A mouse crept along in the leaves. The mouse made a loud sound. A nearby cat heard him. The cat had a sleek black coat with gray dots spotted on it. The cat had crouched down, almost on his tummy. The cat crept along making no noise. Soon it came across a big leaf pile. The leaves slightly crunched but the mouse could not hear it. The cat was about to pounce on its prey but then a loud yelp raced through the air.
The mouse ran away and it's predator stood there stricken with fear.
He knew that yelp. He ran through the forest and smelt the fresh blood and new kits. Then she was by the side of another cat. She was a beautiful one, had a nice white coat with big black splotches on it. "Spottedleaf, what happened?" He asked looking down at another cat. She was a queen with three kits. She had a gray coat with black and white stripes.
The cat, appeared to be Spottedleaf, kept her eyes on the queen. "She lost too much blood. I'm sorry Graystar but there is nothing I could do." The queen started to move. Graystar sat down next to the queen. "What is it Honeypaw?" He said to the queen. Her feet were the color of honey. It was beautiful gold color.
The queen dared not to open her eyes. "I need you to..." She trailed off struggling to speak. Graystar got closer to his mate. "I need you to take care of the⦠the kits." She said finally getting it out. Graystar let out a deep breathe. He hung on to every word she had said.
Honeypaw's breathing slowed and soon it stopped. Graystar stood up but dared not to show his defeat with death. Spottedleaf stepped in front of him and looked at Honeypaw and her kits. "Graystar, will you please leave." She more of told than asked. Graystar nodded and ran out the cave and left Spottedleaf to her duties.
