The Life of Carriers

Chapter 6

Unfortunate Separation

Note: I apologize for not updating last week. I've been back at home and have been spending a lot of time with my family. I hope you guys can understand, but I promise that things will return to normal soon. Thank you and I hope you guys enjoy.

Special Squadron 1 was on stand-by yet again. The other squadrons were called out and back while they remained on the mainland. Although their first mission didn't go according to plan, they were glad that everyone was safe.

However, things weren't going according to plan. As they were resting, Nagato occasionally called them in individually to discuss things that were unknown to the others. They constantly went over what happened during their first mission. They wanted to know how many of them were there as well as who was on the island if there was someone. Unfortunately, they couldn't give her the information she was hoping for. The situation was too dire to thoroughly examine the situation.

After another meeting with Nagato, Kaga made her way to her usual place to have lunch with Akagi. However, before she reached the restaurant, her wrist was grabbed and pulled behind a random building. She didn't know who it was until the situation was finally over. It was Akagi.

"Akagi-san, what's going on? I thought we were going to have some lunch."

"I know. I just wanted to tell you something."

"Something? What's so important that you have to tell me like this?"

"We're being separated." There was a pause.

"Separated? What are you talking about?"

"Nagato said that the Admiral was rethinking his reorganization of the fleet. He decided that it was better to have larger squadrons in order to increase our power."

"But why is he splitting us up? Doesn't he know that we're the strongest carriers in the fleet? We're even stronger when we're together."

"I know. I wish we could, but he said that we can't afford to be comfortable. Risks must be taken in order for change to occur." All of a sudden, Kaga dropped her head in sadness."

"But I want to be with you." At that moment, Akagi placed her hand under her chin and lifted it back up.

"I know, and I do too. But you know that you're the stronger of us two. You'll be fine." Kaga suddenly turned around. Tears were starting to form up in her eyes, but she tried her best to keep them from falling. Then, Akagi came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist. "Kaga-san, please let me go. I don't want us to part ways like this." Kaga took another deep breath in.

"When do you have to leave?"

"Early in the morning tomorrow." Out of nowhere, Kaga stormed off without Akagi. She stuck out her arm and tried to grab onto her, but it was already too late. "Kaga-san." Akagi was so confused. Kaga's never behaved like that before. It was true that she had an attachment to Akagi, but this time felt much different for her.

Hoping to find her there, Akagi decided to go to the restaurant and see if Kaga was there. When she got there, she was disappointed to find out that she was nowhere to be found. There were many other places where she could be so she kept on wandering around until she ended up at their room. Before she entered, she pressed her ear against the door to make sure that she actually was there. It was soft, but she definitely heard her voice. She could hear her whimpering in the far corner of the room and knew that she had to make things right. She slowly entered the room and saw her lying down on their bed, her head facing the wall. She sat down next to her and placed her hand on her shoulder.

"Kaga-san, please talk to me." Her body pulsed due to the feelings in her body. "Kaga-san, I don't want to leave you like this. Please talk to me."

"You don't have to go. You can tell the Admiral that you think someone else is needed for this mission."

"I can't do that. He already emphasized that he needed me for this one."

"Then why wasn't I chosen for this as well." She started to cry more and more. It was starting to get harder to be there with Kaga so she laid down behind her and cuddled close.

"Kaga-san, why are you acting like this? You've never been like this before." Out of nowhere, Kaga turned around and looked her right in the eye.

"Because I'm your sailing partner. It's hard for me to watch you leave without me. I'm supposed to be by your side to make sure that you're safe."

"It'll be okay. I'll be with girls who are strong. The Admiral said…"

"I don't care what the Admiral said. I…" Out of nowhere, Akagi pressed her lips against Kaga's and finally got her to calm down. "Akagi-san, what was that for?"

"I have to go, but I promise I'll be fine. Because as long as your safe, that'll give me reason to stay alive as well. Just promise me you won't do anything foolish." Thankfully, a smile emerged on Kaga's face as Akagi kissed her on the forehead. "I'll be fine. I promise to come back and you'll be the first one to welcome me back."

"Okay."

"Now go to sleep. I'll wake you up in the morning."

"Good night."

Kaga turned onto her other side and quickly fell asleep. Akagi laid down behind her and kept her in her arms. She never thought that Kaga would give in to her emotions the way she was doing now. Although it was nice to see her showing her cute side, she didn't want this to go on. Kaga was supposed to be the strong one and she was the one who was supposed to be the emotional one.

Where was this going to lead them?
