We're both feeling more at ease with it all, so I think I'll be able to update more frequently. Howitzer Al Houlihan cautiously followed his daughter through her home. He was getting more nervous by the minute because he honestly did not know what to expect from his son-in-law. Would he be angry? Would he be forgiving? Or would he tell him to leave their home?
Margaret turned to her dad and said, "Dad, just wait here ok? I'll have a chat with Hawkeye about you being here. I'll ask him to come in first."
Margaret walked out to the backyard and approached her husband who was messing around at the barbeque.
"Hawkeye, I have something I need to tell you."
Hawkeye gave his wife a look of concern, but asked one of his friends to take over the barbeque so he could talk to his wife.
"Margaret, are you ok? You look a bit worried about something."
"I have some news to tell you... My dad's inside."
"What's Al doing here Margaret?! You haven't seen or talked to him in a long time. How did he find us?"
"He used his Army connections to find us. He came to apologise, he told me he was really sorry and that he understood why I married you. He wants to be a part of our family, Hawk. I can't turn him away. I still love him, despite everything. Will you come inside and talk to him?"
Hawkeye looked at his wife and understood there and then that he had to put his own feelings aside in order to help his wife.
"I'll talk to him and I'll be polite. I hope he understands how incredibly lucky he is to have you for a daughter."
"He does, Hawk. He does."
With that, both Margaret and Hawkeye went inside, began making amends with her father and truly started getting their lives in order.
