Chapter 5: The Mercenary and the dragon.

Yang found herself wondering why his baby sister was happier than usual, especially since she arrived quite late the other day. Yang watched her sister's behavior closely, no matter what happened she was happy; Weiss was mean, meh, didn't matter, lost a test? She said that happens from time to time. At this point Yang started wondering if her little sister was starting to lose her mind so she decided to do some interrogation work, big sister style.

Later during the day she finds his sister alone in the bedroom playing on her scroll while Blake and Weiss were out, it was the perfect spot to get some juicy information on what had her sister so happy. Yang sits by her side, crossing her legs.

"Hey sis, how's it going?"

"Hey Yang! I'm doing good, how about you?" Ruby extends the same courtesy while continuing playing.

"I'm good" Yang smiles as she takes the scroll from Ruby.

"Wait, I'm almost done with the level!" Ruby cries.

"Now now sis, we need to talk" Yang fakes a serious tone.

"Oh no, I'm in trouble aren't I?" Ruby asks worried.

"Depends on the answer" Yang continues faking the tone.

"Okay, they shoot at us first, we didn't want to get involved but they started shooting and we decided to follow them in Tony's bike" Ruby starts spilling the beans, but wasn't the answer she wanted.

"Wait, that thing on the news? That was you and Tony?!" Yang asks surprised.

"Er…" Ruby scratches her cheek "...no"

"Sis, that was you oh my god" Yang grabs Ruby by the shoulders "Tell me all about it!"

Ruby laughs nervously and tells Yang what happened, of course Ruby didn't tell her sister the part with the demons, she swore to Tony that she would keep it a secret. A smile drew in Yang's face, her sister went ahead and stopped some criminals, she was proud of her but something was off…why Ruby was with Tony?

"I feel like you aren't telling me something?" Yang asks, faking the tone again.

"About that" Ruby tries to think of something to throw her sister of the scent "I think i left behind that Tony and I went to the movie theater, watched some movies and then went to eat ice cream"

"Hold on little sis…Tony invited you?" Yang's jaw was starting to drop.

"Actually, I was the one that invited him" Ruby confesses.

"Oh my god…" Yang's jaw dropped harder, she couldn't believe it.

Ruby watched Yang's expression of disbelief, she was wondering what got to her. Ruby just asked Tony to hang out with her, why was that so surprising or shocking?

"Yang?" Ruby asks her sister, a bit worried.

"I don't know if I should be angry or happy" Yang left a single tear on her left eye "You asked Tony for a date and actually had it…"

"Date?" Ruby starts laughing.

"Don't laugh, it's a serious matter okay?!" Yang gets worked up "I've flirted with the guy and he never bites!"

"We just hung out, it wasn't a date at all Yang" Ruby shrugs it off, but her sister wasn't stopping there.

"Sis, you spent a whole day with a guy, only the two of you, watched movies together, had fun, ate ice cream together then went into a bike chase together" Yang was actually jealous of her sister.

Ruby wanted to shrug it off but when Yang put it that way, she had a lot of fun and went into an adventure then into a horror adventure but had fun at the end of the day. Ruby tried to shrug it off as just two friends hanging out but her sister's words made sense.

"Oh my god…I had a date with Tony" Ruby said blushing, she was naive but when facts are pointed out she couldn't deny it anymore.

"The only worse thing would be if he hugged you from behind tightly and stroked your cheek" Yang says, annoyed.

"Yeah…" Ruby's face gets a deeper shade of red remembering what he did in the forest to calm her down.

"Oh my god…Imma kill Tony" Yang says, noticing her sister's reaction.

Yang stands up and leaves the room running, looking for Tony. Yang needed answers from Tony because she was in big sister protective mode after seeing Ruby's reaction and besides that, she was also jealous of her little sister. Yang didn't find on the library, didn't find him in the cafeteria, didn't find him in the training area nor his room. Yang spent a good two hours looking for Tony but didn't find him. Thankfully for him, she managed to calm down but still wanted to interrogate him.

Tony finally arrived in his bedroom, he had a box of pizza in one hand and in the other he had a long box. He left the long box by his bed then grabbed a magazine named "Red jackets and coas monthly" he was looking for a new remplacement for the one he lost or get one custom made. Tony laid on his bed, reading the magazine and eating his pizza, to his annoyance, it had olives.

