A/N: This is officially the last chapter of this story. If it seems rushed that is because it is and for that I am extremely sorry but like I said I am trying to wrap up all of my LA stories and branch out into other fandoms until I can find the inspiration to write for these amazing characters again. And I intentionally left the story open-ended leaving what happens to Cara up to your guys imagination
Everything has Changed
Chapter 17
Cara's P.O.V
Three days. Three days of continually in my wolf skin was beginning to eat away at my human traits, slowly but surely I felt every good thing that I ever possess slowly dying…everything was tainted…my thoughts are darkening…I can smell the evil seeping from my large body.
On the morning of my third day I found my wolf leading me to my small ranch outside of Los Angeles. While Kensi had people out all over looking for me she failed to leave a guard to watch the house for my return. I laid my large body flat on the ground as I scouted the house…waiting…for what I did not know…that is when I smelled them; Kensi and her team mates…and Deeks….
Alex died protecting him…I watched them all pile outside, coffees in hands and breakfast pasties no doubt made by Kayla….I shook my head, covered by the morning shade kept my black fur from being noticed.
My thoughts were warring…. I wanted to go to my sister and hug her, tell her I love her….but a larger part wanted to tear into the reason my love is now dead, murdered by a man brought into my family's life because of my sister….a sister who was too weak to go through the change on time….
….she is weak, inexperienced…. I am powerful….i could take her….
And I have every right…I am the Alpha….
No she is my sister…I swore to always protect her…
My muscles were tensed beyond comfort…I was ready to pounce….
My vision was red, the anger…. The darkness…my predator eyes landed on Deeks….
I can't stop it…. I need revenge… why am I so angry…
For the love of Olympus….forgive me….
With no other thought than the fading darkness…I lunged with roar….
Kayla's P.O.V
After sending Kensi and her human friends outside to enjoy the warm morning I cleaned up the kitchen, feeding Cara's generals and Kensi's newly born wolf was a lot of work. And that's not to say that those humans couldn't pack away some for as well.
When I finished my task I found myself in Cara and Alex's bedroom, the smell of my son and his wife overwhelming. My aging eyes found a small photo on the couple's dresser. They were on the beach, embracing with the sun casting them in a shadow. The two of them bred such happiness that it was hard to remember that we were at war sometimes. On the days the two of them actually slowed down for the day, delegating their responsibilities were the days that I say the couple act like teenagers, and really they were just giant kids in my eyes, pulling pranks, cracking jokes...anything honestly to keep moral high amongst the masses.
There was darkness coming, I could feel it in my aging bones, a darkness unlike anything that we have encountered. And Cara was going to be the epicenter.
That is when I heard it, the deafening roar, a roar I knew well...the roar of an Alpha. I bolted up and ran to the front of the house and what I saw, was indescribable, and downright frightening.
And I knew, by just looking at Cara, I could tell that in the three and a half days that we had been searching for her Alpha Cara had not once changed from her wolf form. And with the power of her wolf that would mean that she was slowly losing her humanity, constantly at war with herself with the primal, animalistic side of her growing stronger everyday...
And right then and there I saw something I hoped never to witness...Alpha Cara with her sights set on Deeks, who was still nursing his injured leg, teeth bared and old blood coating her black coat. And Kensi, poor sweet newborn Kensi still on her two legs standing between them, her arms desperately outstretched to stall her ramming sister. Words streaming from her mouth as she tried to placate her sisters rage.
But her words were falling on deaf ears, for all intents and purposes Cara Blye no longer existed in that very moment, what was before us was a grieving animal with the capacity to think like a human...she was a vessel and the animal side of her was using it to its fullest extent...with one goal in mind.
Revenge... and Deeks was the target.
Kensi's P.O.V
It was officially the start of day three that I had the generals and the trackers out looking for Cara all over the west coast. Nothing was coming up, she was no where to be found, I even thought about branching out to the rest of the country but I figured she would stay close for she was in morning and bound to come back to Los Angeles.
This morning, as the first rays of sunlight warmed the front porch the team and myself all piled outside to enjoy the weather a bit before things no doubt got hectic. As I listened to Callen and Sam banter I felt uneasy...something was watching us. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end and the wolf inside stirred but she was still sluggish after being in basically a coma for almost three decades.
