A/N: What's up, everybody! S/o to new readers: rockobrocko, TheDreamerSetFree, obbbid, GrangerDanger112, KitKat567, Uncontrollable-book-nerd, and beverlie4055. I'm really glad you like it! We get to see some Loki/Olive interaction here! I'm super stoked so I hope you all are too!
Olive sat at a table in the control room, her feet resting gingerly on the control panel. She grinned over at Steve who was talking to Coulson who was no doubt asking the Captain to sign his vintage trading cards. Steve looked at her, smiling and she returned the gesture, shrugging her shoulders slightly.
"We got a hit," Agent Sitwell called out, breaking the silence on the bridge. "Sixty-seven percent match. Weight, cross match, seventy-nine percent."
"Location?" Coulson asked.
"Stuttgart, Germany. 28, Konigstrasse. He's not exactly hiding."
Fury took a step forward, turning towards Steve. "Captain, you're up."
Steve nodded and left the bridge.
"Agent Glitch," Fury called out, turning to her. "Go suit up."
Olive took her feet off the panel, standing up hesitantly. "Sir?"
"If things get out of control, you get our people out quick, understand?"
"Understood."
With a blink, Olive left the bridge and appeared in the locker room. Natasha was there, pulling on her boots. She sent Olive a smirk. "Ready?"
Though Fury had brought her on this mission, Olive honestly thought it was going to be as some sort of Liaison to Steve, help him get assimilated to all the going-ons around him, make sure he was comfortable. She hadn't really expected to get in on the action . . . but she'd be lying if she said she wasn't excited. "More than."
Olive pulled open the locker and pulled her things out. Her 'suit' didn't much vary from Natasha's though she had asked for a hood be put on the top, to hide her face if need be. Coulson had assured her that if no one had found her by now it was because S.H.E.I.L.D had gotten rid of them but she still wore the hood. It made her feel safe and kept people from seeing who she was. For now though, she left the hood down, zipping the top up to her neck. She shoved her feet into the ankle high boots, pulled her fingerless gloves over her hands and last took her sword from the locker. Lightweight, it let her move how she wanted to and worked really well when she Traveled as it didn't weigh her down. She cinched the sheath around her waist, comforted by the feel of her sword against her leg.
She looked to Natasha, who was standing by the door waiting for her. Natasha held out her hand. "Shortcut?"
Grinning, Olive met her, taking her hand and the two of them Traveled to the Quinjet. Steve was already there when they arrived. Natasha walked past him to the pilot's seat, prepping the plane for take-off.
Olive glanced at her friend. This was the first time she had seen Steve in his uniform. She had always known that he was well built but . . . well, she really liked the suit. He met her gaze, giving her a grin as they buckled themselves down. "You alright?"
"Never better," Olive responded, smiling back. "How about the first one to grab the little green guy buys the other coffee?"
"Sounds like a deal. I like mine with two sugars."
Olive laughed. "So confident."
"I've bagged my share of bad guys in my day."
"Alright then, Solider Boy, we'll see who's still grinning when you buy me a caramel frappachino."
"A what?"
"Exactly."
It was night by the time they reached Stuttgart. Olive and Steve leaned against the sides of the helicopter door as Natalia circled the museum. "What can you make out?" the redhead asked over the headsets.
"I think I see the target," Olive responded, placing her hand against one ear. "He's in the middle of that crowd."
"He's making them kneel," Steve said, disgusted. "Except him. . . ."
Olive spotted someone else still standing while all the others knelt around him and Loki. It appeared to be a standoff, those two figures . . . until the man in green raised that long scepter of his. Olive cursed slightly under her breath. "We've got to get down there!" she cried out, looking up at Steve but he was already way ahead of her.
His cowl on and his shield at the ready. "Get that man out of there!" he called as he dived from the helicopter.
Olive flicked up her hood, and Traveled. Steve landed just as Olive appeared next to that lone standing figure. The Captain raised his shield, blocking Loki's blast protecting the other bystanders and Olive Traveled to a nearby building, setting the old man right on his feet. "You're safe. Get out of here!"
Olive ran back to the sight, pushing past people as they scattered. Steve and Loki were facing each other, at the ready. The helicopter flew back over and Olive shielded her eyes as the light shown down on the square, illuminating the pair.
"Loki," Natasha called out over the speaker, "drop the weapon and stand down."
With one swift movement, Loki pointed his spear at the quinjet, sending a jet of blue light at. Olive crouched, ready to Travel into the cockpit if need be but she hadn't needed to worry; Natasha steered the plane out of harm's way. In the distraction, Steve threw his shield at Loki. Olive made it her job to grab people out of the way, Traveling them a safe distance away.
When she turned around, it was to see Loki standing over Steve, his scepter pointing at the Super Solider. "Kneel."
"Not today!" And suddenly Steve was back in the fray.
