Chapter 9: Bad Guy Has A Name

Hogules sighed as he shifted his weight. His gaze caught the other warrior's gaze and they both nodded to each other in turn. He took in the appearance of the legendary warrior with something a keen to awe. He had never actually seen the legendary warrior in action but the stories that were told were incredible. "It is said that no one has ever seen the true appearance of the legendary knight Sir Didymus who has lived to tell the tale." He murmured to the knight. Said knight grinned in response and then returned in kind.

"Tis said that the armor of Theallus can only be worn by a warrior true in heart, kind in spirit, honest in mind, and courageous in soul. It seems we are well met, you and I." Sir Didymus smirked to see the young dwarf's uncomfortable shift in emotions. He was well versed in the art of subterfuge. One may well over look his small stature but such a over-sight was to their mistake. It was surprising that the High Prince and the ruler of the Goblin City would look at his residents so closely to be aware of his existence and what that might mean. He thought himself well hidden from prying eyes but apparently that was not the case. He wondered who else put two and two together to arrive at the same number as their esteemed king.

"I thought the armor and I would be well hidden amidst the goblins of this city. I do not care for war as I have no lust for power or the promise that it holds." Hogules muttered quietly as so not to disturb the two fae's sleep. He watched as Sir Didymus's face grew solemn. All trace of previous humor now was devoid from his face.

"I grew tired of being fought over by kings. It was irritating to go into a war for no reason that was significant except that they could. I have little use for stupidity and even less tolerance for it. So I took myself away to the goblin city. There I thought I could find a king who was intelligent enough to avoid war over stupid reasons. I had also heard that he was a fair and just ruler so I came here to see for myself. As for intelligence, I was right and I actually found peace for a while hidden as I was. I thought our king wouldn't take notice of just one more citizen with in his kingdom but tis obvious I was wrong." Hogules nodded his head in understanding because he had felt the same way.

The goblins were known to all as vicious fighters if called to be however they all were more mischievous than vicious. There had never been any real danger to Sarah in the labyrinth. Hogules knew right from the start that she would never be harmed, there for he felt comfortable enough to play the coward. The only time he held any resistance to the play was when Jareth gave him that peach. Then he had to put his trust into his king and believe that the king would not allow any permanent harm come to a young girl. He had been right in his instincts thankfully.

He nodded to the knight again and to that the fell silent. Each one deep in their own thoughts about their king and the woman he had chosen for his queen.

Jareth sighed as he started to wake. Lifting his head he looked down at the enchantress wrapped in his arms. By the gods how she was beautiful. Now even more than ever she seemed to glow with a soft inner light. He had seen that look on many women who seemed to glow with this secret light. Like they had a were guarding a secret treasure and now he knew why. His children... She was carrying his children. His heart did a little leap at that thought. He gently removed his arm from under his treasure's head.

As quietly as he could he got up from the bed. Turning he met the eyes of his dwarf and knight. The rock yeti was fast asleep with his back to the window. Jareth didn't mind that Ludo was sleeping for he knew that any magical disturbance in the air around them and the yeti would be up and ready for action. Yeti's of any kind were more sensitive to use of magic than any other magical specie. He nodded and motioned the two out of the room for a minute.

After he closed the door behind them he gave them a good long look. "I know you don't need to be told how to do your job. As her friends, I know that you will risk everything for her and I appreciate that more than you could ever know. I just wanted to say thank you for coming and for protecting and teaching her in my stead."

Hogules and Didymus looked to each other and after a slight nod from Hoggle the knight spoke. "We are only to happy to help. My lady is a very strong individual and we are honored to be called her friends. You need not worry my king. We shall protect our lady with our very lives." Hoggle nodded in an agreeable silence. Once again, Jareth was touched by the two's devotion to their friends. He nodded just as a bellow sounded from behind the closed door.

Jareth cursed and whirled around and the three raced to the door. Jareth and Didymus threw their magic toward the door at the same time the force of their magic blowing the door to smithereens. As they raced in the three came to a stop at the site before them. Ludo was in the corner curled protectively around Sarah. She lay in the large yeti's arms still unconscious. As they came toward the beast they saw that Ludo's back was covered in burns and the smell of burnt hair was becoming prominent.

Jareth cursed again, although he was relieved that Sarah was safe, he was furious that someone dared to enter his private chambers in his OWN castle. He growled low in his throat while his eyes flashed with barely concealed rage. He struggled for control as he took stock of the situation. Ludo, he knew may actually prove to be a problem as yeti's were very protective by nature and Ludo was growling low as they approached. "You did well Ludo. It is okay, we are friends remember. Your safe now. Sarah is safe now. You did a great job in protecting her. I know you are hurting and I will send for another healer just for you." Jareth murmured as he continued to approach the beast.

Ludo looked at the fae before him with distrust. He was struggling within himself but he hurt so much. Sarah was a friend and he knew he needed to protect her. As he gazed at the fae before him he realized that it was not the fae from before. Slowly he searched through his mind trying to find out where he knew this fae from. He took a look at the two behind the fae. He recognized his friends. If they were with this fae than he must be a friend. He slowly lowered Sarah for Hoggle to take. He rumbled at the pain of the movement.

