Yoriko Yasuzumi sat alone in the library of Misono academy. She loved it there. Of course she had been branded as a geek by her fellow peers. But she just truly enjoyed reading and gaining knowledge. She was currently flipping through an interesting book titled 'The Truth Behind the Witch'.
It was about the study of Wicca and its origins. There was also a section in the book that talked the witch trials and how many women were burned at the stake. Yoriko shuddered at the thought. I couldn't imagine being sat on fire and killed in front of an audience. How horrible.
She flipped through the book. I don't wanna know about witches being killed I wanna know about spells and stuff. Yoriko thought as she turned the pages. For as long as she could remember she was always fascinated with witches, vampires, demons you name it. It was a passion of hers, not to mention her best friend in the whole world, Lilica Felencherow, was half demon.
When Lilica first told Yoriko of her heritage she thought Lilica was joking with her. But when Lilica sprouted leathery bat wings in Yoriko's bedroom she was in shock. Since then Yoriko had tried to read and study as much about witches, magic and demons as much as she could.
But she still hadn't found what she was looking for in this book. She closed it and pushed it away in frustration. I just want to be someone or something special for once in my life. She thought to herself.
"Hi Yoriko!"
Yoriko's head snapped up. It was Lilica. The librarian shushed her.
"Sorry, my bad." Lilica said sheepishly. She sat down in the chair next to Yoriko. "Yori, I hope you don't stay at school twenty-four hours a day, do you? I mean you do know you can sleep at home and still come back the next day?" Lilica said.
Sadly Yoriko couldn't tell if Lilica was joking or not. Her humor was like that. "I wasn't sleeping Lil, I'm just frustrated. None of these books I've read have anything to do with actual spells and magic. Why can't I be special like you?"
Lilica put her hand to her chin in what looked to be genuine thought. "Hmm. I got it!"
The librarian shushed her again.
"Sorry." Lilica whispered. "I got it. Why don't we go to an occult book shop? I'm sure you will be able to find more there than in a high school library."
Yoriko could have slapped herself. Why didn't I think of that? Anytime Lilica has a bright idea before me. I may need to constantly stay in the…
"Uh earth to Yoriko. You there?" Lilica asked breaking Yoriko out of her thoughts.
"Sorry I was lost in thought. Do you know where there's an occult book shop?" Yoriko asked getting excited.
Lilica scrunched up her face. "Well I know of an occult shop so I assume they will have books there."
"Where is it and how do we get there?" Yoriko asked as she packed her things.
"It's across town but the train can take us there and back." Lilica said.
Yoriko hopped up and fast walked out of the library.
"Wait for me?" Lilica said as she followed behind Yoriko.
After a half hour train ride they ended up Mystic Museum occult shop. Yoriko stepped inside and immediately felt at home. She looked at all the baubles, trinkets and potions. Then she spotted the bookshelf. She giddily ran over it. "Look at all the books Lil!"
A store clerk walk over to Yoriko and Lilica. "Welcome to the Mystic Museum. My name is Nizara. May I help you?" The clerk asked with a hypnotic tone. She was dressed in a long flowy indigo dress and her hair was pulled back in a tight bun.
"We're just lookin' for right now. As you can see this is my friends first time in a shop like this." Lilica said gesturing toward Yoriko who was practically hugging a book shelf.
Nizara chuckled. "Yes I see. I will be at the front if either of you needs any assistance." She walked away to help another customer.
"Look Lil, a book of potions!" Yoriko called out. "I still don't see a book of spells."
Lilica felt something on the edge of her senses.
"Yoriko my half breed senses are tingling." Lilica said. Being half demon gave her supernatural senses which made her sensitive to unnatural occurrences and traces of magic. She walked down an aisle of books. "Whatever I'm sensing is somewhere in this area."
Lilica held out her hand and a huge book flew off the shelf into her hand.
"Wow Lil! How did you do that?" Yoriko asked astonished.
Lilica herself didn't even know how she did it but she wouldn't dare let Yoriko know that. She had to live up to her reputation. "Well I am my father's daughter."
Lilica flipped the book over. "Aww man it's in some foreign language." Lilica whined.
Yoriko walked and touched the book. It began to glow. The words rearranged themselves so that Yoriko could read them. Yoriko looked to Lilica. "Did you do that Lil?"
Lilica shrugged her shoulders. "No way honey. I had nothing to do with that. It was all you sweetheart. I was already touching it and nothing happened. It only reacted when you touched it. You might really be a witch or something!" Lilica said.