The two of them seemed to be on equal footing in this fight. Above them, Natasha tried to target Loki, but it didn't seem to be working. "The guy's all over the place. Glitch, find some way to get Steve out of there so I–"
Glitch flinched, yanking her headset out when the feedback from some shrill rock song blasted through the area. She looked up as a blur of red and gold zoomed past her, knocking Loki back with a blast of light. The ground shook as the metal man landed, standing up straight. His suit whirred as Iron Man pulled out weapons from his armor, pointing his palm at Loki. "Make your move, Reindeer Games."
Olive and Steve walked up to stand on either side of Iron Man. Loki looked up at them and for a moment, Olive thought he would pull another trick out of his bag, but he slowly raised his hands, his armor dematerializing.
"Good Move," Toni Stark said, and Olive could practically feel him smirking under his mask.
"Mr. Stark," Steve said, nodding in the direction of the man.
"Captain." Mr. Stark turned slightly in Glitch's direction. "Glitch."
"Stark," Olive responded.
"Mind me asking what kind of name is that?"
"Yeah, I do." She turned as Natasha landed the plane. "I'm going to clear the civilians. Think you two can handle him?"
"I think he's pretty much helpless, now," Toni replied, grabbing Loki's arm in his rough grasp and marching him to the plane.
"Guess you owe me that coffee," Steve told her as they reassured and escorted civilians out of the area.
Olive smirked. "Technically, Stark caught the creep so I wouldn't technically count this as a win, Solider boy."
On the quinjet, Olive stood next to the open door of the cockpit, sneaking furtive glances at their prisoner. This seemed suspect, she thought. Even if it had been her, Steve and Tony against him, he might have stood a fair chance. She had heard rumors about his brother Thor and the Warriors who had come to New Mexico and practically leveled the place. The Asgardians were strong . . . and yet, he had just given in. A quick look between her and Steve confirmed that they were both thinking the same thing. When she looked back to Loki, it startled her to find that he was watching her. Maybe she imagined it, but she thought she saw the corner of his mouth lift up in a slight smirk.
The plane shook suddenly as thunder rumbled in the air. Olive turned, looking into the cockpit to see Natasha struggling to keep the plane steady as lightning flashed in front of them. "Where's this coming from?"
"Random European weather?" Olive supplied as another ferocious roar shook their plane.
"What's the matter?" Olive turned back around to see Steve addressing Loki, who suddenly seemed very tense. "Scared of a little lightning?"
"I'm not overly fond of what follows," the Asgardian responded.
Suddenly, the windows were flooded with light as something struck the top of the quinjet. Toni rushed to get his helmet while Steve put back on his mask. Walking slowly towards the ramp, Toni pressed the button to open it.
"What are you doing?" Steve called out to him.
The ramp extended, revealing the darkened sky and black clouds. Nothing happened for a moment, until someone dropped onto the ramp in a crouch. His blond locks blew in the breeze as he stood, cape billowing behind him. Toni raised his palm but before he could even make a move, the man threw a hammer. It knocked into Toni, sending him flying backwards into Steve before flying back into the blond man's hands. Toni and Steve landed in a heap by Olive's feet, Olive bending down to help haul Steve out from under Iron Man.
In front of them, the other man gripped Loki up and walked him to the ramp and flew out into the night. Toni got to his feet. "Now there's that guy."
"Another Asgardian?" Natasha called from the cockpit.
"I'd say that's a safe bet," Olive replied.
"Think the guy's a friendly?" Steve asked.
"Doesn't matter," Toni responded. "If he frees Loki or kills him, the Tesseract's lost."
Toni headed towards the ramp, striding into action as if they just hadn't seen someone fly off their plan, with no parachute, no jet back, just a hammer.
"Stark, we need a plan of attack," Steve called after him.
"I have a plan. Attack." With that, Stark jumped out of the plan, following in Thor's path. Steve shook his head, grabbing a parachute and heading towards the ramp.
"That's probably not the best plan," Olive said.
"I'd sit this one out, Cap," Natasha agreed.
Steve looked back at the two of them. "I don't see how I can."
"These guys came from legends, they're basically gods," Natasha explained, trying to get him to see reason.
"There's only one God, ma'am. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that." With that, Steve flung the parachute over his shoulder and jumped from the plane.
Natasha muttered something in Russian and Olive couldn't help but agree. "Men."
The red head looked over her shoulder. "There's no way I can set this plane down and get to them in time."
"I'll head down," Olive reassured her. "Maybe I can talk some sense into Iron Man."
With that she Traveled out of the plane. Olive appeared on an overlook, the ground shaking so hard she almost feel over. "Hey!" She called out to the men below her, trying to get Tony or the second Asgardian to pay attention. They were slamming into each other, trees falling down, breaking in half. For a moment, they disappeared, and Olive could practically feel the ground shaking wherever they were before they came smashing back into the area. She braced herself as everything around her rumbled again.
So much for talking sense. There was no way she was jumping in the middle of that.