"Kensi what's wrong?" Deeks asked catching everybody's attention. I minutely shook my head, my eyes planted on the underbrush beneath a clump of large trees that were to the side of the house.
"She is here..." I whispered just before Cara's resounding roar pierced the stillness and her large black mass leaped from beneath the shade.
Without thinking I lunged off the porch and planted myself between the wolf and my team, knowing that her target would be Deeks. "Cara! Stop!"
The wolf halted but kept steadily growling its disdain. I tried saying her name over and over again but my words were not registering. And that is when I knew...
For the moment the woman I knew as my sister was gone, and in her place was a pissed off, wild dangerous creature who, at the turn of a dime, would not hesitate to take my head clean off to get to her intended target... my mate.
Move. My hands left their bracing positioning and shot to my ears...
"Cara, is that you?" I whisper.
Move!
The roaring in my ear caused me to double over but still I kept my eyes on the nearly black ones of my sister. "Cara you have to fight this," I said quietly, my voice trembling. "you have to fight the darkness..." More growling. "Please Cara."
The feral wolf took a step closer then and I felt my own react to the threat. She pushed her way out, tearing at my bones causing me to scream. It was no longer than a second of distraction that Cara needed before she lunged over me, barreling straight for the house. With so regards to my sister I latched my strong jaws onto her hind leg causing her to fall to her chest.
Bad idea...
She was more experienced, larger and downright lethal in her wolf skin... I was a newbie. She whirled around and latched onto the back of my neck, causing I great whine to escape.
I was not used to this body, I was clumsy in trying to escape her stronger jaws, only causing more damage to my torn muscles.
Cara please...it's Kensi...
Weak...you are weak. Cara's jaw spasmed, clenching down harder. It was then that I felt the magic, the dark magic seep from her very being, latching onto my mind, images from the pass few days raced through my head, and the word weak constantly repeating. When the image of Alex's death flashed I heard the words again.
You are not weak Cara... I am sorry that we couldn't save him, honestly. But killing Deeks will not bring him back...please Cara you are hurting me...
It is because of you he is dead, YOU called me! With a great pull Cara lifted me from my position and launched me into the air crashing down with immense force.
I could faintly hear yells from the direction of the house, but the pain was so immense I could barely hear them, it was like I was underwater. I could feel blood gathering under me, the back of my neck was torn open and the stench of black magic filled my sensitive nose.
And it was at this very moment that Kayla's story hit me full force with its consequences. Cara was inhuman, she was something this world had never seen before and that...well that was dangerous, threatening.
With great effort I pulled myself up onto all four legs, but my head remained low; non-threatening and well...well because I wouldn't really lift my head very high. Even with her loose grip on humanity this wolf that towered above me was still Alpha, that thought would alwayss run through her veins, she would always retain that singular thought because she knew just how lethal she was.
Cara, please you have to fight this. If you kill me...you will never recover. I am your sister Cara. I pleaded. I had no idea how I was supposed to get through to her when I wasn't even sure who I was taking too; my sister...or a wild new animal.
A deep threatening growl rumbled across the landscape, so deep and primal that birds left their perch, squawking, the horses in the paddocks headed for the trees. Do not try to reason with me half-ling. I... Another growl...shit, Kensi? You have to...
Cara, what is happening? Cara!
Sam's P.O.V
Silence..that was all that was heard after Kensi was tossed like a rag doll through the air. Cara's footfalls silent on the wet morning dew until she stood threateningly over her near identical sister. Kensi lifted her head as much as she could with the back of her neck torn open, and connected their eyes...it was almost like they were talking...the silence, deafening.
Until a deep, rumbling growl emitting from Cara sent any and all animals fleeing the scene. Kensi whimpered...Cara's massive bulk twitched as if in pain.
Using the distraction Kensi with a pitiful whine lashed her front paw at her sister's face causing her to stumble backwards. Cara stood up...and she was wholly pissed off. "Kensi!" Deeks yelled trying to stand before I woke up from the scene before me and locked my arms around his midsection.
"You will get yourself killed Deeks, Kensi is the only thing between you and Cara... she will be alright."