Yoriko was beside herself with excitement. "I gotta have this book!" Yoriko said scooping the book and holding it close.
"Wait Yoriko. I have a plan. Let me hold the book right quick." Lilica said.
Yoriko gave Lilica the book. "What are you going to do?" Yoriko asked.
Lilica smirked. "Watch and learn little witch."
They made their way to the clerk's desk.
Nizara smiled at them. "Did you girls find…" Nizara's voice trailed off.
Lilica had be glaring at her intently. Nizara's face went slack. We have already paid for this book. We're leaving now.
Nizara blinked. "Ok girls. You enjoy the book and I hope to see you again soon."
Lilica smiled and exited the store followed by Yoriko. "Lil what did you do?" Yoriko asked.
Lilica touched her head. "Mind control. Although I really hate doing cuz I end up with a really bad head ache. But anything for my little Yori." Lilica handed Yoriko the book.
"Hey you wanna spend the night at my house? We can spend the night looking through spells and stuff." Yoriko said smiling.
"Duh. Of course. Plus you'll need some supervision." Lilica said.
Yoriko's mouth dropped open. "You have super vision too?"
Lilica smiled. "Yes, but that's not the kind I was talking about."
They took the train and a bus to Yoriko's house. They walked in the house and Yoriko looked around. "Mom are you home?"
A voice responded from another room. "In the kitchen dear."
Yoriko walked to the kitchen with Lilica in tow. "Hello honey, hello Lilica. How was your day sweetie?" Yoriko's mom asked while pulling food out of the oven.
"It was pretty good. I was wondering if it was ok for Lilica to stay the night?" Yoriko asked.
Her mother looked at Lilica. "Are your parents ok with you staying the night?"
"It's just my dad. It's safe to say he's fine with it. Don't be surprised if he tries to move me in." Lilica said laughing.
"Well dinner is ready. We're having my specialty, chicken pot pie." Yoriko's mother said proudly.
"Mom can we take our dinner to my room. We have this huge book we have to go through I want to make sure I get started on it immediately." Yoriko asked.
Her mother hesitated. "Now you know usually expect us to eat dinner as a family, but seeing as though have a guest and a hefty work load, I guess it's fine just this one time. Remember to bring your dishes down after you finish eating."
Yoriko grabbed the plates of food. "Thanks mom, you're the best!" She headed up to her bedroom with Lilica close behind her. Yoriko closed her bedroom door and pulled out the huge spell book. She and Lilica kneeled on the floor and they began to flip through the book.
"Look at this! There are spells for almost everything. Love spells, protection spells…"
Suddenly the book dropped from her hands onto the floor and the pages turned on its own.
Lilica stared down at the book. "This certainly is a very strange book."
The pages stopped turning. Yoriko picked up the book to read it. "To summon power. Lilica we should try this."
"I already have powers. I don't really need anymore." Lilica said.
Yoriko scoffed. "Well I don't. Come on Lil you know how much this means to me."
Lilica twirled her fingers through one of her golden pigtails. "I don't know Yori. I always believed that those with power was born with it. They didn't just get it from out of nowhere."
I can't believe her! I never ask any favors of her and the one time I do she won't even help me! Yoriko thought to herself. The spell book pulsed in her hands. "Look! You can either help do the damn spell or leave cuz either way I'm doing it!" Yoriko snapped.
Lilica looked like she had literally been slapped in the face. "Ok sheesh, I'll do it. Don't bite my freaking head off."
Yoriko looked back at the book. "It says we need six candles and an athame to draw a few drops of blood. I already have those things."
Yoriko got up and went over to a chest and rummaged around.
Lilica was still stuck on the 'few drops of blood' part. "Yoriko, spells dealing in blood is serious business."
Yoriko returned with the candles and athame. "I can't believe you're the scared one this time." She sat the candles down in a circle lighting them as she went.
"I'm just saying. You're human, you don't know what effects the spell will have on your body or your mind." Lilica said earnestly.
Yoriko kneeled in front of the book. "I'm not worried and neither should u be."
Lilica noticed Yoriko tended to be way more outspoken and mean when she was near the book.
Yoriko started reciting the spell.
"Can I see that book really quickly?" Lilica asked.
"No!" Yoriko growled.
'That book is definitely trouble.' Lilica thought to herself. She saw Yoriko reach for the athame. I have to stop her. It's now or never.
Lilica reached out her hand.
"I said no!" Yoriko hissed.
Lilica was unmoved. "I wasn't asking." Lilica's eyes turned red. She reached out with her power causing the book to rise in the air.
