Chapter 31: Kat's Hallucination
I don't own anything. Resident Evil belongs to Capcom and Tomb Raider belongs to Core Design, Crystal Dynamics, and I think Square Enix. The only thing I own is the changes made to the stories of the Tomb Raider games/comics and Resident Evil games/comics/CG movies, the Government branch S.P.E.L.L., the person that has taken over Kathrine Warren's life, and Rose Warren. This story also will be bloody, violent, and have cursing. It's rated T for Teen.
Country: Russia, State: Siberia, City: Siberian Wilderness, Place: Near Kitezh, Area: Wicked Vale, Month: November, Day: Tuesday 28th, Year: 2000, Time: 19:14 KRAT…
"-where you die!" Kat gasped on a cough as she heard the voice of Baba Yaga and heard her laughter.
Kat leaned on the wall for stabilization. The now green world was making the bubbling water in the tunnel she was in, look like Halloween horror movie acid or witch's brew. The tree roots bent and flowed as if they were waving at her. Kat let out a scream as she brushed up against one of them and it was suddenly a thin hairy leg. She fell over to the ground and looked to the floor, trying to keep calm and remind herself it wasn't real. The walls shifted and moved as if they wanted to crush her or lead her into the endless dark.
She got back to her feet and stumbled to the corner. "What the…!?"
Lining the walls were a frozen Dragur in iced burial shrouds. Their glowing blue eyes turned to look at her, hands threating to break their ice prisons to attack her.
"No…not real…just the pollen." Kat hissed. "You're not on…" She shook as she started her mantra again. "My…name is Kathrine Beverly Warren…" She walked quickly forward as the heads followed her with cracking sounds of ice. "I'm a mother of two, Sherry and Rose…I'm an agent of S.P.E.L.L…." She stepped out of the tunnel and stopped a moment to finish. "I'm with Lara Croft…and Leon Kennedy…You are not alone. Yana…" She hissed. "You're in the Wicked Vale in Siberia…" She looked up opening her eyes as she saw something rush through the woods in a blur. "You're hallucinating…from pollen…not real."
She straightened up more and turned left, seeing foot pints in the snow on the ground. She rounded the corner and froze at seeing her…her Valkyrie sister.
Guðr marched in a battle walk, spear, and shield in hand. "Róta…Kathrine…" She called firmly as she vanished through the trees.
"Guðr? Sister…?" Kat gasped and ran around the bend.
Nothing. Just empty, foggy, green, snowy forest was before her.
She shook her head. "No, no, no…not real…" She hissed holding her head, her voice fluctuating. "It's fake…find…find him…her…" She opened her eyes and took off down the path. "Lara…! Leon…!" She called out struggling to push through the mind fog.
She felt lost as the trees seemed to close in, making only one path to follow, the snow gaining spikes in it. They looked like…
"Do I detect something within you?" Guðr's voice asked darkly on the air, echoing. "You would not wish to be like our sister, would you? Alone in her memory less life? On a royal throne with the wrong man? If you've fallen for someone, you'll fall as she did, sister. Like Sigrún…"
Kat ran down a random path. "When will this wear off?" She grabbed her head. "Pollen…" She took a sharp breath. "Find Leon…Lara…find…water…?"
She looked up as she slowed to a walk feeling her body start shaking as something shadowy flashed through the trees. Kat turned the corner and saw Guðr standing tall and glaring at her through the slits of her helmet. Kat could feel her mind shifting. She blinked, trying to keep her mind but was losing it.
"Guðr…" Kat shook as she could feel the nightmare from the night before touch the edges of her mind. "I'm…you're—"
The colors shifted as a fire light look took over the foggy green of the forest. A creature of black smoke, yellow eyes, red flames, inky antlers, and long fingered talon claws screeched at her, looming. Kat screamed as her instinct took over, as a scream and gasp sounded. She reached her arm back and threw her spear forward. She then fell back as something slashed at her and hit her across her stomach, falling onto her back as it vanished.
"Real…" Kat gasped as she held her stomach. "Is this…real?" She stood as she looked around her. "Can't…not real…I'm not…I'm not dead…" She hissed shaking.
She walked around the darkening trees. The cold was getting stronger, and the trees looked like they were going to attack at any moment, looking menacing as they got closer and closer.
Guðr's voice rang out. "Do you really think she's happy now as Kára? You need to focus back on Valhalla, her people, and bringing more worthy warriors…"
"Shut up…" Kat hissed running her hands through her lose hair. "Get…out…make it rutting stop…" She gasped out as she turned a corner.
Kat backed up shaking again. Before her was the no longer barricaded doors of the mead hall. She could see a dead warrior or two, but the doors were heavily damaged. Swaying before beginning to open.
"Not…past…in the…past…" Kat whispered as she stumbled forward, her hearing gaining a tendonitis ring.
The doors opened as Guðr walked out into the battlefield. Kat rushed into the wind that came from the north and after her shield sister. Only to look around confused. No battlefield was around her. Just the trees, green light through the fog that seemed like Disney villain magic. The snow's cold chill.
"My name…" Kat started shakily grabbing her temples. "Rothrina…Warren…" She shook her head. "No…that's wrong." She looked up seeing Guðr walking away. "Wait! Please, don't make me do it!" She ran forward, full Norse accent.
She turned the corner and then she saw bits of the battlefield. Bodies, carts, downed horses. Guðr stood, the end of her spear pointed at Kat.
"Guðr, you must leave…this…" Kat hissed as she rushed forward. "You're in danger, sister!"
"Very well, if you wish to die by my blade…" Guðr asked as she readied her spear.
Kat couldn't let it happen. She had to keep her sister safe…like before. She threw herself onto the spear with a scream of pain. The feeling of its razor-sharp point cutting into her gut knocked the air from her after her pained cry.
