Hardly a month later of Hope's return to The Big Easy, the Mikaelson family found themselves moving away, far further this time. There hadn't been news on Esther, they all assumed she would rather die than become a vampire and by the time they found Rebekah she was in the body of a teenager.
They had Davina and Kol to work on it, to find a way of placing her back in her immortal body but for the time being, it seemed like they would be forced to get used. But even if they mother was no longer a threat, Mikael still was around thirsty for revenge on Klaus.
They managed to come and go from New Orleans to the safe house unnoticed, but their luck would eventually run out and when that time comes, they all would like to be as far from Mikael as possible. That's how they ended up going to the last place Mikael would search for them.
"Mystic Falls, really?" Hayley complained, she wasn't quite fond of the place. "Mikael knows it's the first place we would go, but he also knows we're not stupid so he thinks we wouldn't come here." Rebekah explained, it was odd to hear her with her new voice.
"So, we come here because Mikael thinks this is the first place you would go and it's the first place he would look for you, but he thinks you already know that and that's why this is the last place you would go?" the former she-wolf asked with a furrowed brow.
"Pretty much." Klaus said without taking his eyes off the road "I give up." Hayley sighed leaning in her seat, trying to understand how this family worked would only give her a headache. "All that matters is that we'll be safe here." Elijah said, since his mother held him hostage the only think in his mind was Hope's safety, he would have never agreed to come here if he wasn't sure it was their best option.
"I thought everyone here hated you." Davina said from the back, as soon as she knew where they were heading she had Kol tell her everything about it. "Oh, they do. But from what I heard they have bigger problems than us right now." Klaus said with a grin, recalling in his mind how not even a week ago Damon called asking for his help to rescue the Bennett witch, even if he was grateful she bothered to warn about The Other Side collapsing he had better things to do than help the very same people that killed Kol... about Finn, he regretted not killing him himself when he had the chance.
"Home sweet hell." Kol muttered once they passed the 'Welcome to Mystic Falls' sign, the old Mikaelson mansion was not far now. Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah and Kol installed themselves back in their old bedrooms while Klaus made sure Hope and Hayley's bedrooms would be close to his, he wanted nothing more than keep his beautiful daughter at arm length and he knew Hayley felt the same.
Despite Kol's suggestion that they could share a room Davina found one of her own, it was far bigger than her bedroom in The Abattoir and that was something. Truth be told, everything in the mansion was huge, she couldn't imagine why the Mikaelsons ever left it here.
"Maybe we could pay our old friends a visit?" Klaus suggested, sooner or later they would have to make their presence known. "Oh god!" Kol gasped and everyone turned at him "What will the quarterback say of your new looks, Bekah?" Kol mocked and Rebekah barely resisted the temptation of magically throwing something at him, he clearly deserved it.
Hayley decided to stay at the mansion with Hope, she didn't want to face Tyler after he nearly killed her back in New Orleans, the last time she saw Caroline was while snapping her neck and about the rest of the Mystical Falls gang...she couldn't care less about them.
The rest of them, surprisingly including Davina went to the Mystic Grill, Rebekah was nervous about seeing Matt again, specially knowing he wouldn't recognize her not even if he had her in front of his nose, but luckily he was nowhere to be seen.
In his place they found Damon and a face way too familiar and undead "Weren't you dead?" Rebekah spatted, forgetting for a second that they wouldn't recognize her. Damon and Alaric turned and looked towards her with curiosity.
"Do I know you?" Damon asked, he couldn't place the petite dark-haired girl in front of him anywhere, yet, there was something about her tone that resulted awfully familiar. "Damon, don't you remember my sister Rebekah?" Klaus said with an amused grin and Damon nearly choked in his drink.
"Rebekah?" he questioned staring at her "In the flesh, a new flesh actually." she said taking his drink from him but when she was about to take a sip she found it gone "You're way too young to drink." Kol said mockingly, taking a sip himself.
"What happened to you?" Alaric asked Rebekah, who decided to snap at Kol later. "Mommy dearest came back from the dead, there was some body jump involved and say goodbye to the blonde hair." Kol answered for her and Damon and Alaric shot him a glance.
"Who's the British pretty boy? Got bored without Matt?" Damon asked Rebekah ignoring Kol "Oh I think we have already officially met, Kol Mikaelson." Kol introduced himself and Damon and Alaric widened in surprise "Couldn't you stay dead?" Damon snapped and Kol chuckled.
"I could say the same about you two. Rebekah here was willing to give up her quarterback to make sure Alaric died, yet, here he is. And you, we heard you blew up this very place." Kol said looking around, the place certainly looked different.
