She was marvelous, amazing, and beautiful all in one. My eyes scanned her, and unsure of what to say, I moved closer.
She didn't move, so I guess we were both in awe and amazement.
"Hello, M-Miss…?" I asked shyly—it was all I could get out.
"Uhm … hi," she spoke, and it was evident she was shy or embarrassed because she had been crying. But damn she had the cutest voice; like angels.
I might have indeed been in love with her already.
Wait! Fuck—why? This isn't me.
"Are you ok? Can I help?" I ask quietly.
"Yeah, my car broke down, and I live all the way up the street. I don't want to leave it here," she explains.
"Why don't we go inside. I'll make you some tea or coffee, and I'll see what I can do in the morning?"
"Would your girlfriend mind?" she asks, looking at me her eyes full of curiosity.
My eyes just went wide.
"I don't have one. Some think I do, but no." I looked at her as I chuckled. My quiet laugh quickly turning into a smirk.
"Oh, well then I'm sorry I assumed." She frowned. I could tell she felt bad or maybe stupid for assuming, but I didn't think it was either of those things.
"I'm Edward," I said dryly, unable to find anything else to say as I opened my door for her, leading her inside.
"Isabella, but just call me Bella. I prefer if you did," she explained, a small smile forming on her lips as I took her coat and put it on the rack by the heater; so it'd be warm when she wore it again.
"Well, Bella, are you hungry?" I asked her in a simple tone, keeping myself composed.
She nodded meekly.
I made her a salad, bringing it to her, before sitting beside her and watching her eat.
"Why are you watching me?" she asked in a curious but small tone.
"Oh, right. Sorry, I didn't realize I was." I knew I was, but now I just felt awkward. I looked way.
I heard her eat again, hearing her put the utensils down. I kept my gaze on the window, when I felt her small hand run up my back and rub my shoulder.
To say I had been taken aback by her action was an understatement.
"Jesus—fuck!" I yelled, jumping up quickly and becoming a quivering ball in the corner.
Being touched was hard for me. In my mind I believed I was going to get hurt again; as I have so many times before. It was always hard with new people—especially women, and it pained me deeply that I wasn't normal.
"Holy shit—I'm so sorry. I didn't mean… Edward, please say something…" she said, moving closer, but I shook my head, my eyes full of tears as I hugged my knees.
"It's ok. I won't hurt you. C'mere," she cooed.
I was skeptical but reluctantly crawled to her.
How was I supposed to know she wouldn't hurt me?
"Shhh, it's all right," she cooed again, and gently pulled me into her arms.
I twitched a little but her embrace calmed me; I felt at peace, but refrained from the urge to cuddle right into her. I knew deep inside I was just a scared kitten who wanted to be loved, and I would let her love me even if it took me some time to do the same.
"I just meant to comfort you, or … well, to break the silence," she said, sighing.
I just nodded; the words didn't find me at this very moment.
I let her stroke my face and hair as I continued to settle down, breathing slowly; my eyes closed.
"Hey?" I heard her speak, her voice remaining soft and calming.
I opened my eyes, and fuck me, she was so beautiful I wanted to kiss her, but I just couldn't. I knew she wanted the same thing, but I couldn't find the strength within me to do it. I also knew she could see the pain in my eyes, and wanted questions answered.
I guess she thought it was too soon, and that's why she didn't ask.
She smiled at me, and I lay down so my upper body was in her arms, my knees bent up resting on the back of the couch. I gazed into her eyes, hoping she knew exactly what I wanted to try, but it was as if she was reading my mind.
She kissed me, and I captured her lips in mine, shaky at first, but the new sensation felt calming to me.
"Wow," she muttered smiling as she pulled away.
I just nodded excitedly.
Wait … did I just kiss a girl and was now excited about it? This wasn't normal for me.
"You all right?" she asked quietly.
"Yes," was all I could say.
I let her hold me for a few hours, until she had to get her bag from her car and go to the guest room.
I just went to bed thinking about that kiss and wondering if she felt it too.
I had to know her at all costs.
It wasn't long before I fell asleep, but after a few hours I heard a knock on my door, before it slowly opened.
"Edward, you awake?" I heard her whisper.
I am now, thank you very much, I thought sarcastically.
"Hmmm," was all I got out.
"Can I sleep with you? I had a nightmare, and hate to be alone," she whimpered.
"Yeah," was all I managed got to say before I felt her snuggle in with me, and my mouth ran dry.
I drifted peacefully into a deep sleep knowing she was there, but I vowed for the rest of my eternity I'd show her how grateful I was.