"Tony Redgrave!" someone yelled as the door got slammed

Tony almost jumped from his bed and started choking with his pizza coughing like crazy. Tony only thought in annoyance. Not this again, it was the second time it happened. Tony looked up to see Yang with an annoyed expression and that wasn't good, this must be something related to Ruby.

"Okay, you don't seem happy, is this about Ruby?" Tony cuts to the chase "The bike chase was part of her idea and she was capable enough of handling herself"

"No, the bike chase is fine, i would have done the same thing" Yang's expression didn't get better "I can't believe you had a date with my sister!"

"A date? we only hung out" Tony shrugs off.

"Are you sure it wasn't a date Tony?"

"A hundred percent" Tony nods "I know it looked like one, a boy and a girl, going alone to the movies then eating ice cream, sounds like a date alright but I never saw it that way nor Ruby did. It's not like i was trying to woo your sister"

"But she did blush when I pointed it out" Yang crosses her arms.

"Only because you point it out" Tony sighs annoyed "You know she can be naive sometimes and is inexperienced in that field"

"And what about the tight hug?"

"Yeah, about that…" Tony was hoping Ruby didn't spell the beans on demons, he needed to throw Yang of the scent "...She told me about her mother"

"So she did…" Yang's expression changed immediately.

"Yup, i can understand her" Tony said sitting down "So, calmed down yet?"

"A bit, yeah but…" Yang smirks "You owe me a date"

"Why?" Tony didn't like the idea.

"Because you had one with my sister and i'm not going anywhere until you say we are having a date and what we are doing?" Yang puts her hands on her hips with a grin on her face.

"Fine, whatever" Tony starts thinking on what he should do, he then remembered that Yang is a hand to hand fighter "So, what about if we do a bit of training together, i'm sure you are itching to fight me and you seem capable enough…unless you are scared"

"Oh you are on" Yang smiles liking the idea "I just hope your fist can Yang in in there with mine"

"Oh god you do puns…" Tony facepalms "Is tomorrow alright?"

Yang nods and leaves Tony alone, he lets himself fall to his bed, annoyed but it was a good thing she agreed to train with him. Tony was thinking that his hand to hand combat was lacking since he didn't even think of using it against the Enigmas, he is relying too much on his sword and guns. Tony blamed himself that he got Ruby in that situation, if only he was stronger he would have been able to deal with the demons before Ruby got injured, he needed more power.

The next day in the training arena

Tony and Yang found themselves in front of each other, both on guard and the best thing, no one was watching so they didn't need to hold back…or at least what was thinking Yang; Tony on the other hand wanted to know how strong she was before deciding how much he needed to hold back. They also agreed on not using guns, bullets or swords, Yang could use Ember celica but couldn't shoot Tony, she agreed.

"Are you ready for this handsome?"

"Hope you can keep up" Tony beckons yang to come at him.

Yang immediately runs towards Tony, throwing a punch that Tony blocks, he then throws one of his one. Yang deflects the punch answering with an uppercut making Tony step back avoiding the hit. Tony had to admit, Yang was fast and strong, she was on her field so he could step it up a notch. Tony dashes towards Yang, starting doing a combo of attacks first starting with a straight punch that is blocked, then a liver blow that connects and to finish it off with a rising kick that also connects.

Yang after being hit by the kick recovers quickly and while Tony's foot is still up she does a sweep kick making Tony fall; Yang continues and using the momentum punches Tony on the ground, right on the stomach. Tony felt this rhythm was good for training so he decided to continue,, no need to hold back. Tony stood up with a smile on his face and rushed again, the two brawlers exchanged blows for a while, dodgin, parrying, blocking and the best thing of all, they were having fun.

"You sure know how to make a woman sweat" Yang says, panting a bit.

"I have my moments" Tony shrugs it off as he gets back in guard.

They rush to each other again throwing a punch at the same time that connects with each other, Yang tries to uppercut Tony but he kicks her hand away with his right leg and with that same leg he does a heel kick dropping Yang to the ground. The girl stood up ready for another round, Tony just taunted her to come at him with his hand then getting into the peekaboo boxing style, waiving from one side to the other.

Yang started attacking again, but Tony dodged the attacks, waving from one side to the other. Everytime he dodged he threw a punch, being a jab or a hook, he was about done with this fight.

