"Sam, Sam, Sam"

"Shut up"

"Oh good, I got your attention"

"I'm sleeping, Gabriel, what do you want?"

"Nothing"

Sam sat up with a jolt and turned to glare at the smirking archangel. "You're telling me, you woke me up for nothing?"

"Yep, it was very important"

"I hate you." Sam rolled over, his back to Gabriel, tight with tension.

"No you don't." Gabriel wrapped himself around his human, laying his head on top of Sam's, cheek to cheek.

"Come on, Gabriel, this is the third time this week. You need to let me sleep."

Two fingers to his forehead later, Sam was out, waking only the next morning to Dean humming Metallica in the shower.

Gabriel was nowhere to be found. The only evidence of the archangel was a note on the bedside table in elegant script.

Sam,
I won't return until the hunt is over. Don't worry its angel business.

Yours
Gabriel

Sam put the note in his duffle, thinking nothing of it. Gabriel often left claiming he'd be gone for a week, only to return the next day to cuddle with Sam on a night before bed.

The hunt went as bad as it could for the Winchesters, both gaining their fair share of cuts and bruises. They were no closer to ganking the monster at the end of the night than they were at the beginning. If anything, it now knew it was being hunted and despite being injured was probably onto them. They boys decided that they would go after it again the next night.

Removing his over shirt and jeans, Sam all but fell into the bed, curling his arms around the pillow. He winced slightly he landed on a particularly painful bruise. He closed his eyes waiting for his angel to come and smother him as per usual, only to open them again when it became clear that wasn't going to happen.

Sam spent the night praying and rolling over in the bed trying in vain to either call his angel or get some sleep.

Fuck, Sam thought. He couldn't get to sleep without the pint-sized archangel with him. Fuck.

The next day boded even worse for Sam. Sleep deprived, he almost got himself killed before Dean had rammed his knife into the beast's side preventing it from making Sam its next meal.

Dean had to help Sam back to the motel, his injuries preventing him from walking steady on his own. His leg dull with pain, a couple of broken ribs hindering his ability to breathe.

They had reached the motel fairly quickly, Dean leaving Sam on his bed before he reached for the first aid kit. He was just about to reach for an antiseptic wipe when a ruffle of wings caused him to look back.

Gabriel was sat at Sam's side, healing him without a second thought before wrapping himself around his human's body tightly. Sam responded by wrapping his arms around Gabriel almost as tightly.

"Stay with me tonight?"

"Always."

"Wait, what?" came Dean's slightly amused voice from the other side of the room.

The archangel fixed Dean with a glare made to kill. It didn't stop Dean from continuing though.

"You're telling me, Samantha that you can't sleep without Shorty here with you?"

Sam's blush was instant and deep red.

"At least I don't sleep with a picture of Cas under my pillow with my gun"

It was that moment that Castiel decided to appear in the room. Sam and Gabriel couldn't take it, laughing hard as the latter clicked his fingers once.

"Where'd you put them?"

"Next door" was all Gabriel offered before pushing his human down and wrapping himself around Sam, like a blanket.

"Sleep, Sammy"

His only answer was a soft snore.

Gabriel smiled.
