CHAPTER FOUR

VISITING MAY

...

The Dark sorceress couldn't quite place her finger on it, but there was just something about Peter's Aunt May that she liked. Morgan Le Fay had never liked old people for various reasons, yet she was one of the few she'd made an exception for. The woman was just so kind and far wiser than she let on. It was easy to how Peter turned out the way he had.

Currently she and Peter were visiting the elderly woman at his childhood home and spending the night. It had been quite the affair filled with food, laughter and hilarious story from the hero's younger days. Peter of course blushed when his aunt told those tales and grew emotional whenever her late husband was mentioned. Ben Parker was gone but not forgotten.

The night of fun ended with dinner and with May attending to the dishes. Peter of course offered to help but she politely turned him down opting to do them herself. He knew it was pointless to argue so he left the older woman to her kitchen and headed upstairs to his old room with Morgan. It always felt nostalgic being back within the four walls of his childhood.

The two just talked for a while before changing their clothes and getting ready for bed. Peter still had a few he purposely left behind and Morgan had her magic. The pair snuggled up close before drifting off into blissful sleep, with dark mage awaking first in the dead of night. It was too dark to see but she could still feel her boyfriend's arm draped around her.

As much as she enjoyed his company and comfort she needed to get up. Her throat was as dry as the waists and demanded water. Reluctantly she removed Peter's arm from her person and sat up. Looking towards the nightstand revealed that it was two forty-five in the morning. It had been quite some time since she'd woken up so early. She stretched for a moment before finally sliding out of bed.

As she made her way downstairs towards the kitchen, she saw that the living room lamp was on, and that Peter's aunt was seated at the kitchen table with a large ringed book. The older woman's eyes appeared to be red and puffy as well and there were tear tracks staining her cheeks. Clearly, she'd been crying. But what about? "May?"

Hearing her name gave the elder a start and she quickly whipped her head around to find the source. Standing in the entryway to the kitchen was none other than Morgan dressed in a green nightgown with what appeared to be a look of concern on her face. May wiped her eyes as fast as she could. "Morgan... you gave me quite the start. What are you doing up so early?"

"Just looking to get some water." she answered as she moved into the kitchen. "Why are you up so early? And crying?"

She pulled up a chair at the table across from May as the elder Parker sighed. She gestured towards the black book she had been looking through to reveal that it was an old photo album. "I couldn't sleep so I just decided to take a trip down memory lane is all."

May spun the album so the images would be righted for the sorceress. So many moments in time forever captured by camera. One image that stuck out on the left-hand side was an old, faded picture of a younger couple that Morgan instantly recognized as May and Ben. They looked so different back then.

"That was Ben and I a few weeks after we got married." May reminisced. She could still remember that day and how Ben had taken he and her out horse riding.

Morgan nodded before turning her attention to the right and seeing a photo of a small boy with glasses playing with a chemistry set. No doubt that was Peter. That knowledge earned a small giggle from her. He looked so small and cute.

"That was taken after Ben, and I got Peter his first chemistry set. He used to spend hours in the basement with it mixing chemicals and creating green sludge." May smiled. She was so happy he loved his gift but slightly annoyed when she found the walls and boxes covered in slime.

Morgan smiled as well as she flipped to the next page. From what she could tell the pictures weren't in any kind of order. The one that stuck out the most was an image of Peter during his high school years with a blonde girl who she'd seen a picture of back at their apartment. Peter said her name was Gwen Stacey.

May frowned. "That was taken a little before Peter's high school graduation. It's still hard to believe she's gone sometimes."

Peter didn't go into too much detail, but the dark sorceress knew that she was killed in a battle between he and the Green Goblin. It was too painful to talk about and when she had asked for more, he'd simply said he wasn't fast enough.

The image to the right was of Peter dressed in his graduation gown next to a brown-haired boy and an older man who was no doubt his father. That must've been Harry and Norman Osborn. Peter's feelings towards them were a bit messy to say the least.

May saw where her eyes were focused and spoke. "That's Peter and his best friend Harry at their high school graduation. The man behind them his was Harry's father Norman. Harry never was the same after his father died and he and Peter fell out of touch after a while."

Peter didn't talk about Harry much and when he did there was a fondness there but also a great sadness. Norman on the other hand, there was sadness there, but it was also mixed in with hate.

Morgan decided to look at one more page, this time on said page was an image of a smiling Peter next to an equally smiley redhead named Mary-Jane Watson. The former villainess knew the pair used to date were even engaged at one point before Peter broke things off. Too many times his life as Spider-Man almost got her killed so for her sake he distanced himself.

May looked so tired now. "I worry about Peter a lot you know. He's been through so much and even more that he doesn't tell me. He thinks I don't know but I could see it plain as day. Ben, Gwen, Harry, Mary-Jane... he's lost so many people. I won't be around forever, and I just want to that after I'm gone that he'll be okay."

Morgan frowned but understood where May was coming from. She was no stranger death; she'd been surrounded by it her whole life. Everyone died, it was just a matter of how and when. All May Parker wanted was to make sure her nephew, her son, wouldn't be alone when she was gone. She just wanted the world to cut him a break and let him be happy.

She then felt the older woman's hand on top of hers. Green eyes met blue eyes and the elder asked, "Will you watch out for him?"

Morgan pursed her lips and nodded. "I will. You have my word."

The brunette could see it both in May's eyes and posture, relief. Oh, sweet relief. "Thank you."

"You don't have to thank me." Morgan smiled.

"I don't have to, but I want to." May insisted. "Thank you."

Like Peter, Morgan knew it was no use arguing. "Very well, I accept your thanks."

May giggled. "As if you had a choice."
