Chapter 7
Melody
That's how Bucky found us the next morning. Steve was sitting up with his hand in my hair while I was lied out on the couch with my head in Steve's lap.
"Wake up my dear best friend and sister!" My brother yelled over the banging of a spoon hitting a pan. Both of us on the couch jumped up and I yelped as my hair was yanked by Steve's gigantic hand in my hair accidentally pulling on it.
I glared at my brother as Steve and I got untangled and I jumped up ready to attack said brother who looked like he was going to crap his pants. It was actually fairly funny.
"Don't." Steve said as he grabbed me from behind to stop me from hurting my brother.
"Fine, I'm going to get dressed." I said while walking away towards my room. I heard Steve sigh after me and slap my brother upside the head and laughed silently as I heard my brother shout, 'OW'.
I got dressed quickly in a Bright blue dress with black five inch heels. I walked out and heard the chorus of, "Go change," from Steve and Bucky. I rolled my eyes and sat next to Steve at the table before grabbing the paper out of his hands and opening it. The first thing I saw was the picture of Steve and me at the park on his motorcycle with me kissing his cheek and the caption of, 'THE AMERICA'S DATING? IS A WEDDING COMING?'
I groaned and dropped my head on the table before Steve brought it up by putting his hand under my chin.
"Don't think any of it. Just let them think what they want to." I nodded and got up from the chair and went to get an apple. I took a bite and went to sit on the couch.
"Don't forget that you have to go train with Natasha today." I reminded my brother and he groaned remembering yesterday. I smiled and grabbed a book on the end table before opening it.
"Why are your time's people so boring?" Tony asked coming in.
"You do realize that your father was from our time, right?" I flinched when Steve mentioned Howard. "Sorry, Mel."
"It's alright. I just miss him."
"You really loved him?" Tony asked as he sat down in a chair. I sighed and closed my book before looking at the man who questioned me.
"Love doesn't just go away, Tony. Steve was the first guy I loved because I grew up with him. I grew up loving him like a brother. I fell in love with your father because he was smart and kind. Believe it or not, he did love other people besides himself."
"He spent the rest of his life searching for you two. Even though he got married to my mom, he always told me he would love you." Tony said smiling slightly.
"That's another reason I fell for him, he was loyal. He only fake dated super models and other girls for reputation, but I was always the one he went to when he needed something like, me to look over records or help him in the lab. Every time I would go down to his lab he'd be under a desk and he'd hit his head coming up when I scared him. Over time I fell in love with him like Steve did with Peggy." I confessed and my brother and Steve looked shocked.
"Well, I'm done with sappy moment stuff. Goodbye." Tony stated and walked out of the door. I shook my head and got up before going into my room and changing into a Navy blue Sports Bra with a pair of Black running shorts with a pair of Tennis Shoes. I walked out of the room and filled up a water bottle and walked towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Bucky asked as he stepped in front of me, blocking me from walking out of the door.
"Going down to the gym to get some of my anger out before I hit you." I said calmly.
"Alright. Go get some anger out." My older brother said as he moved out of my way and I walked out and ran down the stairs and walked into the gym.
I pulled a punching bag out and hooked it up along with five others and plugged in the treadmill along with setting up some weights and a pull-up bar.
I started with the punching bags. Within five punches, the first was down. I moved on until all of them were down and was pouring out sand. I then moved onto the treadmill and ran full speed for about an hour. I took a break and drank the entire water bottle I brought with me within a few gulps. I then hit the weights. I was going to prove to everyone that I'm not a little girl that needs protecting. I accidentally put more with than I needed on the bar and now I couldn't get it up.
"Melody," I heard Steve exclaim before the weight was lifted off of me and Steve had me in his arms. "What were you thinking, putting that much weight on your body?!"
"Steve?" I asked a little confused.
"I'm here. I'm here." He said softly before pulling me back and kissing my sweaty forehead before pulling me back into his arms. "You can't just do that, you know your strength, Mel. I can't, I can't lose you too. I've nearly lost you once and I can't lose you." His voice cracked and I squeezed his torso quickly.
"You're not going to lose me. I'm a big girl Steve. I can take care of myself." I said quietly to him and pulled back from the hug and looked him in the eye. "I thought I lost you so many times when we were defeating Hydra. I'm not losing you and you're not losing me. I promise."
"No more lifting weights." He looked me in the eye and I nodded. "Promise me?"
"I promise." I looked him in the eyes and he sighed and pulled up against his body again.
Page Break
"Ugh! Why did you make me have to train with Romanoff?!" Bucky groaned while he held a bag of Ice to his forehead at the table while I was cooking dinner, which consisted of grilled chicken, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas. "She's even worse than you, Melody!"
"Suck it up, bub. You'll get used to it soon, I promise." I put the peas and potatoes on the table and while he tried to stick his finger in the mashed goodness, I slapped his hand. "Go wash your hands and tell Steve that dinner is ready." My older brother by a year nodded and left to go find the other super solider. "Men," I whispered, shaking my head smiling and set the table while getting the rest of the food quickly and getting all of us drinks. Steve and I water, and Bucky coke. He loves the newer stuff, why? I don't know. He's strange. I shook my head again and checked my SHEILD phone for any updates on anything and found none.
YAY! No work! Fun…
A few minutes later, the two idiots came in through the door and I raised an eyebrow at them once I realized Bucky was in a headlock with Steve holding him and both smiling as the blonde gave the brunette a noogie.
"Do I even want to know?" I asked after taking a picture. Both looked up in surprise and Steve immediately let go of my brother and came over to me. He pecked me on the lips once and I hummed before grabbing my brother and pulling him up. "Now! The two of you, go wash your hands before I hit you both." They ran into the kitchen while pushing each other out of the way. I smiled again while shaking my head and sat at the table. Once the two were done, they sat at their places at the table and began to eat.
"So, Buck, how was training?" Steve asked as he cut up his chicken into smaller pieces.
"Romanoff is worse than, Melody!" Bucky groaned and stuffed a forkful of mashed potatoes into his mouth, "And damn these are good!"
"Don't talk with your mouth full." I scolded lightly and my brother looked down for a few seconds before bighting up again and telling the story of his day.
Right at that moment, it felt like we were back in our time, in our old apartment when Steve had come to live with us. Sharing stories of out days and the boys joking around while I scolded Bucky on something. It felt normal to say at least.
