A:N So, we got more angst here…not that dark though. I've decided I'm tired of cake today, so if you review, you get cheesecake instead. I know, I know, cheesecake is still technically cake, but whatever. PLEASE REVIEW!

The Doctor sat on a park bench in Chiswick, 2012.

Donna Noble would pass through this park each week after she had purchased groceries. She chatted idly on her mobile phone, much like she had done the night the Earth was stolen, so long ago, and yet not really long at all.

"So I told Nerys, and of course she couldn't keep her mouth shut, so she told Veena…"

She passed the stranger on the bench, and did not notice as he gazed at her sadly.

The Doctor sighed. At least she seemed happy.

Donna shifted her groceries to put away her phone, and in doing so dropped most of the load.

Before he knew what he was doing, he literally ran to help her.

"Here, let me help you with that."

"Yeah, thanks mate," she muttered.

She regained her hold on the bags and walked away. The Doctor went the opposite way.

After a few paces, she turned and looked back at him. There was something familiar about him. Something lost and forgotten. Something…

And a sharp pain in her head. She turned and continued walking, rubbing her temples and chiding herself for staring at the backs of strangers.

7 seconds later, the Doctor turned back to look at her, one last time. He felt his eyes grow wet, and a single tear rolled down his cheek.

Seeing Donna again had made him feel better, remembering their good times together. But it also made him feel worse, remembering what he had lost, and what he would never have again. Because unfortunately, he had to keep running.

He sniffed and wiped away the tear. There were things to do before he answered the Ood's summon.
