Shortly after the sun came up Luke snuck down the stairs quietly wearing his tuxedo pants and fitted white t-shirt. He began making coffee trying not to wake Rory. While he was hunting in the cupboards for something to make for breakfast he heard Rory's door open.
"What are you looking for?" Rory asked.
"Anything resembling ingredients for a breakfast."
Rory went to a cupboard and grabbed a box of Pop Tarts.
"You can't be serious," Luke said with a raised eyebrow.
"Come on, Luke. I gave you guys my blessing to be together, have a Pop Tart with me." She opened the silver pack and placed the tarts in the toaster, found two small plates and smiled at him.
"There's no protein, it's basically an inside out cake for breakfast."
The tarts popped and Rory plated them and poured them milk.
"Really?" He asked.
She pushed the plate towards him, "This is a Lorelai Gilmore classic." Rory grinned as she took a bite of her Pop Tart and moaned. "Mmmm, So good."
Luke shook his head and took a bite of the Pop Tart. He was shocked that it wasn't repulsive. He didn't gag on the taste or texture. He tried to make a face like it sickened him but he just ended up laughing.
"You like it!" Rory said excitedly.
"I wouldn't go that far!"
"You didn't spit it out."
"I don't want to be rude."
"Are you going to finish it?"
"Do you want it?" Luke asked hopefully.
"You really can't finish one? Mom and I usually have two each. I gave you the strawberry one."
"Do you think there is actually anything resembling a real strawberry in this?"
The two laughed, Luke winked at her and finished his Pop Tart.
Neither of them noticed Lorelai had come down the stairs and was watching them from the doorway.
As Luke took a bite of the Pop Tart a small click noise was heard and both he and Rory looked towards the door. They saw Lorelai in her pyjamas giggling with her camera.
"Did you just take a picture of me eating a Pop Tart?" Luke asked
"Yup!"
"Delete it!" He demanded but the spark in his eyes betrayed him.
"No way!"
Luke got up from his chair and began towards her. Lorelai squealed and began to run away. Luke was after her and Rory was laughing at the table.
"Rory, help!" Lorelai called from the living room.
Luke had Lorelai cornered when Rory entered the room, they were laughing as Lorelai pretended to go one way and Luke dove for her.
Lorelai tossed the camera to Rory who caught it (surprising everyone) and she sprinted to her room.
Luke sighed and shook his head, "Fine, keep the picture. Just don't show it to anyone." He flopped onto the couch and tried to catch his breath. "Did you two plan that? Her using her Bambi eyes to get me to try the Pop Tart and you hiding with the camera?"
Lorelai snuggled next to him on the couch, "I wish I had pre-planned that. Nope, it was just a beautiful moment that I stumbled across that I needed to make a Kodak moment. I know you said you would do anything for Rory, but I never thought you would eat a Pop Tart!"
Luke's head was resting on the back of the couch, his eyes were closed and one arm was wrapped around Lorelai, his hand gliding up and down her arm. "Come on, I love her as if she was my own. I'd kill for her, I'd give her my organs, I'd walk through fire for her."
Lorelai kissed his cheek and then noticed Rory in the doorway, her eyes filled with tears.
Rory turned and went back to her room and Lorelai got off the couch and followed her. She knocked on Rory's door while slowly pushing it open.
"Sweets? You okay?"
Rory was nervously pacing, when they made eye contact Lorelai could see the worry all over her daughter's face.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"Mom, I know I gave you and Luke my blessing but it just hit me how huge this is!"
"I know, but I'm trying to focus on this new, fun aspect of our relationship, I don't want to think about the hugeness yet."
"But Mom, this isn't just a big deal for you. You get that, right? Luke is a part of my life, I have my own relationship with him, besides the fact that I count on him for practically ninety percent of my meals. If things blow up with you two, it will affect me too. Last night, it felt right having Luke be there in the Dad role. What if he never wants to talk to me again because I have your eyes?"
"So you don't want me to date him?" Lorelai's voice was filled with disappointment.
"It's not that, I just wish you guys were married already so I didn't have to worry about you breaking up."
"That's cute, you know even if people are married they can break up."
There was a soft knock on the doorframe, "Rory?" The Gilmore Girls turned to see Luke there. "I know this seems all new, but I've loved you and your Mom for almost the full six years that I've known you. I love you together and I love you separately. I promise you, no matter what happens between your Mom and I, you and I will always have our own relationship. I will always be here for you if you still want me."
Rory walked over to Luke and held out her pinky finger, "Pinky promise?"
Luke smiled and wrapped his pinky around hers, "Pinky promise!"
Rory released from the pinky lock and hugged Luke.
"And just so you know Kid," Luke said with his arms around Rory but locking eyes with Lorelai, "I'm in this for the long haul with your Mom too. I know it seems scary to change our relationships but we know each other. We know the good, the bad and everything in between. We will call each other out on our crap, like if she tries to pull away or if I stop communicating, we'll call each other out or you can call us out."
"I will," Rory said into his chest.
Suddenly the three of them were pulled from the quiet moment when there was a knock at the door followed by a loud voice, "Sugas, how did the ball go? Is everything okay? I see Luke's truck is still here!"
"Oh geez," Luke sighed.
"The whole town knows by now that your car is here. We might as well just get married already," Lorelai laughed on her way to answer the door.
"Or Move!" Luke offered.
