Will was on the way to his first class, Social Studies, when his books slipped and papers started flying everywhere. Will swore as he started to gather his stuff and put the papers into his binder. He swore again as he heard the final bell and attempted to hurry. But this caused himself to slip and he was in an even bigger mess. The halls were just about empty as students were rushing to their classes when a short (but still slightly taller than Will) round, blond haired girl rushed up to him and said, "Here, let me help you."
They began gathering all the papers together and stuffing them into Will's binder. Will smiled and said, "Thanks."
"Are you new?"
"Uh, yeah, just moved here."
"Sweet, my name's Jenny."
"I'm Will."
"Nice to meet you, Will."
"Likewise. Aren't you going to be late for class?"
"Yes, but Mr. Brookes is a very understanding person. What's your first class."
"Social Studies."
Jenny's face seemed to light up even more. "So is mine! Come on, we'd better get going."
After going up a few stairs and down a few halls, they finally made it to the right classroom. Jenny walked in with Will on her heels.
The teacher, an older fellow with brown graying hair turned and said, "Jennifer, you're late."
"Yes, sir, but this student is new and needed some help, so I helped him because we're supposed to help new students then I brought him here," Jenny said, not even pausing to take a breath.
"Ah, you must be Will." Mr. Brookes turned to Will.
"That's me," Will said.
"Go ahead and take a seat."
The last two spots were on the opposite sides of the classroom, so Jenny went to the left and Will went to the right. He noticed that he would be sitting next to a tall, slender girl who was wearing dress pants, a blouse, and had her hair tied back in a bun. A bit fancy for a school outfit, Will thought and put on his "bad boy swag" and sat in his spot, being sure to slouch, which was a contrast to the girl's perfect posture.
The girl turned to him and said, "I'm Alyss."
"I'm Will," he said, then Alyss faced the teacher and took notes on the lesson. Of course, Will didn't take notes, and decided to twirl his pen in his hand uselessly, as he did in the rest of his classes.
Will walked back to his new home after school was over, and noticed that both Halt and Pauline's vehicles were in the parking lot. The first thing Will smelled when he walked in was coffee, then he heard luggage being dragged down the stairs and Pauline saying, "Now are you sure you have everything?"
"Yes, Pauline," Halt said impatiently.
"But Will just got here yesterday."
Are they seriously kicking me out already? Will thought.
"I have no choice, Pauline, I have to go to Gallica and that's that."
Guess not, Will realized.
Will walked into the living room where Halt and Pauline were. "Hello, Will, how was school?" Pauline asked.
Will shrugged. "I survived."
"Well today was your first day, tomorrow will be better."
Will ignored Pauline's statement and turned to Halt. "Goin' somewhere?"
"I'm going to Gallica on a business trip, I'll be back tomorrow by two. Although, I distinctly remember my boss Crowley saying that next time someone else would go. But he decided to make me go, I swear he enjoys annoying the hell out of me."
"I'd just quit."
Halt looked me in the eye. "You can't quit the second someone pisses you off. Anyway," he turned to Pauline, giving her a quick kiss. "I'll see you two tomorrow."
"Goodbye, Halt," Pauline said.
"Later," Will said and Halt dragged his suitcase out the door.
