting rifle out. Lara caught the rifle then put it down. She threw her makeshift explosives. They exploded with shrapnel and killed two more men and injured the armored guy. Lara then picked up the assault rifle, stood and aimed at the armored guy. She pulled the trigger and missed completely.

"Fuck!" She yelled out and ducked down into cover. "Kat, cover me!"

Kat nodded and aimed at the guy as he tried shooting at Lara. His helmet was standard military, but his mask had a weakness. She fired a shot. It hit just below the eye of his mask, and knocked him off balance, but he wasn't hurt or dead.

"After you get that thing adjusted, cover me so I can get a real good shot of his eye." Kat called to Lara as the guy shook his head.

Lara nodded as she fixed the sights to her needs and reloaded it. "Ready." She then stood and gave some suppressing fire.

The man was overly confident though. Thinking neither one would ever hit him. Until Kat switched tactics after another shot missed his eye. She aimed for his knees. The side of them. See you can protect the caps of your knees. But the backs of them and the sides, not so much. Kat fired and blood bloomed from the right leg on the knee. The man screamed out and dropped to a kneeling position. Kat then reloaded and looked for another open spot. The neck was open. Couldn't protect that very well. She pulled the trigger again as the man tried to stand again.

He was then choking on his blood as it blossomed on his neck and dribbled down his armor. He fell to the ground dead. Gunfire noise stopped. The only sound was the fire, wind, and the gurgling of the man. But that soon stopped as well.

"Hurt at all?" Lara asked Kat as she checked herself over.

Kat looked and shook her head. "I'm good. Just the graze from earlier. You?"

"I'm good." Lara nodded. "I feel like we're getting less hurt then on Yamatai."

"We're experienced now. Back then, we were new to combat and fighting together." Kat shrugged as they collected ammo and arrows. "Let's get moving. Leon and Jacob are waiting on us."