"Well what an interesting Midgardian you are." Olive spun around, drawing her sword in one swift movement and pointed it towards the one who had spoken. Loki stood about ten feet from her, hands still bound, a smirk on his face. His eyes glowed an icy blue in the moonlight, almost unnatural. It made Olive's heart pound in her chest but she was practiced enough to keep it from showing, even with her hood hiding part of her face. "And a sword. An interesting little mortal indeed."
He hadn't tried to escape. That struck Olive as odd. If her captors were busy fighting she'd have been out of there as quick as she could. Loki took a step towards her and she lifted her sword higher leveling it with his throat. "Not a step closer."
Natasha's voice rang in her ear. "I think I found a landing space. What's going on there?"
Loki titled his head, walking to her left. "You have magic."
Olive followed him as he circled her, sword still at the ready, eyes never leaving his. She was starting to feel like prey even though he was the one bound and captive. "No I don't."
"You appeared in front of me without normal means. It looked like magic to me."
"Well it's not. Stand still." She pressed a hand to her ear, responding to Natasha. "Men are stupid. Guarding hostile."
"Glitch," Natasha responded, her voice slightly anxious with a warning. "Do not engage. I repeat, do not engage."
Loki grinned. "'Hostile'? Do I make you nervous, little one? Are you frightened?"
"No. But you're a lunatic and dangerous so you'll have to excuse me if I'm a little wary." Olive watched him for a moment, before speaking the question that had been on her mind. "What are you still doing here? Your captors are distracted, it's just 'little' ol' me . . . other bad guys would have been twenty miles away by now."
Loki laughed, coming to a standstill. "Is that your way of asking me to leave?"
"I'm saying its suspicious is all. Someone might think you're up to something."
"You're inquisitive aren't you, clever. . . . You must be the agent Barton spoke of, the girl with no name."
Oh she did not like that, the knowing look he gave her. He was trying to unnerve her, get her off track. She started to left her hand to her ear, to answer Natasha, but she found she couldn't help herself. "Where is Barton? What have you done with him?"
"He told me you hide your face when you go out, refuse to let anyone get close to you. Why is that? What are you hiding from? What are scared of?" Loki continued to circle her, eyes piercing, mocking. "Is it that others will see you for what you truly are? But that can't be true. . . . You and the lost solider. I've seen the way he looks at you, protectively, caring. I wonder what all you would do to protect him, or he you."
Don't engage, Natasha had said. Don't engage.
"Suppose we'll have to test that theory, won't we?"
Olive rushed forward, her hood falling back as she backed Loki into a tree, the tip of her sword grazing his throat. "You keep him out of this."
"A chink in the armor! The little warrior finally reveals herself." Loki grinned. "I think I'll keep you."
A sudden shock wave shook the area. Olive jerked her sword back just in time to keep from slicing Loki's throat as she was knocked to the ground. Loki didn't look concerned, even as he fell to his knees. Olive cast him a quick glance before she scurried to the edge if the cliff side. Steve, Tony, and the other Asgardian all stood facing each other.
"We alright down there?" Olive asked.
The men looked up at her. Seeing his face in the light now, Olive realized she recognized the third man, having seen some pictures from his brief stay in New Mexico. He could only be Thor, Loki's brother.
"How you'd get down here so fast?" Toni asked.
"Glitch, I repeat, respond," Natasha's voice cut over Olive's headset, frustrated and she realized she must have unintentionally ignored the other agent.
"Copy, I'm here," Olive responded. "The boys have calmed down."
"Head east. I've put the plane down in this clearing."
Olive sheathed her sword and put her hands on her hips, ignoring Toni. "Can we get back to the quinjet now? Natasha's waiting for us."
Captain nodded, looking back to the other two men. "Are we done here?"
Begrudgingly, Tony and Thor walked up to the overlook where Olive and Loki were waiting, Steve following after them. Thor gripped his brother by the arm, marching him off in the direction Olive indicated. Loki cast another glance at her and as much as she tried not to, she turned away. Her brief encounter with him had left her rather shaken. What could he do to Steve? The same thing he had done to Barton? She had a horrible feeling in the pit of her stomach, that something bad was going to happen.
"You alright?" Steve placed his hand against the small of her back. She didn't think he realized it, or necessarily did it on purpose. It was something that had become habit. When had that happened? She could recall placing her hand on his arm, him grabbing her hand, the sly smiles . . . that incredibly ridiculous bet on who could capture Loki first. Hell, Steve had gotten closer to her than anyone else. No wonder Loki thought, no knew, that he could use Steve as a way to push her buttons.
She stepped away from him, wrapping her arms around herself. "I'm fine. Let's get him back to base."
Olive walked away from him, leading him in the direction of the quinjet. If she had to, she'd distance herself from him, even if it hurt.
There's was no way she was going to let Loki take advantage of their relationship.
A/N: Oh my gosh it has been way to long! I'm so sorry I was finishing school and I got a new job and everything has been so hectic! I hope that this made up for my absence. I really want to finish this before the new Avengers movie and I'm still debating doing a sequel with Winter Solider.
