"Spring is nature's way of saying 'Let's party' "
~Robin Williams
Tobias POV
I hustled out of the Dauntless compound, ignoring the pain that shot through my back like tiny needles. I have to give it to the arrogant snob. He knows how to pack a punch. I turned away from the faction that shelters me towards the factionless sector. I had to make my visit with my mother quick. I don't want Tris to see me gone when she returns. Who knows what she'd say if she found out the truth. I don't really want to lie to her, but if it comes to it, lying might be my only option.
I walked over to a man in ragged clothing. "Can you take me to Evelyn?" I asked him.
"Sure," he said. He looked a bit surprised to see me, probably because of how I looked. The man pulled out a walkie talkie. "He's here," the man said into the speaker. A fuzzy voice came out of the speaker. I couldn't make it out. "As you wish," the man said before turning back to me.
"Follow me," he said before turning away. I walked through a few streets, past some broken homes, and sad looking all looked the same, but they seemed different than they did before. The people, no matter how bad their conditions were, seemed to have hope. There was a fire in their eyes, as if their chance would come soon, and they wouldn't fail to take it.
The man led me into a nicer looking home. The main room was empty. There was a new curtain hanging from one of the door.
"She's in there," the man said. He turned away and walked out of the house to return to his post.
I stepped in the room, and I saw my mother. The one who had "died" years ago. Though I've seen her before, I can't help but feel relieved and betrayed when I see her. She looked up at me.
"Mother,"I began, "I wanted to know if you knew anything about the Erudite's peculiar behavior."
"No," she said, "but I have noticed it. It's good to see you son." She looked at me curiously, as if she was observing my injuries, just as she had when I was kid.
"You too," I said through gritted teeth, not exactly lying. It was good to see her, alive. I remember the day of her funeral. The day she left me with him. Bitterness washed over me. She knew that she left me with the monster that is my father. She knew what he was capable with him. Yet, she left me with Marcus, to suffer his wrath while she hid away.
"Is that all you want, son?" she asked me.
"Yes, if you're sure you don't know anything about it. If you know anything that all, I'd love to hear it. I'd hate to think I made the trip over here for nothing," I spat the last part at her. The pain that was coursing through my back reminded me of what she left me with. She willingly left me with my abusive father.
"Well," she began, obviously a bit hurt, "I have hear whispers of something. Ive heard that the Erudite were going to cause a war. I don't know who they'll attack, or when, but they are preparing for a fight. And after that fight, there is chance for things to get better for the factionless. It could possibly give us our chance to be treated as equals."
I nodded, understanding. There was a brief silence before I spoke again. "Thanks for your help mother. I have to get back."
Evelyn lead me to the door. "If I know anything, I'll tell you," she said.
I gave her a half forced smile as I walked out the door and back to the Dauntless compound. She was mom. Nothing can change that. But those "shadowhunters", they can be changed.
Jace POV
Clary forced me out of the training area, where I had just beat the mighty Four. Not so tough now, is he? I smirked, as my victory today was yet another to add to my growing collection. There is nothing Number Dude can throw at me that I can't handle.
Clary pulled me back into my room. Once we got there, I pulled out my stele. There was no need for an infirmary when I could heal myself. I let Clary draw iratze on my few injuries since it was her specialty.
Once she finished, we sat in silence. I knew we had the day off, because Four decided to mess with the wrong dude.
"When can we go back?" Clary asked, interrupting my chain of thought.
"Soon, I hope," I replied. I sort of missed fighting demons. It gave me more of a thrill than beating someone who was trying to show me up.
"I just want to get back to my own time," Clary said, sighing. "I miss my family."
I scooted over to her and took her into my arms. "We will get back soon," I said as confidently as I could. "Until then, we have to hang around here. Get to know the people. Find a way to make it seem less futuristic, and more like a temporary home. You may not have all of your family, but you have Simon, Izzy, Magnus, Alec, and me. You can make it through this. We'll find a way to get back home. But, we'll do it the way we always do. Together."
She smiled at me, and rest her head on my shoulder. "I know," she whispered. "This place is just so foreign. They don't even have cell reception. This is like a post apocalypse type world."
"Then it looks like we have to survive and make it back, doesn't it?" I said. "Let's go eat."
Clary shakes her head at me as she follows me to the cafeteria to get me, and herself, a well deserved meal.
I'm so so so so so so so very sorry for the super late update. I hope you'll forgive me. I've been super busy with life and stuff. Next chapter, I was thinking about checking in on the people that Clary and the crew left back in New York in the second half of the chapter. Any thoughts on that? Do you guys think that Tris should come back and find Tobias gone? I'll try to update this story again as soon as I can:)
Bye! ~DauntlessPokemonRide