"What about you call our friends and tell them we're back, and don't worry, we won't kill anyone this time. I can pinky swear if you want." Klaus said leaning forward, he wanted to get over it for once, even if he had Kol, Davina and Rebekah place spells all over the house as soon as they arrived he couldn't risk Finn following them and finding Hayley and Hope alone.
Hayley was very capable of looking after their daughter and herself, but so was his brother, who right now would want nothing but avenge the death of Esther. "I wouldn't believe you anyway." Damon answered eyeing him warily, the Klaus he remembered wanted nothing but wipe them all from existence.
"We won't bother you as long as you keep yourselves as far from my home as possible, deal?" Klaus said and deep inside Damon felt the hybrid meant it. Damon narrowed his eyes in suspicion, in his old days Klaus would have threatened him to get what he wanted, no doubt the big bad hybrid was growing softer.
"Deal." Damon said eyeing them all, he had no desire to be near the Original Family longer than he had to, and he could tell everyone in Mystic Falls would feel the same way. Not long after they all left, Damon and Alaric made sure to call everyone and let them know that the Originals were back.
A few hours later, Caroline found herself in front of the Mikaelson household. This was the last place she should be and she knew it, yet, she wants to confront Klaus. After all he promised her he would never return and a year later here he was, breaking his promise.
She knocked the door before she had time to regret it, and right when she was about to leave Elijah opened the door. "Hi." she said awkwardly with a small smile, somehow she was glad it was Elijah. He had sort of helped them in the past, out of all the Originals he was the most reasonable one.
"What do you want?" Elijah asked not bothering to return the smile, and Caroline looked at her feet for a few seconds before meeting his eyes again "Can I come in?" she asked softly, she was about to take a step foward when Elijah answered "No." he answered bluntly and the blonde vampire was taken back by his response.
When she didn't know was that Elijah perceived not only her, but the whole Mystic Falls gang as a threat to the safety of his beautiful niece, he would kill them all without second thoughts if he had to. "There is something wrong?" Caroline asked noticing the odd behavior of the Original, he had always been nothing but a gentleman to them all, what had changed in the past year?
"You need to leave." he said, looking at her seriously "Elijah what it's taking you so long?" Hayley yelled, loud enough to Caroline to hear "Is that...?" Caroline asked but before she could answer Elijah had dragged her in, taking her by the neck and pressing her against the wall choking the air out of her.
"Elijah put her down!" Hayley yelled rushing to them "NOW!" she yelled again and Elijah let Caroline go, her hands went instinctively to her neck and taking deep breaths she managed to somehow calm herself. "What's going on?" Klaus appeared with Hope in his arms and he found Elijah with a scared expression against a wall muttering "Sorry." all over again, Caroline sitting in the floor breathing heavily and Hayley with a concerned expression next to her.
Caroline's eyes met Klaus and the baby he was holding, quickly she got up in her feet again "What the...?" Caroline muttered, staring at the innocent baby in shock. "Where did you get that baby from?!" the blonde vampire yelled, taking a step back.
"It's my daughter. Mine and Hayley's to be more exact." he said as Hayley walked next to him, Caroline's mouth dropped "How? I mean, you can't have- You're a vampire!" she exclaimed gesturing heavily "I'm a hybrid. Half vampire, half werewolf." Klaus said and Caroline stared at them three in realization.
"And werewolves can have children." she whispered, looking at Hope with genuine curiosity while the baby was reaching out to her mother. "What's her name?" she asked walking closer, "Hope." Hayley answered, picking up her daughter from Klaus. "I trust you won't tell anyone about her." Elijah said darkly and Caroline turned to face him "Why this secrecy? No one in Mystic Falls would harm an innocent baby, not even if it is Klaus' daughter!" Caroline said to Elijah defensively, but she was sure of her words.
"But you could tell someone who might, we didn't come here because we wanted to, but because we had to." Elijah said walking closer "So, you're in the run, now?" Caroline asked to no one in particular "Yes, but all that matters is that Hope is safe." Elijah said and Caroline found herself nodding.
"What made you leave New Orleans?" she asked, whatever it is... it had to be something powerful. "Mikael." Klaus whispered sadly and Caroline's eyes widened "Your father?! Did he come back to life?!" she asked alarmed. Mikael, the vampire who hunts vampires was no only a threat to the Original Family, but to all the vampires.
"He is not my father!" Klaus said with an angry tone, Caroline looked at him with a furrowed brow for a second. The whole time Klaus was in Mystic Falls he had always referred to Mikael as his father, clearly that had changed.
"What if he comes here? We all will be in danger!" Caroline asked alarmed for her friends, she couldn't and wouldn't lose them again. Not again and not while they still had to get Bonnie back, "Caroline, I'm sorry but I will always look after my family first. But if we suspect he's here you have my word we'll let you know before we flee." Klaus said calmly, with a quick glance towards Hope and Hayley when he mentioned his family.