"Stop dodging!" Yang yelled, getting frustrated.

"Pick up the pace babe" Tony smirked.

Yang let the frustration get the better of her, throwing a hook; Tony saw it coming from miles ago, ducking so he avoid it and at the same time took a second to charge an attack then realizing a move he hiles to call the "Raising dragon" Launching himself an Yang in the air. The move took Yang by surprise and even more when she was in the air, she saw the hammer punch Tony did in the air, blocking it at the last moment but it had enough strength to send her to the ground. Yang quickly flipped to regain stability and landed in the ground sliding away from Tony.

"Come on babe!" Tony crossed his arms "You are making it too easy"

Yang fell victim to his taunting, her anger boiled and her eyes turned red, Tony noticed that and got himself on guard again. Yang punched the ground and the surroundings lit aflame, she also appeared to be in flames. Sadly, this was enough for Tony to start getting a headache, seeing a woman of blond hair surrounded and in fire triggered him, he lost himself in a flashback.

Yang didn't notice that Tony was having an episode, putting her hands behind her, she used the shotgun installment of ember celica to launch herself flying towards Tony. Yang took enough damage for her semblance to deal a lot of damage, she was sure this would end the fight as she came closer to Tony. She threw a punch that connected with him but he didn't move, he took it all in his face then got thrown immediately against a wall, he was covered by the dust of the impact. Yang noticed too late that he was having an episode.

"Tony?!" She yelled worried, feeling regret instantly.

As the dust cleared off she saw Tony stuck in the wall, his head was bleeding from the impact of her punch, he was busted open the hard way but why? Tony didn't take a lot of punches or damage for his aura to break and then it clicked in her brain…he doesn't have an aura.

"Oh my god Tony, i'm so sorry" She said, realizing she could have killed him.

"What are you talking about?" Said Tony as he started to laugh, getting unstuck from the wall "You are the first human to make me bleed like this"

"Wha…" She couldn't register what he said in her mind.

"Now, let's go crazy baby!" Tony Smirked.

In an instant he was in front of her and did a combination of punches and kicks making her step back. She barely saw him get close to her, he was faster than before. She threw a flurry of punches at Tony as answering his challenge he just dodged them all and stepped to the side and pushed her away with his hip of all things.

"Oh, I love a fast woman" Said Tony mocking her

"Oh shut up!" Yang was starting to lose it.

"If you don't pick up this dance, i might end up falling asleep standing" Tony continued mocking her.

Yang realized what was happening, Tony wasn't like before, he was cocky, way too cocky from what she remembers, it was talking to a different person like Nell said. Yang needed to make him snap out of it and the only way to do it in her mind was to punch him like she did before but everytime she tried to hit him, he avoided it, she wasn't connecting any hits at all. Tony avoided, laughed and countered any of Yang attacks, she quickly got her red eyes again.

"As much as I love dancing with you babe" Tony got in guard again "It's about time we finish this"

"I agree" she activated her semblance again but she noticed something different in him, there was a glint of red in his blue eyes.

She did the move she did before as Tony did a move he called the "Straight" with both closing the distance between each other. Both hits connected, Yang hit Tony's face but it felt like hitting a solid wall of steel while he punched her in the chest sending her flying and rolling in the ground, her aura broke.

"You are too hot headed, making you predictable Yang but it was a funfight" Tony said as he kneeled, starting to feel the damage that was done to him.

"I'll keep it in mind…It was fun though…" Yang stood up, gasping for air, she was still feeling pain from that last hit.

"We should do it again one of these days but now…i gotta sleep" As Tony finished saying that he collapsed to the ground, he was out.

Tony found himself in a black, deep space, he thought as the void. He was floating but was able to stand and walk. It was a weird experience in his mind and the only thing he could think was "What the hell is this?". Tony walked for a while until he found something, a red fog, filled with sparks with a shadow silhouette inside. Tony could feel its power, like something he never felt before and to his surprise…it spoke.

"Let me out!" Said the silhouette in a distorted, feral voice.

In that moment Tony felt fear, a deep fear making him stand still. The silhouette continued saying "Let me out!" over and over again, every time getting more aggressive and louder while its power grew and then…Tony opened his eyes. He was staring at the lights of the training area, he also felt a softness in the back of his head. He turned around to see Yang and her breast, doing quick math he realized his head was on her tights, great.

