CH. 2
"I was still a young knight when the council decided I was ready for an apprentice. Surprisingly, I was entrusted with a young prodigy. His name was Barric Windreaver, a shaggy haired human. The boy was headstrong, and…" he looked at Jim, who sat wide-eyed on the ground, and he smiled, "and he didn't take no for an answer."
"The boy was powerful beyond words. But he was very stubborn, and very competitive. He blew the other students away during drills and sparring; I remember once when a young knight questioned the boy's discipline in combat, and so Barric challenged him in the ring. With seemingly no effort, my apprentice dispatched the knight, who, in his thorough embarrassment, attained reassignment to the Praxeum* on Yavin 4.
He grew up in this manner, performing many services for the Order across the galaxy, from protection to enforcement, even courier work; and he never complained about the jobs they placed him on. I, however, was a little shaken, in that they were sending him out on solo missions by the age of thirteen, just a little older than you.
We went on missions together of course, but it wasn't long before he was officially knighted, at the age of fifteen, and was set out on his own permanently. He would consult me, at times, for advice, but otherwise, Barric could do everything by himself.