Jareth conjured up a scroll and then transported the scroll the healer's guild. In the scroll he explained his need for another healer and what had been done with Ruyin. He told them that he was going to need the best healer with experience at magic analysis. He wanted to know exactly who had fired those shots. The burns were caused by an energy blast and he wanted the signature of the user so badly that his body was thrumming with anticipation.

Sir Didymus sent a magical analysis spell to his friend burns. He was very good at analyzing left over magic. Since he was so old it had given him the opportunity to meet quite a number of different fae and other magical creature. He was silent as he processed the data he received. His eyebrows rose as his dark eyes narrowed. He recognized the energy signature.

"My king. I believe we have a problem." He bit out slowly.

Jareth looked toward his knight with raised eyebrows at the tone. "What is it?"

"I have analyzed the signature of the attacker and it is someone who we both know..." With that Sir Didymus trailed of again. Jareth waited patiently while the knight struggled to find the right words. "Tis Lord Canum, my king. There is no mistaking that treacherous rouge's signature. He is the reason I came to this kingdom. He is a very blood thirsty lord and I wanted no part of his war mongering. I would suggest calling your parents so they can read the signature for themselves."

Jareth nodded feeling his blood start to boil. Well he knew of Lord Canum's thirst for power and land. Lord Canum had plotted to attack his kingdom a century ago. However a servant came forward with the information before the Lord could attack. It had given Jareth enough time to rally his troops and demolish the Lord's army.

"Jareth..."

Jareth whirled around to find that Sarah had awakened. He walked toward her as Hoggle had set her to her feet. Taking his enchantress into his arms he kissed her in relief.

Sarah was shocked to say the least. Not that she minded his kiss in fact she longed for him kiss her even deeper however she knew they had witnesses. Sarah pulled away and gave a experimental sniff. She crinkled her nose at the smell of burnt hair. She looked around and she noticed that Ludo was sitting on the floor giving off little whimper of pain. She pulled out of her beloved's arms to go to her friends side. "What's wrong Ludo?" She murmured softly as she rubbed his head.

"Ludo hurt. Back hurts." Ludo whimpered as he leaned into her touch. Sarah walked around her friend and gasped at what she saw. Ludo's back was bare of hair and was a oozing bloody mess. It was such a horrific sight. She whirled around to her beloved, her eyes blazing with a cold and hard fire. "Explain NOW!" She bite out, her rage slashing like a knife through the air. Her hands balled into tight fists.

Jareth grimaced as he felt her anger fusing with in the very air. He looked at her with caution in his eyes as he moved to her side. He slowly wrapped his arms around her.

Sarah's face crumbled as she felt her beloved's arms wrap around her waist from behind. She turned to bury her face in to his chest as she started to weep for her friend.

Jareth nodded to the two warriors and they got the hint. Without a word they turned and they went to the now shattered door. Sir Didymus started to murmur as he drew his finger in the air. His power flowed out into the air and it shimmered with a green light. Hogules watched in silent awe as the runic symbol flew from the other warrior's finger toward the door. He watched as the splintered pieces of wood started to connect and fuse back into its proper form. With a wave of the knight's hand the now repaired door was back in its rightful place.

Hogules watched as the knight frowned as he started to turn slowly in a circle surveying the rest of the room. Goosebumps began to crawl over his skin as his friend's aura flared out with a blinding light. Hogules was forced to shield his eyes as the aura flowed over him and through out the entire room. He could hear Ludo behind him whimpering in pain. He was in awe at the strength and force that washed over and through his body. After what seemed like a few minutes the light died away. Hogules opened his eyes and had to wait for the dark spots in his sight to fade.

When they did and he was able to look around he was stunned at what he saw. All around him from the ceiling to the floor on which he and his friends stood were runic markings. There were some that he had never seen and the others that he had thought were just myth. Seeing is believing and now that he was seeing it, he couldn't believe the amount of power that his small friend held with in him. He truly was the great warrior of legend.

The runic symbols that now graced the surfaces of the room were as black as the darkest night and radiated with incredibly immense destructive and protective energy. His mouth hung open in stunned silence as the look was copied by the others in the room. The only ones who were oblivious to the awed crowd were Ludo who was in far to much pain to be phased and Sir Didymus who was now shaking his hands together and nodding in satisfaction as he gazed at the markings that he had created.

Jareth was shocked and honored by what the old knight had down. The runic symbols that now graced his private chambers were some of the most powerful of protection runic that he had ever come a crossed. One of the symbols in particular... He knew he had seen it some where before... He watched as the old knight crossed the chambers to Ludo. Sir Didymus took the yeti's hand and started to chant. Ludo's whimpers began to subside as he was surrounded in a warm soft glowing light.