"Oh hey, you are awake" Yang said.

"I guess I am" Tony said, sitting but was stopped by Yang's hand.

"Nope, you need to rest, you were out cold for five minutes handsome"

"But aren't you uncomfortable with me like this babe?" Tony said a bit embarrassed, he might be a bit flirty but he is self aware.

"Hey, it's your punishment for falling asleep and making me take care of you, also bandaging your head" Yang smirked knowing this was her win.

"Ugh, fine, whatever" Tony sighed annoyed.

"Say Tony…" Yang starts saying, she had a question in mind "...Why you never accept my advances?"

"Yang…" Tony sighted, knowing that this question would come at some point "Look, you are a great girl, you can fight, you can talk and you have a body that would drive any man crazy"

"I'm expecting a but aren't i?" She sighs.

"But i'm not looking for a relationship with anyone at the moment" Tony stands up and looks at Yang in the eyes "I have a lot of skeletons in the closet, lots of them. You are my friend, let's stay like this okay?"

Yang let a big sigh go out her lungs, she felt disappointed, she got rejected but in a way she felt good. Tony said she is attractive and could fight among other things, meaning that he did saw her as a woman. Tony wasn't ready for a relationship but in the future he might, she wasn't losing hope yet, she looked into a different perspective.

"Oh well, i got rejected" She said standing up too "Anyway, thanks for the fight"

"Anytime" Tony says stretching "You actually got once and made me to get serious for a moment"

"About that…your aura?" Yang was wondering about that too.

"Don't have one, already explained to Goodwitch and everything" Tony crosses his arms, another thing he expected.

"Does Ruby know?" Yang continues asking questions to his annoyance.

"She doesn't, i've been meaning to tell her but she's been so happy lately that i don't want to change her mood" Tony gives a smile, he did really enjoy his day with Ruby and doesn't want to worry her.

Yang saw that smile, it was warm for someone who's been hurt for a long time, maybe she isn't the one who'll enter his heart, she hated to admit it if she was honest. Yang then remembers the reaction of his sister and how he smiled, maybe Ruby is the one who'll help him up and enter his heart.

"Oh well, i've been rejected" Yang shrugs it off.

"I'm sorry babe, but that's how it works for me" He said then his scroll started ringing, he groaned as he picked it up "send me the location, i'll be there soon."

"Gotta get to work?"

"Yep, got a party to join and crash" Tony says stretching.

"Before you go…thank you for taking Ruby out" Yang says with a smile but then changes her expression "But if you break her heart i'll kill you myself.

Tony's expression was serious but then he laughed and shrug its off "Whatever babe"

AUTOR NOTES.

Meow meow Meowthertruckers, another chapter has been completed.

So, I have to start with the music now because of something that happened inside the chapter. I've been listening to the OST of the games, especially Subhuman, my kind of song by the way but it has a strong message about Dante's struggle with his demon side and his nature even though he has accepted it already, How to control his instincts and when to let them run wild.

It's the first glance we get to Dante's demon side or well, Tony's demon side in this case and his own nature because so far, i've written that he believes that he is human but this demon side of him that he doesn't know will start making him question himself, Is he really human or is he something else completely? He is subhuman, he is in the middle and he needs to start learning how to control his demon side and when to let it out. as the song says, to know when "I must explode"

One of the signs that I'm making was after he took that heavy blow from Yang, his blood awakened for a slight second making feel stronger (i'll add to it in the story itself on how he felt and why he got more cocky), only getting a really small fraction of what he is capable of, enough to win the fight. so that's my train of thought on this chapter. Now moving into Yang's side of things and of course she would be jealous, the guy she is gunning for got into a date with his sister while she, being so straightforward has gotten her nowhere and the rejection from him, off, must sting a bit IMO, not that i know that, i'm a loner after all.

Another thing that I did is to make it clear that Yang is not a romantic candidate. I already specified the two romantic candidates, Ruby and Weiss and Yang realized that maybe there is something more between Tony/Dante and Ruby by their reactions, Yang being the good sister she is gonna cheer for her sister.

For video games I haven't played anything lately, the reason is I've been mostly writing because my grandmother is in the hospital so my mind is a mess, a messy mess. aaaaalthought my plan is to start that DS3 Scythe Run soon.

Anyway, there weren't lots of reviews but I got one for the romantic score.