"No!" Yoriko screeched and grabbed the book in mid air. When her hands touched the book, a massive wave of energy sent Lilica flying across the room into the wall. Lilica fell limp onto the floor leaving whole in the wall where she was thrown.
Yoriko kneeled back down with the book in hand.
There was knock on the door. "Honey are you all ok in there?" Yoriko's mother asked from the other side of the bedroom door.
Yoriko did respond. She took the athame, cut into her palm and allowed a few drops to fall onto the book. An unnatural wind filled the room. Yoriko and the spell book slowly rose into the air. A dark mist poured from the book and flowed into Yoriko. The book dropped to the floor as Yoriko continued to hover in air.
Lilica came to just as Yoriko's mother walked in. "Aah! Yoriko what is going on!?" Her mother said nearly hysterical.
Yoriko slowly looked to her mother. "Sleep." She said in an unnatural voice. Her mother dropped hard to the floor.
Lilica scrambled to her feet and looked at Yoriko's mother on the floor. "What did you do to her?"
Yoriko looked to Lilica. "Have you not the capacity for hearing foolish half breed? She is asleep and will not awaken til I command it so."
Lilica realized that she was no longer dealing with her best friend. "Who are you?"
Yoriko laughed a cold and chilling laugh. "I am the Demon King Mikelangelo. I have been trapped in that cursed book for ages. But now I live once more. I have you and this vessel to thank for my resurrection."
Lilica's mind was racing. I can't attack him cuz he's in Yori's body. But I can't let him leave and do more damage.
Yoriko gestured and the spell book lifted to her hand. "Any attack you plan to use against me is futile, but you are more than welcome to try your hand." Yoriko flipped through the spell book.
"What do you plan to do?" Lilica asked trembling.
Yoriko grinned. "I may as well you since you are now my minion. I plan to merge the Elemental world and this world together once more. And then I will be sole ruler of the worlds. But most importantly I will have no further use of this weak vessel."
Lilica looked at Yoriko confused. "Elemental world? What's that?"
Yoriko rolled her eyes. "Are all humans incompetent and useless? The Elemental world is an entire world made up of magical and spiritual energy. In a time long before I was bound to the book, this world and the Elemental where together. Humans began to war with one another and invoked us Elementals to fight in their war. Many elementals disagreed with being used as tools of war. I on the other hand welcomed the death of humans.
"Many Elementals gathered together and separated the worlds by creating a barrier that keeps the worlds apart. Not before binding me in book of course. The once great Elemental world now acts as a guardian to this one. But not anymore. I will destroy the barrier and merge the worlds."
Lilica stared in horror at Yoriko. "What happens to everyone here when the worlds are together again?"
Yoriko looked at Lilica in slight amusement. "You know, that is a perfectly good question. Let's find out together."
Yoriko raised her arms and began to speak in another language.
Lilica's eyes turned blood red. I gotta to this now! She rushed Yoriko and slammed into an invisible barrier. Pain wracked her body as she slowly lifted into the air.
Yoriko's eyes were now two black holes. "Foolish half breed! I am the King of ALL Demons! Even you are subject unto me!"
Yoriko resumed her spell. Even in pain Lilica could make out what Yoriko was saying.
"In the veil is a tear, carry my words across the air. Demonic power I call forth to summon unto me the Arcana Dieu Morte!"
A rush of wind washed over everything. Yoriko grinned as the Arcana spirit Dieu Morte entered her.
Lilica had been released from Yoriko's hold. She dropped to her knees as she felt an unnatural feeling settle over her. What is happening to me?
She felt a presence close to her. "Do not fear me. I am Tempestas, Arcana of the winds. I have felt your despair and have come to your aid. I will be your protector from here on out." The spirit grew faint but still comforted Lilica.
"My plan is coming to fruition. With Dieu Morte's power at my command, my plans for dominance will be easy. I also sense a spirit within you as well half breed. I will use both to further my plans." Yoriko said proudly.
Without warning Yoriko doubled over and fell to the floor. "No. This body is weakening. I'm losing hold over…Damn!" Suddenly Yoriko's face went completely blank. "Lilica? What has he done?" Yoriko asked frantic.
Lilica kneeled down beside Yoriko. "Yoriko it's you! Thank goodness!"
Yoriko shook her head. "He's still inside. I can feel him. He feels far away; too weak to take control." Yoriko started crying. "Lil you were right. I should've never done that stupid spell."
Lilica shushed her. "It's ok sweetie we will figure something. I may have an idea but I can't say anything. He may be listening. But I'm gonna do whatever I can to fix this.