Jareth was awed at the spell that was cast. Ludo was now asleep and feeling no pain at all. He looked down at Sarah only to find that she had fallen asleep yet again. He smiled slightly as he gazed gently down at his beloved's face. With great care as to not wake his sleeping love, he gathered her up into his arms and laid her gently onto the bed.

With a small gentle smile toward his beloved he turned and with a wave of his hand created a scroll. Than with a flick of his wrist he sent it to his parents informing them of what had happened and requested their presence. Turning to the knight and dwarf he opened his mouth to speak when a knock sounded on the door. Waving his hand he sent a pulse of his magic toward in. The door unlocked itself and opened to reveal a young woman with long beautiful copper hair and emerald eyes.

"I received your request for a healer your highness. My name is Allilianna." Hoggle watched as the woman bowed to their king and turned to survey the room. Her eyes narrowed as she walked toward the yeti. She gasped at the damage she saw. Stepping up to Ludo she held her hands over his back and in a soothing musical voice she began to whisper an incantation. Goosebumps rose on Hoggle's arms as he watched in awed silence as the woman and his friend started to glow a brilliant gold.

He narrowed his eyes in concern as the woman's voice started to waver. Suddenly he whirled around as another voice sounded behind him. He watched his friend slowly walk over to where the healer stood and holding his hands toward Ludo he started to glow gold as well. Allilianna's voice rose in renewed strength and their voices harmonized perfectly in tune. The wounds finally finished knitting together and the two voices began to fade as the spell came to a close.

Allilianna turned to face the creature that had helped her with the healing spell. It was the most powerful spell she had yet cast and she started to waver as exhaustion.

Jareth reached out to steady the woman. His eyes were kind as he spoke softly. "You have my thanks Allilianna. I will have a room prepared for you to recover your strength in." He snapped his fingers and another knock resounded on the door. Calling for the goblin to enter he turned to give his instructions.

Hoggle watched with concern and moved quickly to catch the young woman as she fainted. Sweeping her up into his arms he nodded to Jareth and followed the goblin out the door.

Jareth turned to face his knight and motioned for him to follow him out into the hall. He knew that with those protection symbols he didn't have to fear for his beloved's safety. Turning to Didymus he sighed. "I would ask a boon of you good knight." Sir Didymus's eyebrow rose as he awaited the request. "When Sarah awakes, I would like you to begin training her immediately. I have a feeling that war is going to come to our lands and I need her to be prepared for the worst."

"I have already expected as much my king. However, I would not wait for my lady to awaken. With your permission I would start training her now in her sleep. Time works differently in dream state. Eight hours can become eight days, or even eight months. Her body will strengthen as she trains in her sleep. I will transfer Hoggle and my consciousnesses into her dreams."

Jareth stared at the knight with awe. "I wasn't aware that was even possible." He murmured thoughtfully as his mind raced with the possibility of such a great ability. He was about to speak when Hoggle walked toward them. They set about explaining to Hoggle what they had in mind. It was a unanimous decision. With that they walked back into the room. Hoggle and Sir Didymus laid on ether side of the sleeping woman. Didymus closed his eyes and started to chant.

"Por lúa e sol,"

"deixa a formación facerse"

"Por terra e do ceo"

"fundimos nosa mente coa túa"

Jareth watched as the two started to glow a pale sky blue. Then the light shone bright and shot to his beloved's head and a bubble formed around the three. He held up his hand to touch the bubble and jerked it back as a shot of energy flew through his hand and up his arm. He grimaced as the pain ebbed than started to fade. It was a protection bubble.

Jareth turned as the door flew open to reveal his parents. His mother's eyebrows rose as she took in the sleeping four. Ludo still asleep on the floor. He was curled into a ball and sleeping peacefully, unaware of anything that had occurred. He nodded toward the yeti and his mother walked forward. She waved her hand over the creature and turned her palm toward her. They watched as it started to glow with a swirl of black, brown, and crimson red. From where he stood he could feel the pulse of malevolent energy.

Titania growled lowly as she turned to her mate and nodded. "It is Canum's energy to be sure, my love. Tis faint now but there tis still no mistaking that signature."

Oberon sighed as he snapped his fingers. With a pop and a light shower of glitter another fae appeared in the chamber. Hido knelt before his king. The high general waited his kings command. Oberon looked toward his mate and son before he spoke. His voice was low as fury flashed in his eyes. "Hido, you are to retrieve Canum. He is to be charge with assault and treason. Bring forward his daughter as well so that they may be judged by the high counsel. Bring him to the throne room. Use as much force if you have too."

Hido bowed his head and without a word winked out of sight. Oberon turned back to his son. "You will have to bare witness." Jareth nodded in understanding. He looked back toward the bed then turned and with a soft smile he nodded to his parents. All three disappeared out of sight.

A/N: Well that's it for this chapter. Sorry for taking so long on it. Now I am back and starting to get back into the swing of things.

Elizabeth lay on the floor, still out cold from earlier. Her head lying on a pillow and a blanket covered her up. The cast iron skillet now put back on the stove.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter and as always please review.