"So be it…" Guðr gritted as Kat felt the pain of several pointed objects hitting her back making her gasp on her blood.
A flash of her sister's armor as they fell forwards brought Kat out of that hallucination. She vaguely saw the cracked wall as she shuddered on her hands and knees. Pain spasming through her being. She could hear Baba Yaga's laugh on the air as she looked at the crack.
"Baba…Yag…Yaga…" Kat coughed wetly as if she'd been injured.
"Come and see…"
Kat coughed as she crawled forward and struggled to her feet. As she stood, she limped in staggered steps toward the crack. One hand shakily holding her stomach as she walked forward. She struggled through the crack freezing up part way as she coughed. She then fell threw it, weakly falling to her knees again.
When she lifted her head, she saw…Leon…and Lara…? Who were the names that came to mind? No…she knew them. Lara…her friend. Leon her…what was he?
Lara turned around then. She looked sick from something, but it was hard to focus. "Do you have something wrong with you? How many times are you going to die, forget, and remember?"
Kat choked on blood as she stared at Lara.
"Don't bring any of that up, Lara." Leon said sounding defensive.
"Why shouldn't I? Why do you care?" Lara asked glaring at Leon. "Don't you have that red dress whore? Isn't she better then Kat and Claire combined?"
Kat coughed again as she tried to stand, feeling weight on her back.
"I mean, you're not wrong, I like Ada. I love a good chase. But that's not we're talking about." Leon looked at Kat along with Lara.
"It's your fault you die every time. You trusted Irons, you fell from the cliff, you took the spear and arrows." They said eerily at the same time.
"You should just lay on your side and stay dead." Lara said.
The trees and ground shook. They all looked to the trees. Kat fell back with a gasp as she saw it. A house walked through the trees. A hut on black chicken legs.
"That's…not possible…" Lara breathed as she followed the passing house with her eyes. "it's…it's just a myth…"
"It's…those are chicken legs…" Leon couldn't believe it. "No way…"
"It's not…" Kat coughed as she struggled to stand. "It can't be real…"
"She's here." An eerily female voice called. "I'm sorry, Kata. There is no return." She said darkly. "You're going to rot out there."
"-going to rot out there." The witch said with a dry laugh.
Kat saw both Leon and Lara run down the path, she pushed herself to follow, but was slower than them both. She looked at her feet, as if willing them to move. Looking back up she saw Leon was looking back at her and, was he slowing down for her? They turned a bend and came to some ruins and a broken wooden bridge near a rushing river. She tripped on something, or maybe she felt her injured legs give out and her body couldn't hold the weight of her. But she needed to get away from this, for her girls. She started to crawl after Leon and Lara.
"Kat!" She heard Leon shout.
She looked up to see him rushing over. But just as he reached her, he looked to the left at the sudden orange. Kat followed his gaze and choked at the sight of fire and the Baba Yaga's hut amongst it. Looking like it was from Helheim.
"Dagon Ahk May Gott Ang Korl!" Baba Yaga yelled from her hut.
The hut came closer and fire flew at them from the hut's open doors. It hit what was left of the bridge and sent them all diving to the icy ground.
"Shub Noor Go Awf An KA!" Baba Yaga yelled furiously.
Fire rained down from the doors but didn't hit anyone. The ground ripped open, and wolves came from it. They were smoky and had eyes of the fires of Helheim, glowing with anger. Kat felt herself fall back as she pulled her knife and felt Leon push her behind him. She saw the wolves vanish as Lara's arrows hit and Leon's bullets exploded them. She turned and yelled as a wolf leapt on her and pushed her to the ground, she screamed as it bit into her forearm.
She started stabbing the wolf's neck and side blindly. The wolf whimpered as it pulled away from her. She yelled as she kicked the wolf away and struggled to her feet feeling pain in her stomach, her back, arms, legs, and now painful forearm that felt like it had been ripped.
"Kat?" Leon asked her worriedly as he pointed his gun at the wolf, shooting it.
The wolf dropped to the ground, melting into a black sludgy pool. Kat looked at Leon in pain. Her vison was getting harder to focus on things. Here she was again, being the most hurt in her group.
"KAR ZHO SHUGG CH'TOLLA!" Baba Yaga yelled from her hut making the wolves vanish and her hut moved forward.
They looked up at the hell house on bird's legs. It moved closer from the cave. They could somewhat make out the witch standing on the porch part of the house. She looked like she was in horns, feathers, and furs.
"No…" Lara shook her head. "This…Oh god…" She looked at Leon and Kat then back at the hut. "This can't…"
"Baba…Yaga…can't…flowers…" Kat tried to say, remembering the pollen vaguely, but felt her legs shaking, her heart racing too fast.
Leon looked at Kat seeing she was going to fall over. He gave up on holding his gun and holstered it before catching her and holding her up. "Flowers?" Leon asked confused.
The hut then jumped down and before the three, making them back up.
"KORR AH CHAK LI RAH!" Baba Yaga shouted at them as fire raged at them.
They backed up from the house that stocked toward them, spitting fire. Baba Yaga waved at them, as if becoming them to enter her hut.
"Come." She crooned. "Your sisters await you…"
"Not real…" All three gasped as they came to the edge of a cliff, where the river was.
"It's not…" Lara gasped as the house lifted a leg with its sharpened talons.
"I've got you Kat…" Leon breathed into Kat's ear as he felt his heel hit the edge of the cliff. "I…I'm not letting you go."
Kat looked back at Leon then the hut. "We…need to move…"
"No." Lara looked at the cliff and at Leon and Kat seeing Kat's eyes were fluttering. "No…"
They fell as the orange and green light of the world was interrupted by the three hitting the water. Lara on her back, Leon, and Kat on their shoulders. The world went black for Kat…
