Chapter 5: Bryn

Today everything starts over new, it's the beginning of a new school year which means a new classroom with hopefully, new classmates. I wasn't quite sure but I know this year is going to different for me. New classroom 2F; I walked up to the front chalkboard to see the seating chart already drawn on the board. As I walked to my seat a smile grew on my face as I realized I would be sitting right next to Lili. I took my seat next to her, as she finished applying her lipstick and closed her compact mirror.

"So I guess we're classmates again huh?"

"Now you have no choice but to talk to me."

Lili chuckled a little as she dug into her bag and pulled her books out. As the beginning of class started to roll around the students came piling into the classroom one by one. Many of the students were old friends excited to see each other, catching up after over their spring break. "No way. Hey Jin you're body guard's in the same class as us," a voice shouted through the door of the classroom. Hwoarang walked through the door with a big smile on his face, he came over to me squatted down, and placed his arm over his shoulder. "Funny seeing you here. I heard you've been keeping a keen eye on Jin. I can't even get him to go outside most nights."

I peeled Hwoarang's arm off of my shoulder as he kept talking my ear off. "Noisey people are so troublesome." Lili stated while going through her planner. Once he noticed who was beside me he left my side and crouched down in front of Lili's desk. He gently grasped her hand rubbing his thumb over her knuckles, "You are the most beautiful women I've ever met will you go out with me?"

Lili took her hand back from him and stood up from her desk to leave, "Not even if you were the last guy on Earth." She left Hwoarang standing there speechless. Soon after Jin walked in yawning while scratching the back of his head. Without even looking at me Jin bee-lined to his desk sitting diagonally in front of me.

I walked over his desk and crouched down in front of him, "Good morning..."

Jin looked at me and then went back to holding his face in his hands.

"Hello you're not gonna say hi to me? Hello!"

"Geez you're so loud, why do you have so much energy so early?"

"Why are you so cranky?"

"I'm tired," Jin yawned through his sentence. "I was out late for the past two days and haven't had much sleep."

Before I could ask Jin anymore questions, the teacher walked in signalling the start of homeroom. "Alright settle down everyone. I know you're all excited because it's the first day of school and you're all happy to see each other but, we need to get down to business. Now we need to decide who's going to be our class representatives we need one male and one female. Are there any volunteers?" The teacher waited patiently for someone to raise their hands, "C'mon the faster we do this the faster we can move on."

"I nominate Ling Xiaoyu," Lili raised her hand proudly.

"W-wait a minute I don-" before I could finish my protest the teacher already wrote my name on the board. "Anybody else want to run for the spot?" the teacher asked. None of the other girls raised their hand meaning I was stuck being class representative. "Okay Xiaoyu you're are female representative. Now we need a male volunteer." All of the boys tried to avoid eye contact with the teacher. It was silent for what seemed like eternity until someone raised their hand to volunteer, "I'll do it."

All eyes turned to the only person with his hand in the air, Jin Kazama. "I'll volunteer for class representative."

The teacher wrote Jin's name on the board, "Anybody want to run? Going once... twice... alright Xiaoyu and Jin are our new class representatives. Come to the teacher's office after class."

Going to school has become pretty mundane. I spend much of my time hanging around Lili, Jin, and Hwoarang. Things have been pretty ordinary except for one tiny detail. Occasionally Jin comes down with these terrible headaches and dizzy spells. So much so that's he's spent much time a lot of his time in the nurse's office. Like today Jin is missing third period while in the nursing office. "Xiaoyu," the teacher called. "During the break can you go check on Jin, this is the second time he's gone to the nurse's office this week." I nodded my head yes in confirmation and waited patiently for the end of class.

When I got the nurse's office Jin was behind the thin curtain sleeping on the twin sized bed provided in the room. I pulled it back to get a better look him. "Jin," I whispered trying not to be to loud. "Jin are you awake?" Still no response. I placed my hand gently on his forehead to check if he had a fever. He didn't feel warm, and his face isn't discolored, I wonder what's wrong with him...?

"What are you doing?" Jin's hand came up and lightly gripped my wrist. He sat up craddling his head and pushing the blanket off of him. "How long have I been asleep?"

"For about an hour now, the teacher asked me to come check on you... are you feeling any better?"

"Yea, a lot better than I did earlier."

"Are you sure you're feeling okay? You've been acting like this for a couple days."

Jin's face became gloomy as he thought to himself for a moment, "yea, I'm fine."

"Well come on class is starting soon. Lili and Hwoarang have been worried about you. They'd be glad to see you feeling bett- JIN!" Jin was crouching on the ground clutching his head with both arms. "Jin, ah hold on a minute." I ran out the office down the hall to find the nurse, "Nurse, nurse there's something wrong with Jin."

Once I found the nurse I followed her back in to the office to aid Jin one again. "Thanks Xiaoyu, I'll take it from here. Just go on back to class."

After the second week of school, Jin and I actually have to start up our responsibilities as class representatives. We had to stay behind after all the students left to make sure the classrooms were clean for the next day and also fill our specific paperwork for the teachers. Even though we were both supposed to split the work I think I'm the only one doing any of the work, "You could help with filling out these forms ya'know," I complained while shuffling through the stack of paperwork the teacher left us.

"It looks like you've got it." Jin yawned out his answer. He sat directly across from me playing on his cellphone. Not once did he even look up to see if I needed any help with all this work, he's so pretentious. "Are you almost done yet?"

"I would be if you helped out a little… who are you texting anyway?"

Jin flashed me a quick smirk before putting his phone away, "No one." He grabbed the remaining paper work from and began sorting them out. I was a little concerned about Jin, although he hasn't been going to the nurse he's still been looking under the weather.

"Are you feeling any better?"

"Yea, I told you it's nothing to to worry about." Jin continued to work without looking at me.

"Hey Jin can I ask you something else?"

"..." I took Jin's silence as confirmation.

"How come you're not in the advanced classes anymore?"
Jin let out a deep sigh,"I didn't feel like doing the work anymore."

"So you're just lazy then."

He gave me a little laugh, "Yeah I guess so." After about five more minutes Jin started to stack the papers together, "Alright I'm finished. See that didn't take so long. There must be something wrong with you."

I shot Jin a quick glare and decided not to comment on his last statement. Jin knew just how to get underneath my skin without even trying. Sometimes I don't know why I even bother talking to him.

"Are you ready?" Jin packed all the paper together and set it on the teacher's desk ready to be sorted for tomorrow. "Yeah…"

"Hey Xiaoyu!" Lili called from the school gate. She was standing next to Hwoarang who was also playing on his cellphone.

"What are you guys doing out here?" I asked walking up to them.

"WE were waiting for you guys. I need someone to go shopping with me and Hwoarang was waiting for Jin."

"Are they coming with us?"

"Nope, we've got plans of our own." Hwoarang interrupted.

"Where?"

"Not telling." Jin stated before walking away from us. Hwoarang gave us a small wave before running off to catch up with Jin.
