Chapter One
Percy POV
I missed her. A lot. And it really stunk, because camp only ended two days ago, and school starts today. I had to go through a whole school year without seeing her. Sure, I'd done this many times before, but we weren't dating before.
"Percy!" my mom called, "Time for you to go!"
"Coming," I answered. I hugged and kissed my mom good bye before starting the walk to school. Paul had to leave a lot earlier than I did because he was a teacher. I honestly dreaded going to school. Not because I was a loser, or got picked on, because I was acutely pretty popular. I'm on the swim and basketball teams, and apparently I was pretty good look. At least, according to all the girls who had ever spoken to me. I had lots of friends, Nate, Tony, Tyler, and Max were just a small handful. I didn't really speak to the rest, but they spoke to me and always sat at my lunch table. Lots of kids would be like, wow your school life is perfect! How can you hate school? Well, like I said earlier, I missed her. I hated school because Annabeth Chase wasn't there.

"Hey Perce," Nate greeted me. I was at my locker, waiting for first period to start.
"Morning," I said, "ready for math?" When we compared schedules, we discover that we had every class together.
"I don't know," he said as we started walking towards the classroom. On our way there, we heard mean laughter from down the hallway.
"And the bullies strike again," Nate said. We turned in the direction of the noise to see what was going on. There was a wall of big, muscular dudes blocking someone's path. I assumed it was a girl, because you couldn't see them over the guys' heads.
"Come on," the leader was saying, "who can resist me?"
"I can," I heard the person's voice for the first time. It sounded very familiar, and my eyes widened when I realized who it was. I saw the guy advance.
"Hey!" I practically screamed. Nate gave me a look that said, what the heck are you doing? The bullies turned.
"You got something to say, Jackson?" The leader asked.
"Yeah," I answered, struggling to keep my cool, "leave her alone before I punch you." A crowd was starting to gather. The main guy, Mike, glared at me. I saw the girl escaping around the edges of the hallway.
"What are you going to do, Jackson?"
"I'm not going to hurt anyone," I turned my back and left. Nate followed me. I saw the girl standing at the back of the crowd, and when she saw me, she gave me a skeptical look.
"It looks like Seaweed Brain did something right for once," she said. Nate looked very confused. I ignored him, and the new crowd surrounding me and the 'mystery girl.' I went up to her and gave her a big hug, which she returned.
"I missed you, Annabeth," I said into her hair.
"It was only two days, Percy," she said pulling out of the hug, but she was still in my arms.
"So?" I said. She smiled.
"I missed you too," And with that, I gave her a kiss. It was short, but meaningful. School was starting to get better…