"She doesn't stand a chance Sam, look at her neck, her sister is killing her," he whispered, but his body went slack, knowing that there was nothing he could do in this situation, we have no way to ever combat such a massive force of nature that Alpha Cara was.
As Cara recovered she turned to Kensi, her eyes pitch black, anything that Cara had managed to hold on too was overshadowed by the magic that even I could see seeping out of the creature. Just as Cara was about to lunge I heard a pop.
An insignificant sound, really but changed the course of events.
Where Kensi would have died by her sister's jaw, a large needle with a white feather attached to it plunged into Cara's bloody shoulder, just shy of her neck. Following the projectiles path my eyes found Kayla, Alex's mother standing there with a rifle in her hands, tears streaming down her face.
It took seconds for whatever concoction was in the vile to start to affect the massive wolf. We watched as she snarled trying to use her massive jaws to pry it from her shoulder but it position made that impossible. When she realized this she turned to Kayla, taking in her crying face as she stumbled closer to her mate's mother, soft whimpers sounded as Cara's eyes cleared and her blue eye became visible once again.
Kensi, now back to two legs rushed to her sister's side, the back of her neck slowly but surely healing, blood still pouring down her back, but she seemed to ignore all of that. "Kayla! What did you put in that vile!" She demanded as she reached her now laying sister.
"Wolf's bane and ambrosia young one. She will sleep and heal al at once." She answered as we made our way cautiously towards the still unpredictable creature. Standing within arms reach of her truly put her size into perspective. Even with her thick layer of fur you could see every cord of muscle that tensed with every breath and spasm of pain with each whimper.
"Will she be okay? Or will she still be..." I pause looking to Kensi, but her eyes were trained on Cara's slowly closing eyes. "Will she still be feral?"
Feral...the closest word I could think of to describe the scene that I just witnessed.
"It is hard to tell, if she will immediately revert back or if she will break out of whatever hold the dark magic has on her." Kayla said as she propped the tranq gun against the porch, her shoulders heavy with the burden of what she just did, and no doubt what is to come. Just to be safe we will have to lock her in one of the holding cells she had designed for cases such as these, unfortunately..." She trailed off, her eyes slightly fearful.
"What?" Callen asked as he crossed his arms, his eyes still glued to the female agent.
"I am not sure that the cells would be able to hold her if she reverts back again. She is powerful without magic but that magic you saw seeping out of her...that makes her something new, never before seen in any world I have been apart of...Olympus wouldn't even know what to classify her as. She could very well be the birth of a new age for Werewolves." Kayla's voice was grim and sad. "Kensi, we must move her to the cells." She said as she pulled a syringe from her pocket, a slight thing but filled with a black liquid.
Kensi merely nodded and held out her hand taking the syringe. Pushing back some of the fur she gently rubbed her thumb over the now exposed skin of the wolf before roughly plunging the needle into her skin and decompressing the plunger. In seconds the wolf before us melted into the bare form of Cara Blye. Before looking away quickly I saw just how many cuts and scrapes there were covering her slowly healing body, no doubt those would not even leave scars behind.
Callen, running back into the house came back seconds later with a blanket and blindly handed it to Kensi who wrapped her up and gently picked up her sleeping form.
She looked to Deeks with sad, tearful eyes begging him to follow for support. As Kayla led them to their destination Callen and I stayed behind watching them go.
Kayla with her head downcast but confident in her direction of travel.
Deeks with his slight limp and his gentle guiding hand on the small of Kensi's back.
And Kensi, with the world's most dangerous creature cradled in her arms protectively and she buried her nose in her hair no doubt whispering soft words that everything will be okay or at the very least get better.
Looking over to Callen I see him watching them walk away. "What do you think is going to happen, Sam?"
Looking back to the retreating figures I simply shrug my shoulders. "I have no idea, but I do know that everything we thought we knew about this world is forever changed." My voice was tight with fear of the unknown.
"Are you alright with that?"
"If it wasn't Kensi and for all of what we have seen in the last week, I would say they were certifiably insane. But now...well work is definitely going to be interesting from now on."
As the four beings disappeared in the line of trees to their unknown destination I heard Callen laugh. "Yea with Kensi's nose, tracking down criminals will be a walk in the park."
I couldn't stop the chuckle that escaped as I listen to the surrounding wildlife seem to come back to life.
