JackRabbit Week Day 3 Prompt::Green

"Sandy!" The distraught cry made the busy sandman pause in his work and turn to look at the one who called. A panting, worried looking Aster was calling from a nearby rooftop. With a look of concern, Sandy floated down and laid a hand on his shoulder with a question mark over his head. There wasn't much that would startle the pooka, or make him worry this much.

But Aster was indeed worried. It was nearly the end of Summer, and Jack had never returned to the warren. Jack always returned to sleep in the warren. That was how it had been for a decade or two already. No matter how they fought, what words were said, or what pranks were pulled, Aster would always find Jack nestled in some emerald nook or cranny as the frost cradled him gently. So why? Why hadn't he come back this time? Aster had been hurt by Jack's words, and he had planned on giving the frostbite an earful, but it wasn't Jack who had been hurt. At least, he didn't think so. "Jack's not come back ta the warren, Sandy. Ah can't find 'im anywhere."

Sandy made a little 'o' of understanding with his mouth, and smiled soothing as he patted his shoulder gently. He made the image of a woman over his head, followed by an intricate leaf. Aster immediately glowered, green eyes flashing. "Motha' Nature? He went... to sleep in her realm..?" He bit back a growl when Sandy nodded. Aster paced back and forth a bit, not noticing the knowing grin on Sandy's features. With a frustrated sound he jumped to the ground and tapped his foot, jumping in and racing off without so much as a 'thank ya'.

He popped back up, sniffing delicately and twitching his ears. Eventually he caught the scent he was looking for and ashed through an ancient forest, thick as molasses and roiling with all shades of green and life. Animals skittered just out of his path as he raced through. He slowed when he entered a clearing, pausing to admire the mix of violet-blue and snow white flowers. And there in the dead center was his snowfla- wait his? Since when..? He huffed and half hopped over on all fours in the way a hare does when he wants to move a a bit faster than a walk but slower than a sprint. He hunkered down and sniffed over the sleeping form of Jack, breathing a sighing in relief. He was sleeping peacefully, a small smile even in place on his pale lips. Aster couldn't help his deepening frown. Grass and small fern like vines curled over his arms and fingers, one caressing his cheek lovingly.

He gave a low growl, nearly snarling as an unfamiliar kind of rage bubbled up in his chest, something that made him want to pout like a child, grab onto his, yes his, Jackie and run like the bats of hell were after him. He reached out to press a warm paw to the cold skin of his cheek, marveling at the almost granite like surface. With a sigh he realized he'd just been visited by the green eyed monster known as Jealousy.

What was Jack doin' to him?

What do you think...? At this rate Aster'll never get some tail. ...yes. Pun intended... *shot*