Caroline got his point but she had a plan of her own, one that involved making sure Kai wouldn't bother them anymore "What if we could help you?" Caroline said, eyeing him carefully "We could help you look out for any sign of Mikael. You would have eight more people around town that would make sure Hope is safe." Caroline said with a small smile.
"Eight?" Hayley asked, she couldn't remember that many people the last time she was here. "Stefan, Elena, Damon, Alaric, myself... We also have new friends, two witches named Jo and Liv and a warlock named Luke." the blonde vampire explained. "In exchange of what?" Hayley asked, she knew better than to think that they would do this out of the kindness of their vampire hearts.
"There's a psychopath lose in Mystic Falls, his name is Kai. We have tried everything to stop him, but... he's supposed to merge with Jo the next full moon. Is she manages to overpower him everything will we fine, but if he overpowers her... we can't risk it, not if there's a choice." she said looking at her feet, she really hoped for them to accept the offer.
"Fine, call only those you trust and tell them to come here." Klaus said, despite Elijah's protests. "How do you know they can be trusted?" Elijah protested followed with a pleading glance towards Hayley "We're out of allies Elijah." Klaus tried to reason with him "Hayley?" Elijah looked at her, "I'm not saying I trust them, but if they're willing to make a truce with any of you after everything I know you've done to them they must be desperate enough. And... I think they're as scared of Mikael as we are." Hayley said, agreeing to a point with Klaus.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Klaus said with a smirk, not far from them Caroline had called Stefan, Elena and Damon and told them to come to Klaus' home, Damon had protested about it... a lot, but eventually told her he would be there as soon as possible.
An hour later, they all were discussing a plan to take Kai down. Once they finished Klaus decided it was time to tell them not only of Mikael being alive, but of his daughter as well. Hayley walked into the living room with Hope in her arms as casually as she could.
"You?! What are you doing here?!" Damon asked to Hayley, recognizing her. "She's family now." Klaus said taking Hope in his arms and everyone looked shocked "And this is my daughter, Hope Mikaelson." Klaus said looking lovingly -a look no one was used to- to the blue-eyes baby in his arms.
Everyone fell silent, looking to the baby and to Klaus and then to each other, none of them sure of what to say. "H-How?" Elena asked frowning and Klaus sighed knowing he would have to explain how he was able to have children all over again.
"I'm a hybrid, that means I'm half werewolf..." he said hoping they all would understand what came next, luckily they all seemed to "And who was stupid enough to sleep with you?" Damon asked, Klaus, Hayley and Elijah shot him a death glare.
"Go easy on Hayley, the poor girl was drunk." Rebekah said walking in "Rebekah." Damon greeted her and everyone's eyes widened "Rebekah?" Elena questioned shocked "In a new and human, well, witch body." Rebekah said with a smirk, she knew of Elena's desire to be human... at least it's what she used to desire.
"You look... different." Stefan said, not quite believing the teenager in front of him was Rebekah "What about me? Don't tell me you forgot me, darling." Kol said smirking walking in behind Rebekah "Kol." Elena said darkly, last time they meet he nearly killed her, let's say that in the list of the people she wished to see resurrected Kol wasn't exactly on the top.
"Elena Gilbert, long time. Tell me, how's your brother doing?" Kol asked with no longer a smirk, "Enough!" Hayley protested, they were here to become allies not to kill each other. Everyone's attention turned back to Klaus, Hayley and Hope.
Elena stood up, despite Damon trying to reach her hand, and walked to closer to Klaus and Hope not taking her eyes off of the baby. "What is she? Human? Vampire?" Elena asked curious, she would never believe of the existence of this baby if she didn't have the living proof right in front of her.
"Werewolf, probably." Klaus answered softly, when it came to Hope he couldn't help it. Elena was surprised he hasn't threatened to kill everyone they knew yet, fatherhood must be softening him. "She is beautiful." Elena said honestly, she couldn't help but be saddened she would never have a child of her own.
"She shouldn't even exist." Damon commented and Hayley's eyes shone yellow with hot rage, Damon was taken back by this. "So, what are you gonna do?" Stefan asked, noticing how much his brother was screwing up the situation. "You can't be in the run forever, it's not like in the 20's anymore." Stefan said to Klaus, even with his humanity off Stefan and Klaus had been friends, good friends for a time.
"We know, that's why we have to get ready to face Mikael." Hayley said, she kicked his vampire-hunter ass while being a werewolf, she couldn't wait to do the same as a hybrid. But to kill him once and for all, they needed the White Oak Stake something Finn had the last time they checked, and it's not like he was going to give it to them willingly.
