Chapter 7

Calm

It had been way longer than five minutes, Nickole could tell. She sat in her cell, braiding the front of her hair, unbraiding it, and then braiding it again, thinking of all of the different types of beings in the galaxy she could, and she laid on the floor wishing for a good book. It seemed like hours later before the Sith walked back into the brig, looking much calmer. The vein on his forehead was gone, unfortunately. "Well welcome back to my humble abode," Nick said. "This is my room. That's it. There's not much so I apologize for that. Hope you enjoyed your stay."

"I need you alive, not conscious. We can do this the easy way or the hard way," the Sith said.

"Ooh. Not very friendly."

"I make it a habit not to become friends with my target," he said, coldly.

Nick raised one of her eyebrows. "It shows, it really does. Not even a bathroom. Come on man, I am human."

Tanner says in response, "We should have been out of here three days ago, but somehow my ship broke and the repair droid decided to go retarded on me."

Nick perked up a bit. "I can fix it."

"Do you think I was born yesterday?" Tanner asked.

"No I'm dead serious. I will do ANYTHING to get out of this box."

"Now you're just stealing my lines. You don't want to know how many times I have used that exact phrase in this exact situation. You have either taken a look at escape excuses or you just really think I'm an idiot."

"I'm unarmed smart one."

"As unarmed as any Jedi."

"Well my force is shot, so you can let me out of the box you moron!" Nickole yelled.

Tanner looked at her with a calculating expression. "What proof do you have that your force is, as you say, 'shot'."

"Check my training records."

"Yes because if I had those I would be asking you this."

"Alright. The only proof I have is in a demonstration."

"Demonstrate away."

Nick chuckled. "Alright. Congratulations, you have been selected to be my special assistant! Come on down."

"Begin your demonstration or I will knock you out again."

Nick sighed, and closed her eyes. Nothing happened. Tanner could feel the Force around him trying to move, but only vibrating slightly. Nick opened her eyes, and spoke again. "I told you so."

Tanner, barely stifling his laughter, said, "You're right. You are shot."

Nick grew exasperated. "It's not my fault! A Sith hit me with lightning when I was five, blocked my Force like a clogged pipe I can't fix it!"

Tanner opened his mouth to say something, but a droid entering the room interrupted his speech. "Sir. The new repair droid's program was faulty, shutting it down as well."

Nick smirked at the droid's words. Tanner sighed exasperatedly. A halo of red surrounded his body, and the droid went flying into the ray shield that was Nick's cell. "Good news Nicky," Tanner said. "You get to do some repairs."

Nick continued her smirk as the ray shield fell around her. "Anything for you Sithy."

Tanner smiles at her and says, "While I enjoy the nickname, I prefer Tanner."

Nick turned to Tanner, her smirk falling. "Well Tanny-boy. Just remember, you need me to fix this hunk of junk you call a ship."

"Only until I can de-bug my corrupted files."

"Even then, it'd take a droid twice as long to find and correct the problem. I can change a ships power cell in six minutes, takes a droid a half hour to figure out what's wrong."

"And how do you know it's the power cell."

"I know the anatomy of these babies like the back of my hand. There's a buzzing under the floor of the brig, that's a sign the power cell's gone bad."

Tanner turns and bangs his head against the wall. "Ni korru bak taroq," he said in Sith. "Shem lo soru nokta."

Nick looked at Tanner, confused. "Como say what? English. I only speak English."

Smirking at her confusion, Tanner said, "You should try being a polyglot. It's a lot more entertaining."

Nick frowned at the Sith, and walked off to go find the tools she'd need to get the ship moving.
